Lum's Ollie Burger Secret Recipe!

The Ollie Burger has its roots in Florida in the 60's with its creator, Ollie Gleichenhaus. Lum's bought the recipe and started serving up these unique burgers in their restaurants. Lum's hung in there through 3 owners and ultimately began closing locations in the 80s. The last Lum's closed in 2016. Having tried this burger now, I'm glad that this channel can help keep this amazing burger alive! Below is the recipe.
Marinade
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed Lemon Juice
1 1/2 teaspoons Seasoned Salt
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon A−1 Steak Sauce
1 tablespoon Corn Oil
1/2 cup Beef Broth
1 teaspoon Heinz 57 Sauce
1/4 teaspoon Garlic Salt
1 teaspoon white vinegar

We had a couple of Lum's restaurants here on the Gulf Coast back in the early 70's or perhaps late 60's. I remember their beer steamed hot dogs the most. Looks like a tasty burger. I don't remember ever having one, but I would sure eat one today. Cheers Greg!

Never heard of this restaurant, but I used to live in Illinois many years ago and now I live in North Carolina. And sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night craving a Chicago Style Hot Dog, a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, and a Hot Italian Beef Sandwich with Hot Gardenia and dipped. And realize that all I have is a bag of Chex mix, Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!

There’s an Ollie’s Trolley still open on Central Avenue in Cincinnati’s West End Neighborhood. It’s worth visiting, if you’re in town, but they’re only open until 5pm. I think the Ollie Burger recipe has changed over the years. When I got burgers from the little red trolley back in the 1970s, they fried up the burgers and then steamed the cooked burgers in a marinade that definitely included caraway seeds, as when they opened the steamer drawer you could see the seeds in the marinade and on the burgers they served. I think the “new” owners tweaked the recipe after Lums closed because I haven’t noticed caraway seeds on the burgers in over 40 years. I liked the Ollie Burger better in the ‘70s, but everyone misses things the way they were when they were young.

I've been marinating burger patties for years. It's just some Lea & Perrins and a mix of onion/garlic powder, black pepper, and some dried herbs. They're so tasty they're addictive. That W sauce caramelizes and is a heavenly umami bomb. As long as you keep em real cold, they won't fall apart in the marinade.

A man in Louisville Ky owns the rights to Ollies recipe and he runs one of the last Ollies Trolly. I miss that place so much it was outstanding the locations in my city closed up years ago. The Ollier burger and the fries with the seasoning were so good. The Franchise was owned by Ky Governor John Y. Brown at one time. You are missing the rub /seasoning that was on the Ollie burger. It had cracked black pepper, kosher salt, course dried garlic and small dried seeds of some kind fennel perhaps. Lets say what you made is nothing like an Ollie burger Even your sauce is wrong there was a few other ingredients in the sauce than just 1000 island dressing.

I would have mine with lettuce and tomato and mayo...Don't remember mozz. cheese or the 1000 island.....the meat was thick and juicy...tried to copy it for years....I could taste the Worcestershire sauce....I knew that was one of the ingredients...had no idea there were so many other things..and not a lot of spices added to it like course peppers which I tried to use.....couldn't quite get it...going to try this one....
