Luigi Alva is simply perfect. When you look at the vocal score to this aria, your approach would be more like 'how to get as close as possible to what Rossini meant', because it seems impossible to execute it. But Alva sings clearly and perfectly every single note, adding inflection, dynamics, bright, warmth, amazing agility and grace, not to mention the perfect dramatic interpretation, that brings nothing but a passionate joy. Just amazing. No one's got even close. And I believe nobody will.

OMG, he takes my breath away... the voice, the legato, the diction, the tone, the phrasing, the agility. To hear Alva is to understand the meaning of Bel Canto. Just listening to him, the meaning of words of the Lampertis, which have long confused me, begin to become clear.

He visto la mayoría de vídeos de esta aria en otros tenores, y pues no cabe duda que esta es la más sublime, dada al gusto por su técnica y fraseo. Además que está más ligado a la composición original. Este es un ejemplo de trabajo vocal y talento innato. Tremendo tenor y con orgullo personal lo manifiesto por ser su compatriota!

Thank you very much for uploading this. My singing coach used to use him as an exemplar - I'm a tenor she was a mezzo. She used to describe singing with him in an opera and when he sang an aria the stage wings were thronged with the cast just wanting to hear the great man sing.

Florez is a very good tenor but lacks the elegance, grace, and style of Alva. I wonder if we will EVER see that quality again? Unhappily I don't think so.
