Dealing with this for 2 years now. Taking 800mg of gabapentin and 20 MG of Cymbalta. The Cymbalta really did the trick. Also get an epidural every 4-5 months. Things are going OK. I would need spinal fusion if things get worse. When I saw those rods and the cage I almost puked.
I use Tramadol and Tylenol and metaxalone for back issues....no leg pain but spondylolisthesis causes back stiffness/pain....I do stretches, abdominal and bridges every day and they help a ton
Hello Dr Su. I'm writing from my hospital bed, recovering from my 6th Kyphoplasty! Vertebrae L4 this time. All appear to be about ready to fracture. I've been told by the Dr that we have to wait until a complete compressed fracture occurs before doing a kyphoplasty to repair and strengthen that vertebrae. What is your experience and opinion please? When you mentioned L4 nerves in your opinion, I payed extra attention. This L4 injury has been the most painful, even with being given the meds you have mentioned. The pain has moved to the top of the right hip. If the position changes quickly in the hospital bed, I scream in pain. How long will this last for? Thank you.
Been dealing with it 15 years hard to walk at times hard to get out of bed tried it all been taking Percocet 10 years still only take 4 a day .dr said it would be a 12hour surgery to fix .my heart dr wouldn't ok me having it
I recently had an MRI which revealed "severe" bilateral foraminal, and "severe" central canal stenosis at L3/L4 and L5/S1. I have been referred to a neurosurgeon. Surely hope he can decrease the horrible pain I've been suffering with.
I have L5 S1 bilateral pars defect with grade 3 degenerative spondylolisthesis in particular anterolisthesis with severe bilateral foraminal stenosis and a slight bulge at L4 disc it sucks i don't know what they will do but i wish they would help me :( i had it since i was a baby was officially diagnosed at 11
Is it safe to see a chiropractor? Boyfriend keeps recommending it. Just had an MRI with lumbar foraminal stenosis, some mild disc bulging. Currently on 900mg gabapentin a day and lower back and buttocks still burning but no longer having shooting pain and numbness. I wish to exhaust non surgical options before I consider surgery
My MRI report Finding 1. Disc degeneration is seen at multiple level. 2. No compression of the thecal sac or canal stenosis is noted. 3. Normal height and alignment of the lumbar vertebral bodies is noted. Posterior bony elements appear normal, Bone marrow returns normal signals. 4. The terminal spinal cord, cauda equina and filum terminale are unremarkable. 5. The paravertebral and posterior para spinal soft tissue show no abnormality. Impression 1. No disc herniation or significant extrinsic pressure on thecal sac and nerve roots. 2. No fracture or dislocation seen. Suggest my treatment. Thank you
If it really is inflamation then why not offer a better medication like a dmard,,these work far better than otc meds,,do you ever offer methotrexate or hydroxychloriquin,,these work very well for inflamation bug are never offered
how can you get a diagnosis for this? My brother in the uk thinks he has this. He has been suffering 7 years of pain, cant work anymore, can hardly stand, sit, lie down without pain. UK health system is a disaster of 3 year waiting lists. Want to do something to help him. Can you give any suggestions?
In the UK, MRI is treated as gold standard for diagnosing this, unfortunately only 2 of my 5 MRIs picked it up so it’s not a guarantee or certainly not from the scans I’ve been referred for
Hi Doctor - I am not based in the USA and am scheduled for surgery in 1.5 months. Would like to schedule an online consult (I can upload my MRI's etc online) and seek your advice on the need for Spinal Fusion or not. Please let me know how I can reach out and schedule a consult.
Have a consult scheduled - is there an email address to follow up on the upload of MRI scans etc? Have done all the questionnaires. @@DrBrianSuTheSpineGuy
Dealing with this for 2 long years. Gabapentin and pregabalin did not work and pain meds/anti inflammatory meds only resulted in some improvement. Tested negative for small nerve neuropathy so will try PT & weight loss to see if that helps and then on to steroid injections. I’m interested to see your video regarding the surgical intervention. Knowledge about all treatment options is so helpful.
@@npsyntaxmy Ortho referred me to a neuro to treat neuropathy and try meds before considering anything more invasive (epidural). Neuro did a punch biopsy on the foot, ankle, leg, and hip and sent it to a lab on the east coast to see if the tissue showed any sign of small nerve fiber neuropathy. It took months to get the results but they were negative. Next step is PT. It’s been a slow road…teaching me to be patient in a world that wants an instant fix.
