The RNG in the first secret room was horrible. But good thing this didn't happen in the other secret room. Good work, I used your playthrough as a guide for my perfect score walkthrough.
1:36:32 anybody notice how luigi's whistling slows down a bit to match the pace of the music as he ascends? I guess it has to do with how the humming/whistling/ghosts growling is programmed to always be exactly in time with the rest of the music
luckily the big thing for these runs is missing a bill or a coin and that is on screen at all times so he/she would notice if he was missing money. For gems there's only 10 of each regular gems 5 silver diamonds 2 red diamonds and 2 gold diamonds so that's very easy to internally remember all those locations. For pearls they just need 4 small 4 medium and 1 large pearl for fight which you always get if you gold rank a non-area boss. So in reality none of that is hard to track. The coins and bills are much harder to track cause theres over 1000 of each but since the counters for those are almost always on screen theres no way you can go into the final boss fight not realizing you missed that on this run
100% and Max% are 2 different things. 100% requires just Rank A, Gold Portraits and all Boos. Max% is collecting every single piece of treasure, right down to bills and coins.
for whatever reason all the speedruns of the game are always done on the japanese version of this game... is there something different from the japanese game that makes people pick it to do a speedrun on vs the ntsc and PAL version?
In short, the requirements are: 1) Rescue all four Toads (Just reassure them when you talk to them in the Foyer, the 2F Balcony, the 1F Washroom, and the Courtyard), 2) Earn a Gold Portrait of all four boss Portrait Ghosts (Defeat Chauncey, Bogmire, Boolossus, and King Boo with at least 90 health remaining), 3) Finish the game with all 142,390,000 G. The final requirement requires that: 3a) You earn a Gold Portrait on all of the non-boss Portrait Ghosts (You need to suck up 90 health in one go to earn a Large Pear. The maximum money you can obtain from each non-boss Portrait Ghost is 1,600,000 G, which involves you collecting 4 Small Pearls, 4 Medium Pearls, and 1 Large Pearl for each of the 19 non-boss Portrait Ghosts), 3b) You catch all 50 Boos (Earns you a Gold Diamond, worth 20,000,000 G), 3c) You water the plant in the Boneyard before fighting Bogmire, after fighting Bogmire but before fighting Boolossus, and after fighting Boolossus (Earns you a Gold Diamond and a ton of coins), 3d) You catch all 15 Speedy Spirits (including the 3 which only appear during the blackout), 3e) You catch all 10 Golden Mice (5 of which spawn randomly with a 20% chance each time you enter the room that they are in, including one in the Sealed Room).
Since there's a finite amount of money in the game the runner knows how many coins/bills a spot should give him to know if he got them all. Spots like the ones he reset on have a possibility for a coin to fall out of bounds in that case he has to reset until that doesn't happen. The reason he kept walking in and out of rooms a lot is most money spots are rng if they give you money and can only give you money once. If they didn't give you money the first time you have to walk at least 2 rooms away to try again. So he constantly kept a mental note of which spots he hasn't collected yet and tried them when passing the room or, if he knew he wasn't going to touch that section of the mansion again, grinded it until he got all the spots
Its 100% the same as NTSC except the boolosus fight. The reason PAL;s hidden mansion has more money isnt due to more money spots its actually because every speedy spirit and golden mouse containing a gem has their gem replaced with a silver diamond in the PAL hidden mansion which doesnt affect this run at all minus the final amount of G
