Love to you my Friend. I sing it to my son. It makes me feel something real that matters in being a father in spite of all the conditions that make it hard to be a father. Its amazing you could share this with your father.
When my father was in his final hours after a hard 8 month battle with Lung cancer (he was a Volunteer and republican prisoner and blanketman), I played this song and I never heard it beforehand, only played by yourself. I never cried that day until I heard it, the lyrics and your voice and this song mean so much to me now he passed away in October just a week after both our birthdays, thank you Dan for this cover❤️
@@kentwiseman4853 As a young man growing up in the occupied 6(I will never ever recognize the manufacturer name of n.i) the blanket men and hunger strikes were a massive influence on me and my future political sense of right and wrong....🇮🇪🔥❤️......Onto a new Ireland.
My little boy died of cancer at 3 years boy. He was such a strong boy he seemed so much older just by his energy like he was here before, so calm, strong and wise for his young age
av prayed for you pal . a hope your safe and loved . if u ever feel unloved just ask jesus for a cuddle . av asked him for a cuddle lots of times . stay strong ma friend .
A song we played at my brother's funeral who took his own life not too long ago. Left a young son and daughter. Strongest man I ever knew. Was below me in a family of three girls and 6 lads. Me best mate. Miss ya so much Col
This song is about a man working away, but some of the lyrics really get to me. The emotion this song holds for me. My baby son should have been 4 next week. Instead I carried him in a little white coffin to his grave. An exceptional performance. RIP James.
JONOCALDWELL so sorry to hear that. Hope your keeping well and remember he’s always with you. I lost a brother at a young age and it was the worst thing that ever happened to me and my family. Can’t imagine losing my little one. My heart goes out to you! Thanks for the kind words and keep the head up. Grá Mór a chára! Rest in peace James. 💚🇮🇪
Lockdown breakfasts. Dan Mcabe on the phone speaker. Cooking pancakes for my kids, 300ml milk, 100g flour. 2 eggs. Fookin legend mate. Soon enoughh Ill be back on 4 am starts and 6/7 days a week. Till then I'm loving the time with my nippers. Loving the traditional songs Dan. Proper voice.
This is a treasure I’ve found in lockdown. Incredible vocals and that raspy voice is unique like no one else I’ve heard before. Respect and grá from Belfast 💚

I must say my brothers and I have loved this song for many years and while Luke's will be a timeless classic you're the first one to do it true justice. Fair play Dan please keep it up 🙏
There’s not to many in this world who can sing songs well Known by The Legend Luke Kelly.. But I tell you this Dan. You can. And with your own style to. Top class fella
Drugs are bad news they don't make things better .. But music especially music like this is good for Yeh! Living in a world full of propaganda and nonsense.. It calms Yeh at times pumps Yeh up other times.. But always makes you not forget who you are and be proud of who you are....Just remember people he's still your dahh🇮🇪
Hi, Dan. Since I found you in RU-vid, i listen to your wonderful musik every day. For me you have one of the best voices in the world. Whenever i hear one of your songs, it makes me feel a little better. I tell that cause our beloved daughter died in a tragic accident 2 years ago. She was just 18 years old and it will hurt all my live. I just want to thank you sharing your wonderful musik with us.
Can’t say how I happy I am to hear this lovely rendition of this lesser known song of Luke’s. One of my favourites and was pleasantly surprised when I saw this popping up this morning.
I never comment on RU-vid to be honest so belive it or not this means more than a simply comment.. Dan you are a rare breed unfortunately. .. our roots are slowly disappearing the stories you are telling should be for ever told your voice is beyond perfect to tell the story ... its 2021 crazy world this brings normality back the rare aul good times .. never taking for granted .. we need more of you please !!
Brings a tear to my eye! My Dad used to sing this to us as kids. Sadly he is no longer here. Much respect from Donegal, on a spine tingling rendition of this song👏
My God this has given me goose bumps love this song reminds me of my Dad and his brothers who worked on the English motorways during the 1960s God Bless you Dan you have an amazing voice best wishes from Armagh.

This song is beautiful my boyfriend sings this to our son 💙 he works on the road in England. He's originally from Ireland but moved over here to be with us so we relate to this song. Beautifully sung ♥️
Dan. I watch/listen to Luke K. And the Dubliners often. To hear your rendition of their/these songs is amazing brother. I'd say a Elvis/Irishman. Please cover all the oldies. Peace be with you.
Luke Kelly would be unbelievable proud of that version. My Father sings this song at any/every party he goes to and he loves your voice. Goosebumps every time I listen to your songs. Thank you Dan. 😁💪🇨🇮
Savage singer iv played this song none stop the past few weeks since my nephew passed away he was only 26 he loved this song and sang with you Dan every night in his room ❤️so we buried him with this song playing.🥰Beautiful memory
Dan the man, this was simply breathtaking to say the least your voice is so unique there's a soothing calmness and a raspy tone all mixed together with the raw emotion of the song very well done and thanks for sharing your amazing talent with the world

Just unbelievable voice thank you so much for sharing your pure raw talent ,you do our country proud for singing the song the way you do i salute you 🙂👌👌
I have no idea why I am discovering this song today. This song has melted 40 years of unspoken words to my now deceased father. This song is one of the most epic ballads I have ever heard. I hope some day my own son will hear this and hopefully understand.

This song was played at my father's funeral home at massy's in rathfarman some of the family must of chose the song I never heard of Dan Mccabe before that day but this song seem to really be so to catch the essence of my Dad it wasn't my Dad's song but I remember my Dad always listening to that sort of music has a young boy Dan Mccabe is fantastic singer and the family associate the song every every time we hear it with my Dad, we are so you to having parents around that we never really then what it's like when they are gone REST IIN PEACE BIG MAN WE LOVE YOU DAD GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN 🙏🙏🙏
One of my favourite songs for different reasons but this is by far the best cover I've heard. Not goin to compare you to Luke Kelly because nobody should be but my god you could be every bit as good. well done Dan and keep it goin. The ballad of Ray mcCreesh would be unreal to hear from you. 👍
Cheers Ger, appreciate the feedback! I’m a big Luke Kelly fan too as you can probably tell. Completely agree with you. Luke is an icon! Will have a listen to ur request, thanks a million and all the best!
An absolutely classic and im going to make a bold statement here and say that this is better than the original. You do this song absolute justice. Class Dan. Take a bow Mo chara. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪❤
This is fantastic. My grandfather used to sing this to us, it's my favourite song ever. Thanks for this Dan, great song choice and a great song's voice.
This is a rare form of raw talent which you only see now and again 😌 love this. Fair play Dan on the Hogan Stand sharing your video too! Watching from Derry ☘️
Just discovered Dan. What an amazing unique earthy voice and brilliant guitar playing. Great to see so many great young folk artists keeping it alive. Luke would be so proud.
Dan, when I heard this for the first I stopped what I was doing and wept. I missed all of my children growing up due to working away from home, like so many of us. I’m now playing catch up. I’m sure my wife put our young uns to bed telling them about me, and answering the hardest questions of “where’s Da?” And “when’s Da coming home?” Luke, wrote and sang songs with so much passion; Dan, you have that passion a passion only a son of Ireland has when singing soulful tunes. Please, please get an album together and get on iTunes so we don’t have log in into RU-vid. God bless you Dan.
My God Mr. McCabe...you are the real deal...passionate, powerful, pitch perfect gorgeous tone-and unique. You will soar once the right person catches onto your magic. Best of luck!
Seriously cannot stop listening to this man...he is absolutely amazing.... Best voice I've heard in a long time.... Dan McCabe will 100% make it in the big time 👍🏻
Wow, just WOW! Dan, you made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. I love the lyrics, love your voice, LOVE this recording. You have a rare talent. Thank you.
I’d do anything to be able to ring dad again he worked away most of my life we lost contact later on in life we met up then he got stage 4 lung cancer he passed on my birthday last year I love you pops I’ll see you again one day
Best version I have heard since Luke himself. Came across your music by accident and I'm glad I did. Have ya playing on the speaker here while I'm supposed to be doing college work😁
Many people miss the point of the song..an Irish man struggling to make ends meet for his family so he goes to serve his time in England so his family can live.. brilliant song 🇮🇪❤️
Before you even started singing mate I teared up. My old friend who's met God before I did was a big fan. After hearing this I am too buddy. May God and Ireland bless yout.
Fantastic well done brilliant I really enjoyed that,,,as always taking on a song like that especially when Luke Kelly sings it is always difficult,,you sang it from the heart and great voice aswell looking forward to listening to you in the future
