Lol another bush tucker plant ideal for when you are starving 😂. There's a good reason a lot of these fruit plants have never caught on 😂😂. That's one more fruit than I got from hundreds of flowers 😅😅. I'm wondering if I can manage to dig mine out 😂😂.
Well I’m not sure if I would eat it if I was starving 😂. It could possibly taste better in warmer climates, with a pollination partner, and maybe as the tree gets older… but I wouldn’t hang my hat on it.
At least the birds didn't get your one surviving fruit. I had wondered about growing this. Seems like its not exactly worth growing from your taste test
My plant looks exactly like yours- same size ect. Mine flowered amazingly last year but didn’t set fruit - it’s starting to bud up again now. It’s interesting how you mentioned that it defoliated once trying to unattach the roots from the soil beneath the container - mine did the same and defoliated. I’d imagine they taste similar to Chilean guavas too -I didn’t much care for the pine taste in Chilean guavas but adore the smell of the little candy floss smelling Chilean guava fruit - and my toddler LOVES snacking on them. I hope she loves the Luma Berry just the same. Just here in Auckland, New Zealand. Thanks for your two videos on luma Apiculata
Thanks so much for watching and your support. I have 5 varieties of Chilean guava and they vary some much from plant to plant. Some don’t have any pine resin taste at all. So I would be inclined to suggest this plant might be the same. It might be that I’ve got a complete dud! A few people took offence at me saying they didn’t taste nice, so I guess they have plants that produce nice fruits. I hope you enjoy your summer season, sending peace from the north
My plant flowered for the first time this year. 3 of the berries ripened for me. I found that they wer thin fleshed and the fruits tasted aromatic and slightly peppery, a bit like the berries from my Lantana.
It wasn’t my sort of flavour… but who knows if it changes taste with age be maybe with cross pollination. Glad you managed to get a couple of fruits as well. Thanks for watch mike
Yeah maybe it was just because of it being the first year fruiting. Maybe it’s the particular plant I’ve got. Maybe it’s because it wasn’t cross pollinated. Who knows but I’m not giving up just yet. Plus it looks amazing, I like the plant itself.
@@tropicalsat52n86 I planted mine into what turned out to be the coldest part of the garden. It was right next to a regular Myrtle and they both died. I think I'll reserve that area for Spring bulbs in the future.
