Ya no problem! I also think with the gear you do invest for the g85 can be carried over to the next camera, like your handles, filters (i would get larger ones if you plan to switch to full frames, like 82mm), and strap, so you can continue using those after the g85!

@@TheCommodoreProductions May I ask one more question? I want to go full frame one day, but I don’t know if I should go with Sony or Canon? What would you do? What has more choices of lenses? I hope I’m not bothering you. Thanks very much!
@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
 @TG-ov8gl Not at all! That will depend on your purpose to be honest, and what you really prefer in your camera. Canon would have more afforadable and have more variety of lenses to choose from, but again, it might come down to a very niche thing that you will like for your videography and photography. For me, it would be stabilization and colors, and I think Panasonic's cameras are suited for me and I will most likely get those. Maybe for your work you prefer autofocus, so Sony and Canon could be the way to go, or you film long term, so maybe avoid Canon cause they shut off after 30minutes of continuous filming on higher resolutions and also the overheating problem they had (this is from what I recall before, it might not be the case anymore but I just thought to throw in an example to help you understand). I would definitely research the camera specifics if they fit your criteria, for ex: I would like my camera to have 4K and 24fps, IBIS, cheap native lenses, etc etc. Hopefully this helps!

I started with the G80 / G85. After upgrading and upgrading and upgrading, I have the GH6 now. It feels like a brick. If I am honest, the G85 with the 12-60 kit lens and 25mm did everything I possibly needed. It is all between the ears. I was shooting at 60fps in 1080 and most of the time in iA mode / natural profile. Only when I had time I went for full manual control. You made a great video here! Not everybody needs 16 bit RAW internal recording at 320 fps.

Great tips! I've had the G85 since it was new, and it's still a go-to B cam and even A cam for run-and-gun situations. Only other recommendation I'd give is invest in a Viltrox or Metabones speedbooster. This will help in low light, maximize your field-of-view, and open the door to a lot of great Canon glass. And since the autofocus is trash anyway, you really aren't sacrificing anything.

Good tips! I set mine to standard (0, -5, -5, 0), because I want to lose as little information as possible . It's easier to decrease saturation and contrast than to increase it in post. I also set my curves to -1 (shadows) and +1 (highlight). This gives you more information in the mid tones, where your skin tones lie, resulting in more suble skin tones. The mist filter raises the shadows a bit and lowers the highlights, which compensates the increased contrast from the curve adjustment.

Great video! I think I'm going to pick up the 25mm lens you mentioned in the video and have listed in the description. Will the K&F Concept 67mm ND filter be compatible with that, or do I need any adapters?
@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
Thanks! Ya so the 25mm I believe has a 46mm filter size, so you'll need to get a step up ring from 46mm. Ex: 46mm to 67mm or 46mm to 82mm It also depends on your lenses that you have currently and for future lenses with the size you get for the ND filter. 67mm I think is great because it's bigger for the panasonic micro 4/3 lenses available, but if you plan on upgrading in the future to full frame camera, those lenses would be much bigger, and I would look into getting a 82mm nd filter size, as you can use it later if you do change or upgrade your camera. But since the g85 is entry level, I think if you do upgrade your camera at that point, the ND filter you can also upgrade. But it really depends on how you personally want to go about it, so hopefully that helps you!

Awesome footage with the G85! Was all the footage shot with the 25mm 1.7? I also have this lens, but not sure if I've ever gotten anything as clean as what you had there. I also wonder, why not use Cinelike D with the sharpness, noise reduction and saturation turned down? Other videos I've watched have recommended that setting as best for colour grading with LUTs etc. Would love to hear your take on it, because your footage is amazing.

Thank you ! It was shot with the 25mm 1.7 and kit lens! Amazing video! Really inspiring... You mentioned the 67mm K & F concept ND filter, is there a reason you listed 67mm? Did you step-down the filter for a specific reason, or did you mean to say 58mm? You also linked 4 step up options, what exactly does your usual setup look like? With step ups? Thanks man! Following your stuff now.
@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
Thanks! So my setup is essentially this for filters on my lenses: 1. Step up ring 2. Mist filter 3. Step up ring or Step down ring 4. ND filter Essentially I suggested the K & F 67mm as it's large enough to avoid vignettes when attaching on either the kit lens and 25mm for the G85. It's also a budget but solid ND filter to start off. You could get the 82mm for the K&F ND filter so you could use that on a full Frame lenses if you plan to upgrade to a full frame camera in the future, but I think at that point I would upgrade the ND filter. The mist filter I would probably get at 82mm as i think the output quality is similar as the higher ends, hence the option to do a step down ring if you get the 67mm K&F ND filter for the G85. Oh also, just make sure the mist filter has threads in the front so you could put a step up ring or step down ring there if you plan to put the ND filter in front. Or if the ND filter is same size as the mist filter, then you can skip the rings and put the ND filter directly on top of mist filter Hopefully that made sense! And feel free to ask any questions, happy to help wherever I can 👍🏼

Ya for sure! and yes I would say these settings would be good to shoot for a wedding. You could also do 4K 30fps if you want a bit of slowmotion, or even use 1080p 60fps for more slowmotion. But it's up to you how you want to do your weddings. I would just do 4K 30fps (dynamic moving broll shots) and 4K 24fps (for tripod speaking moments + still broll shots). Typically this would be good in outdoor settings, given the lighting. When it gets darker, or indoor area, be sure to have enough lighting to work with

I think I've answered this before so I'll copy and past it here! Hey there, great vid! But just a noob question 😅 I'm new and just trying filmmaking since I've got my 14pro. I'm browsing for a 'proper entry film camera' but really on a tight budget. I'm looking at G85 as a good option. But I've searched that the Iphone can shoot 4k at 60fps and can slow it down smoothly on post prod. I can see that the G85 only allows up to 4k at 30fps. Is there much of a difference when you try to slow it down on post prod or do you have tricks to do it or do a work around it to get a proper smooth slow-mo edit? Also, would you be able to suggest some entry film camera for me please? 😅 PS: Your videos looks really cool 🤙🏼
@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
Thank you! And all questions welcomed, so dont worry about it 👍🏼 So 60fps and 30fps is a good difference as it's double. There is slow-motion plug-in in after effects I believe called timewarp which can mimick slower frame rates. But I wouldn't personally use this option as it doesn't capture it as good as just shooting it in 60fps. The G85 does have the 60fps option in 1080p, and I've mixed that into my works with my 4K, and when I render it all out in 4K , it still looks great! Another budget cameras would be Sony a7ii, but to be honest, the Sony lenses would be significantly more expensive, but you could go with third party lenses Not sure any other cameras outside would be fit as you mentioned you were really tight on budget. But hopefully this gave you some insight! Let me know if you have more questions 😊

I just got the Panasonic G85 and was looking into the ND Filter from K&F. I'm using the 25mm 1.7f lens. Do I need a step-up ring and if so, which one? Still decently new to videography and don't know a whole lot about ND Filters yet, hah. Thanks in advance and very helpful video!
@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
Hey! I actually answered this previous but can copy and paste this here. Hopefully it explains it, and if you have further questions, just let me know! So the 25mm I believe has a 46mm filter thread size, so you'll need to get a step up ring from 46mm.
@KairosJN
@KairosJN Год назад
@@TheCommodoreProductions thank you so much for sharing an elaborate answer! Helps a ton. I think you're right as far as upgrading goes and a 46mm to 67mm step up ring should last me a good while as I'll be familiarizing with the G85 and 25mm lens for now. Again, thank you!

Thanks! 12mm would be your widest angle for the Panasonic lens line up I believe. The kit lens goes 12mm, and I think that's sufficient enough, but then again, it really depends on your projects you plan to film

Hmm not sure, normally with lower aperture you can have more "brightness", but since you are comparing a non native lens to a native lens, it would maybe be different. Sorry wasn't able to really help you out much on it, but do follow up if you find up about this as I'm also curious

Noob question: can you use you variable ND filter with the mist filter?
@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
Haha not a noob question at all! So you can stack on filters on top of one another. The K&F doesn't have a thread on the top of it i believe, and I'm not sure with the tiffen for the mist filter. I have the NiSi mist filter and that had a thread on top of it, so I can stack it with a step-up or step-down ring + ND filter or directly with an ND filter if the size is the same. I would contact the sellers of the filters to see if they have the thread on top for you to do so, or check their description of the product

Do you think this camera is good for run n gun low light concert situations for capturing videos?
@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions 9 месяцев назад
I would say no, since focusing manually by using the quick focus button might be hard and also the grain since you will be dealing with low light and have no choice but to bring up your ISO. You could bring a light, but again it might be limiting to your shot distance then. It's doable but will be difficult. Definitely consider a camera that has good low light capabilities when it comes to this scenario, especially since it's an event and you need to capture quick moments, and with the G85 that will be difficult to do so

@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
This lens is also amazing, but at $700 usd, I think you should consider if you're upgrading your camera within the panasonic line and if you are staying in micro 4/3. At least if you make this lens purchase, it would be worth while as you can continue to use it beyond the G85, as it's an entry film camera. Also on the side, the G85 for photos - it's not good, as the megapixels aren't that high on it, so I don't see it as valuable to have this lens given the price as it can only serve me for filming. I would just rent it to use occasionally, but other than that, I wouldn't buy it unless I am sticking within Panasonics Micro 4/3 line. It's a great lens along with many in Panasonic, as I've tried different ones, but ya this is why I didn't include that and the others.

@TheCommodoreProductions
@TheCommodoreProductions Год назад
the only reason I stick with Panasonic is that native lenses tend to do better than non-native lenses on this camera, at least from my experience. In particular, this is referring to the manual focusing method I talked about in the video, where I utilize the focus button or touch screen on an object, and it'll be faster to focus in on in contrast to a non-native lens. But that's from my experiences so far, and my purpose for this camera is an "on-the-go" type of shooting, which might not be necessary for everyone
