@@dk6173 I've seen Luka play many, many times and he's a phenomenal player. He is NOT a good defender and he never has been. When they get to the playoffs, he will be attacked mercilessly again. Basketball is NOT baseball. It isn't a game in which statistics perfectly capture what happens on the court. The Luka argument is all about stats and it's flimsy at this point.
Kyrie is averaging 25/5/5 this season, his numbers are actually better than when he was winning a ring in Cleveland so I don't think this idea that Luka/Kyrie don't complement each other is very valid. The main issue for the Mavs is they spent half the season as the 3rd most injured team in the entire NBA, otherwise the Mavs wouldn't be #8 right now. Also, I think you underestimate how much DLive, Gaff, and PJ Washington have balanced out this roster and made it deeper.
I totally agree they definitely balanced it and made it way deeper I made an analysis of it several weeks ago if you wanna check it out! Also what I meant was referring to the two starts fixing each others weaknesses not that they don’t work well together. Luka and kyrie play very well together and make the offense virtually unstoppable when they are on, but my point in the video is that to optimize a roster to its fullest potential typically you want your highest paid players to have different strengths and make up for each others weaknesses which is not kyrie and Luka. Don’t get me wrong at all man I think they are awesome together and I’m super excited to see them in the playoffs together. My point was just stating it’s more difficult to become a championship team when atleast one of your stars isn’t a lock down defensive guy. I was purely speaking about optimizing the roster, not talent or how well they play together on offense.
Can't tell the casuals anything. Yes I'm a Luka fan 100%. The criticism this man endures is unreal. The worse by far is Luka is not a winner when all he has done is win at every level. This team would be lottery bound every year without Luka and almost are for one main reason.......... Let's keep this real... When you have hands down the worse coach in all the NBA as a team stand zero chance for success. I hate Kidds rotations,use age of timeouts,the mans ego is outta control and amazingly takes zero accountability for when this team plays like hot garbage... And for all you casuals that say how much Luka complains(and I agree it's a little cringe at times)he gets hacked,held, and hammered 90% when he gets the ball. Not once and I mean once has Kidd stepped up and went to bat for his superstar. No way Malone or Pops or hell insert every other coach would be picking up Techs for Luka. Kidd is the worse and needs to be fired. Until then Mavs will fall short of our expectations and mark my words Kidd is gonna cost this team important games down the stretch then everybody will call for his firing but it will be to late. Watch and wait cuz it will happen

The Mavs need a coach that demands more from the team, and that actually knows what they are doing. I want a coach that will put people in their place when he needs to, and isn’t afraid of making players mad. Of course you don’t want to scare off all of your players, but I think a good coach knows how to demand more of his team in a way that the team respects it.
Y'all act like Kidd is coaching the Celtics roster. Kidd getting Technical Fouls would make Luka a better player? That's what you're leading with? Okay... 🙄
As an avid Mavericks fan and Luka fan, I thought your commentary was spot on. Because of all the injuries and trades that have occurred over the past two seasons the peak chemistry has still not occurred. My highest hope is that they continue to build that chemistry and not get so down on themselves. Perhaps they can have a Texas Rangers type of run. They definitely have the players to make a run. They just need the chemistry in place.
Yeah I feel like if they start clicking and connecting, they will be one of the scariest teams in the league. Let’s not forget the heat, a play-in team went all the way to the finals last year. Anything can happen in the playoffs.
The only reason the Mavs are 8th seed right now is because Kyrie missed 30 games. The Mavs would be top 4 right now had Kyrie played. Fully healthy nobody can beat Luka and Kyrie in the playoffs.
The Mavs have 1-4 seed talent even now, but there’s some pieces that aren’t gelled yet, such as PJ and Gafford. Definitely gotta dish Timmy off in off season and get a defensive minded guard.
As long as ESPN analysts don't watch the games themselves, but are boisterous in spouting an opinion, most fans will follow suit since they usually get their information from these so called "experts" that don't watch the games.
I agree the team has so much potential, but there are a couple connecting pieces missing. This offseason goals should be to pick up an elite point of attack defender and to get rid of Kidd and Timmy.

The anti-Kidd takes are narcissistic- he’s responsible for the losses but not the wins…he’s responsible for any player plateauing or going backwards but not for unexpected early or sustained development: he’s responsible for rotations that don’t work but not the ones that do; he’s responsible when other teams shoot above their average but not when they don’t…you get the picture, you know what you’re doing…
Narcissistic seems a little much every coach does good and bad things and you also don’t attribute everything that happens in the game to the coach, but when a coach continues to do more harm than good or even the same amount of harm as good for the team as a whole he’s at the best a mid mid coach and at his worst he’s fairly limiting.
I agree completely. The Mavericks could win the championship this season and Dallas fans would still whine about Kidd, which just shows what a terrible fan base the Mavericks have... Kidd is one of only two Hall of Famers ever drafted by the Mavs, and he just had them in the WCF 2 seasons ago, which was an overachievement for that squad, and Dallas' first playoff series win since the 2011 Finals, you'd think Mavs fans might be rooting for the guy to succeed, but no...
