The dimensions comparison was fantastic. The g9 and g9ii is so close and people have made such a song and dance about it!

Thank you, Marlene. The new G9 Mii is ABSOLUTELY so much FUN that no one cares about the size except people who own other camera brands. No drama necessary-just get out and shoot. I’m getting shots I would have missed in the past so I am really excited to see what YOU do in the coming year. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and process. 🤩

Hi Marlene! Hope you're having a good day today 🙂 Yep, got my G9ii last week, and now that I've got it set up the way I like it, my only practical difference is a better hit rate through the lenses I already love. I'm keeping my G9 as a backup. I'm planning to sell my old G85 towards a discount on the 2.0 teleconverter for a tighter shot on my 50-200 lens on the upcoming solar eclipse.

I bought a used G9II a week ago. It feels very comfortable. I bought a 100-300 LUMIX lens, and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I can rarely get birds in flight on my full frame Sony A7IV with the Sigma 150-600. With the LUMIX,I got seagulls and geese in flight with 1/800 I’m learning I can use slower shutter speeds with this incredible IBIS. My only wish is for animal detect in S&Q 120 fps. It works in everything under 120fps. I love slow motion squirrel footage.

What I like about the OM1 is that, if you do have a long tele lens, you can add the battery grip, which gives you a better grip but if you are using primes or any other smaller, just take the grip off and you have a light compact body again. Besides the better grip for big lenes, the batter grip gives you more shooting time. Very versatile system!

Hi Marlene, another great, informative video. I’m very happy with the size of my G9. I did try the G9 II for size when it arrived at my local camera shop (I was researching some Sony full frame options.). I also looked at the S5 II, which is about identical in size to the G9 II. About watching your comparison, I’m more inclined to buy the S5 II as my next Lumix camera, to get the advantages of the full frame. I will still keep either my G9 or probably my GX9, but reduce the number of lens that I have. Happy New Year! -Marty

I don’t think it’s the weight that most people are concerned with. It’s the fact that Lumix has repurposed the shell for a S5 II. Don’t get me wrong, I get why they did it. To save costs perhaps or to maintain a continuity across the model line up. But it just feels sooo uninspiring. The G9 felt like it was something substantial, this one feels too watered down….meh. I feel that as a successor to one of the most storied cameras in their lineup, Lumix haven’t really hit the mark for me(strictly design wise ofcourse). All subjective I know, but that’s just the vibe the new G9 II gives.

I chose the original G9 over competing models from Oly primarily because I find Oly (and Sony "FF" bodies, BtW) too small. The G9 feels so comfortable and secure (even more so with the battery grip, especially with bigger lenses like the Leica 100-400). The superior ergonomics (physical and logical UI) are an added bonus. I just hope the G9 II feels as good, as I plan to get one soon.

@@ImageMaven Thanks, GTK. I've gotten used to the grip on my G9 as it's on there almost all the time. It would be nice if they'd offer a package deal as the grip's overpriced at US$350--too bad the old one won't fit the new body. My other essential accessory is a deeper eyecup--the EC4 for the G9 I blocks all ambient light in landscape and most in portrait, but there doesn't seem to be an OEM option for the G9 II (or even the S5 II, which I assume is the same). I suppose it doesn't matter so much if you shoot with glasses...

I came to the G9 ii from the G95. It is bigger & heavier but with the old 100-400mm is actually more comfortable. The main difference for me is fitting it in my camera backpack. The G95 fitted very snugly with the big lens & just doesn't quite make it with the G9 ii. It's ok with my other lenses though.

Yes, it definitely takes up a lot of space in the smaller bags. I tend to carry my camera out when birding (always be ready) around my shoulders and keep a small waist pack for snacks, water and a short prime lens, just in case I come across a lovely landscape. Enjoy your new camera!

Sell the G9 while you can. OR keep it for those situations or travels where the PDAF or new subject detection is not a concern. Hi Michael. I would say it depends on what kind of vacation it is. 1) Exotic locale with interesting sights - G9 or G100 with a sharp zoom lens. 2) Family and friends vacation in an urban area, or in a high theft area, or backpacking, lots of walking etc - G100 with fast sharp prime or kits lens - tuckable inside your jacket. In urban areas I don't like to be noticed with a "big" camera or lens combo. Your thoughts will vary to mine. But I'm cautious. And as a woman traveling alone I'm extra careful all the time, even in my own city!
