Wildes might be MVP of this show. If not, he’s the heart. There is a HUGE shift in tone and atmosphere without him. Still good, but it’s more silver rather than gold without him.

I think a few things: 1. You’re so used to the high quality that comes from the 3 of them that it feels so off with missing 1 2. Wildes probably is the driving force behind the show’s energy 3. Nick’s voice being gone also definitely doesn’t help the energy either

Mavs aren’t really underachieving, they’ve just been injured. Kyrie has been out for 22 games, Lively 18 games, Green and Kleber have missed time too. Even Luka has missed games.

I still think the year Giannis won The Finals he should have won the mvp as well with Luka in second of Jokic who won it. That year Mavs had about the same roster quality with Luka and Jokic both carrying there teams and Mavs were a higher seed. I am a Bucks/Giannis fan but yeah , I do not get it either. I think people put down Luka to prop up Jokic and that Giannis is getting overlooked a bit if they finish strong he should win it.

Man is this the only sports show that’s actually enjoyable anymore? They very rarely talk over each other, they actually discuss the sport, show passion, and have all the stats to back it up. Been a while since I enjoyed sports media this much, hats off guys 🙏

The ONLY argument against him is team record and last time I checked MVP is an individual award. With all of the injuries the mavs have had Luka has dragged this team to an above .500 record which is still impressive.

Underachieving? The Mavs have had the most injury riddled season and Luka is keeping them afloat. Now that they are healthy they are a league best 6 game winning streak atm and have a more complete roster with the new trades. Dante Exum still to join the team. Luka is hands down with what he’s done with this team this year is the MVP

Yeah, Brad Stevens is the MVP as much as Tatum. I think that's what is hurting Jason's chances, too good of teammates. If they win a championship he will be the odds on favorite next season though.

First of all this is not Giannis' fault cause I have seen so many ppl saying everything should run through Dame. In fact, ever since Doc Rivers got there, Giannis is taking less shots. The fact that the Mavs are in the position they are with all of the injuries they have had proves why Luka is the most VALUABLE player. I honestly don’t think there is a debate of who is the most valuable player to their team. Jokic is the only other argument

The Mavs are 10th in the league, the Thunder are 3rd. SGA is 25 years old, and he's the oldest player getting minutes on his team. They have no other all-stars. Chet is great, but he's a 21 year old rookie, who sat his first season.

Giannis is on pace to be the first player in recorded NBA history to average 30+ PPG on 60% or higher FG percentage. He's top 20 in all 5 major statistical categories across the NBA (he's the only person to ever do this back in I believe 2019), top 10 in all of them but blocks. His team is the third seed. Why exactly is he not considered the favorite for MVP? Because his coach got fired?

@@kingjaydex7464 Easiest way to expose yourself with 0 credibility is to say the guy who shouldn't have been playing and still averaged 33 19 9 in the full games he played had a meltdown. He's not a good free throw shooter. Neither was Tim Duncan. Tim Duncan would often tip the ball to Ginobili or parker during end of game free throw moments so they could seal it. Exactly what Giannis did against Miami with Middleton. rich paul comes out every year and says AD IS better than Giannis. The entire universe knows this is 🧢, but there's the agenda to keep praise away from him as long as possible

I think the list makes a lot of sense. I do think it is going to be interesting to see where Tatum ends up on the list as he is the best player on the best team. I'll also throw in Anthony Edwards and Donovan Mitchell as potential candidates. Anthony Edwards has a similar argument to SGA albeit with more help. Donovan Mitchell has lead the Cavs to the leagues best win streak this year all the while missing his back court mate.

Porzingis has been the best and most valuable player on the Celtics over Tatum. Gobert has been the best and most valuable player on the Wolves over Ant. The Cavs have a better record, when Mitchell is playing without Garland than playing with him.

Anyone think it's about letting Dame get the chance to be more of a main driving force for the team's success, (probably more post-season driven) on a team that's better than some of those Portland teams, after making a kind of production about getting Dame in the off-season? Like due to narrative/history, I don't think Giannis necessarily hates letting Dame be Batman and Giannis as an S-tier Robin because Giannis already has a stellar title run.

The one possibility for Giannis's comments might be to mimic Harden's, "I am the system" statement when he was traded to the Clippers. Everybody knows that Kawhi is the gasoline that fuels the Clippers' engine, but Harden came in to be the oil which makes sure it runs smoothly. In the same way, Giannis provides the power for the Bucks, but he wants Dame to control the flow of their game.

I think Giannis saying that is smart. Dame would have to be more motivated to win a championship if he feels that he will get full credit for it and not get a "busrider" label afterwards. It will also boost his confidence to have arguably the best player in the league deferring to him. luka's stats is not better. 34/9/9 on 49% FG 62%TS vs 26/12/9 on 58% FG 65% TS Not saying either one is clearly better (I'm a fan of both) but it is very close given the relatively big difference in scoring volume and efficiency.

To be fair to Luka, the Mavericks have been plagued by injuries all season. Kyrie has missed 22 games, Lively II has missed 18, Kleber has missed 36, Exum has missed 24 and counting, and Josh Green has missed 13. No other MVP candidate’s team has had that many crucial rotation players miss so many games due to injuries. If team record and standings carry as much weight as they seem to carry in MVP talks, a team’s injury history should be considered a significant factor. It seems very likely that the Mavericks would be a top 3 or 4 team in the Western Conference if they had been as healthy as the other MVP candidates teams.
