@@kingofla2155 "slow motion game" That is referring to the moves and rhythm of Paul Pierce's style of play he will lull you to sleep than get by you or set you up for a jumper he had a great hesitation moves as well but never was Paul Pierce going to blow by his defenders using a first step like Westbrook or MVP Rose he never had that explosion in his game.

Basically he does small take small delays to analize the court and make the best play. I don't think there are many slow players in nba cause they'd get their shots blocked all the time if it was the case as most players are athletic and fast. Luka has an internal gyroscope through which he almost constantly adjusts his speed and trajectory, so as to catch opponents on the wrong foot, at which point he already has at least 2 options to make the next move: either pass to the most favorable teammate, or make a feint, step back3, or something and scores from any distance, in front of any defender.

They analyzed NBA timing for stopping and starting speed and Luke has some of the fastest feet in the league. Doesn't run fast and his hands aren't crazy fast but he can stop on a dime, accelerate and has great footwork.

I remember reading something similar about Harden during his HOU days. A study showed he wasn’t terribly fast or athletic, but was elite at decelerating.

Luka is quick and has great coordination and agility. You don't need to be the fastest or have 40 inch vertical to be good. Magic Johnson wasn't super athletic either, but he was 6'9" with great handles and was graceful.

@@Vini7034 it's not the flopping. It's the fact that coaches don't really coach any more and there's no nuance to the game. Every team is just 3pt hunting. Luka can hit the most difficult stepback threes we've ever seen over anyone but can't shoot 80% from the FT Line. It legit makes no sense.

its cause he pauses or does it after alot of separation...like Luka goes into his shot , you go block and in the air or motion you realize he didnt even start shooting yet , he not doing a pump fake hes doing a fast ass shot motion but going up slow as hell...and now you're in trouble cause you're playing catch up, so you jump to block but realize you're gonna foul cause he didnt even go up yet...hes smart af...he going into his shot, making you bite and then jumping forward or leaning forward into the shot and now you gotta make sure you dont hit him cause you already committed...he knows you're tryna catch up..its a wild thing to see imo him shooting a three is basically the three point version of Mchales torture chamber...if he sees you bite he shoots it slow...if he catch's you with a move and has space he shoots it up fast

If anything, sometimes being slow can be harder to guard because it disrupts rhythm. You're used to everything at a certain speed, so when something goes against it, you have to undo a bunch of muscle memory. It's the same reason a hesitation move works. The hesi gets people on skates, gets them in the air, and then you could go right by them. You're trying to get to the spot before they do, but they go so slow that you're already there and they've already started going somewhere else

You gotta be able to make the shot to keep the defender guessing as Luka does. I you can't shoot they give you more separation and the defenders have more time to react. With Luka and Bird defenders know they gotta be ready to contest at any moment cuz if they don't it's over, so they can get crafty and get you off balance cuz you don't know what's coming. So if you are slow, or small, better get that shot on point.

Not because you are fast, it means you are effective. Luka makes his own phase, and during this phase he was like playing chess thinking what he gonna do next. He is not playing fast, but he is playing intelligently and efficient.

I feel like that slow footed killers that have no bounce are a underrated build. Less wear and tear from unnecessary movements, I could see Luka being effective even in his late 30s

High IQ and fundamentals today is rare. Most these dudes today rely only on strength and athleticism. They might have some “highlight” or “cool looking” moves but minimal fundamentals. Guys like Larry, MJ, Hakeem were so fundamentally different from the rest of the league they just looked different. So many moves on the fly, no one could figure them out.

I did a speech in College, 1986 about Jordan, Wilkins and Dan Issel. Luka is slow but he's like a car with 10 gears and he can shift his pace very quickly.. his change of direction is pretty unreal as well... also the way he utilizes his body and angles is something great that he does... dude doing fake pass and just layup the ball under the armpit of his opponents once they fall into his fakes.. 🤣😅 and they are all left surprised

Also luka's jumpshot motion is slow aswell... hes like loading his shot mid air... but hes so good at creating space.. that defenders cany block his shot 😂😅
