World Renowned Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Alfred Bonati was Live discussing neural foraminal stenosis. Patient advocates are standing by to answer all your questions. Call us now at 888-343-0082 or visit askbonati.com/?You...
Neural foraminal narrowing, also known as foraminal stenosis, is a condition that results when the spinal nerve roots are compressed. These nerve roots run through small openings at every level of the spinal column, called foramina. When these foramina become narrowed (stenotic) they can compress the nerve roots causing symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness and or weakness along the areas served by the nerve.
Foraminal narrowing usually affects a single nerve root on one side of the body, although some patients may experience bilateral foraminal narrowing (bilateral neural stenosis), caused by nerve compression on both sides of the spine.
Foraminal stenosis can be very frustrating due to the pain and discomfort that it may cause when getting into certain positions or engaging in certain activities. Unlike many other back or neck conditions, most conservative foraminal stenosis treatment options, such as pain medications, may not be of much benefit. Some may choose to modify their current lifestyle, but others may opt for spine surgery in order to get treatment for foraminal stenosis.

Oh gosh I wish I could see a specialist like you in Australia. I have spondylolithesis, severe foraminal stenois one the left side and moderate on the right at s1/l5. When you described the pain levels and symptoms and walking up the stairs I was like yes!!! It has been so hard to get anyone to take me seriously, I keep telling doctors that I feel like my legs give up when I’m walking up the stairs and they just look at me like I’m crazy. I have just turned 40 and feel like I should be able to things like climb stairs, but they say I’m too young for surgery.

I also have a herniated disc at this level. I am tired of being unable to walk properly

In fact, a lot of our patients come to us after being told nothing more can be done for them, or their doctors were not taking their condition nor pain seriously. is fusion my only option for a pars defect on both sides at S1 L5? That’s what the surgeon in Boston is telling me.

My MRI says I have bilateral neural foraminal stenosis L5 S1 with compression on the left nerve whixh is causing numbness in my left leg. I also have LLD due to my left hip being hiked up. I don't have any disc bulges or degenerative disease. Could the stenosis be caused by the hip hike causing the compression?

I have recently had an MRI that reveals severe foraminal stenosis at L3 -L4 (left foramina), L4-L5 (bilateral stenosis), and L5-S1 (bilateral stenosis): Question: my symptoms (besides LBP) is restricted to severe left foraminal neuralgia. Do you think that I would be a candidate for endoscopic surgery?

What does “multi level anterior osteophytes of thoracic spine” mean?? I stay in severe pain 24/7. I have problems in my thoracic spine and lumbar spine. I also have 8 bulging discs and neural foraminal stenosis. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO RELIEVE MY PAIN? I’m a 39 year old male. THANK YOU
@BonatiSpine
@BonatiSpine 8 месяцев назад
Osteophytes refer to bone spurs in this case in your thoracic or mid-back area of your spine. Neural foraminal stenosis refers to narrowing in the canals through which spinal nerves exit the spinal canal, which can cause nerve impingement, commonly known as pinched nerves. Please provide your contact information to have a patient advocate arrange a review of your MRI's by one of our physicians. Online at www.bonati.com/contact-us
