I think given that the costs are similar, if you really want to be sure, you should go for the GPS option. Luggage becomes completely untraceable more often than you imagine. Two weeks ago Lufthansa lost my suitcase in Frankfurt and it is completely untraceable now. I wish I had put one of these Trackis in the suitcase so that I at least knew where it was. They will eventually reimburse me for the contents, but the hassle is nontrivial.

Ugh sorry to hear about your luggage. It definitely provided me with a lot of reassurance and I plan on using the Tracki again and possibly whenever I travel!

Subscription costs mean that the differential in price is actually a lot. If you fly all the time it may just be worth it.

They are selling lost luggage in Heathrow Airport, so first it is common that they lose them and second if you know where it is they can not deny locating it for you. I wonder how long will the device send the signal.

We have the smart tag which uses Bluetooth and our bag ended up in Minnesota instead of with us in Miami and I was able to see exactly where it was at without GPS. The technology at pink with every Galaxy nearby and uses other people's phones for location

The tile also relies on lots being in circulation. I was able to find mine in a different country because other Tile users were nearby mine.

I don't know about Air Tag but Tile doesn't "rely" upon other users. Tile Network is just a nodal network that uses the user community to allow users to find Tiles beyond the range of BLE. I love the idea and how reciprocity is baked into it: every time you're using the Tile app with Bluetooth enabled, you're scanning for other Tiles and passing that data onto Tile which may help someone else find their lost item. Passive mitzvah doing you could say!

@@DanielSRosehill That's exactly what he said, you cannot track a Tile beyond bluetooth range (so almost every example of lost luggage) without another Tile user passing within range of your lost bag and Tile, so it absolutely relies upon other users, if your luggage has gone to Cambodia and nobody is using Tiles in Cambodia then your likely never going to find it as the only other Tile users are likely to be tourists, who won't be within range of a local Cambodian storage warehouse or the luggage processing rooms in the airport. Airtags are exactly the same only they can ping of ANY iphone and iphones are all over the world so it'll always be found, both 'rely' on either Tile app users or iphone users.

Great video! I went with picking up a 4 pack of tile for my upcoming trip to se asia. I assume there won't be many tile users there but for the price why not try it. I like the tracki one but I have a feeling ill end up paying $50 a month for data because Canada (only kinda joking) Iol

Lufthansa is one of the airlines that does not let you put trackers in your suitcase. They say it is a safety

thanks alot for the video, i have a question if i may im planning on a big trip around the world, and i have 2 concerns about losing mu laggage: 1. after a flight, track my laggage if its got on another plain or someone else took my case by mistake. 2. after i reach my hostel, im afraid some will steal it for problem 1 : i think tracki will be best and not tile cause i dont know if i will have phone near by especially if its in another country for problem 2 : i need to set alerts that will pop on my phone once the my bag i moving, and i know tracki has taht but im not sure if the tile has those king of things too s, what do u recommend ? thanks alot oren

Shalom! I don't think it makes a big difference. Tracki has GPS so is more "reliable." Tile depends on other Tiles being in the vicinity to report back its location. But in an airport with many people using the device, that is almost certainly not a problem. 1 - Very unlikely but I think either will help. 2 - Look up geofencing. I believe Tracki has it. You could create a geofence around the hostel (say a 100m radius to allow for changes in positioning) and then configure an alarm/alert if the bag is stolen. נסיעות טובות!

Is it legal to use a gps tracker in luggage in flights ss it has a inbuilt battery. And airlines dont allow to put any batteries or devices with battet5in it in check-in baggage. What was your experience. Did they allow? Please make a follow-up video of your experience. Thanks
@DanielSRosehill
@DanielSRosehill 11 месяцев назад
As far as I know and for most airlines yes. Think about all the things you'd put in checked luggage without thinking about it (electric toothbrushes, electric shavers) which have built in batteries. As far as I know (and because I usually travel with video gear I have to be careful about this) it's external batteries that always need to go in carry on. But I could be wrong and worth double checking with your airline(s).

How is it possible for you to carry your mobile phone inside the cabin with a way bigger battery built in?

Is this the service you sign up with ? www.tmlt.co.uk/lost-your-bag/ If so looks like a completely different system than consumer-based smartphone tracking (and a lot more expensive!)

I have very little faith in the airline actually knowing where my luggage is. If they knew, it wouldn't be lost in the first place. I don't travel much but i do take some expensive items with me on occasion. I want the piece of mind that comes with being able to get a gps location- I'll pay $20 for a month of coverage even if I'm just taking a weekend trip.
@DanielSRosehill

I agree! I do Tracki and Tile on the assumption that one might not work. I don't travel hugely frequently but tend to travel with camera gear. So I figure similarly that it's worth the piece of mind.

Think I'll get myself a tile to use with Android. They are so cheap, its worth it just to play with it.
