The only time you see that Mark Hamill fake head in Empire is when the mask blows. The later shot of him staring through the smoke was actual Mark Hamill.

One of the most convincing fake heads I ever stared at in slow motion and was fooled by. The motionless eyes with the smoke were the strongest hint.
