LUMIX G9ii is the BEST Travel Camera in 2024

Oh it depends on what you are needing (your uses) and what you are willing to take with you. It is mostly photography I do, with just a few simple videos, and for travel I take the G90 rather than the G9 because its that bit smaller and lighter and meets my needs. I have a G9 which I use for other scenarios but for travel I prefer the G90.

Point 1 size is debatable. It is one of the most discussed issues when this camera came. It is a camera more based to Photographers then Videographers in m43 format, so the discussion was why so big? Why using a FF body for m43? Is this the path to go for m43? So point 1 is debatable. M43 from OM Digital Solutions like OM5 and OM1 are smaller. The others points like features are indeed strong points. Also stabilization is a strong point. You didn’t talk about the most important feature, which is price.

Thank you for the video. G9 small business user. For me personally, the M43 provides a step up in capability over the iPhone and hybrid cameras, especially for fast primes. The big missing feature is larger use of continuous electronic zoom or at least more steps. Even if the feature was highly limited to for instance 4x3 format or 1x1 and 1080 and just a few of the high end primes. I know that real pros cringe at this concept but for small business user like me with the 42.5 PL, I could just add the PL 12mm and pay for the software feature and be happy enough for a small business website or YT / IG. Probably sounds odd but the web store only accepts 1x1 format anyway so much of it ends up like that. I end up reducing the file size 10x anyway for posting. Unlike the real pro users, I don't do any corrections and 8 bit is just fine. When I need a pro quality video version of something, I will bring in a real pro for all kinds of reasons far beyond the equipment but that isn't a daily thing.

The G9 was my favorite cameras ever but 1,800 for mii is a lot more than I would expect to pay.

Who told you youtube guys to call the g9 a travel camera? You all say the same like panasonic briefed you. I use g9 für all of my professional work just like my gh5 before. Gh5 was considered a professional hybrid camera, g9 is better in everything but is now degraded as travel camera?

Tough one really. I think the size of the camera is actually too big for travel, I've taken the S5 with me abroad and I just felt like the body was too big to be taking around all day. I'd consider OM-5 as the perfect size for travel. The M43 lenses will save you a ton of space though which is valid. Lumix easily has the best stabilisation and V-Log is super easy to grade. Video shooting modes are super impressive too. I think the G9II is the flagship M43 camera. The camera that can do it all, but it is it's size for me that makes it less of a travel camera and more geared towards a the ultimate hybrid. Great vid man 🙌🏽

Sold my G85, 8-18mm, 35-100mm, 12mm. Used the money to buy a barely used Sony A7iii ($900) + used Samyang 24mm f1.8($200) + Tamron 28-200mm ($450). Covers all my video, astro, portrait, landscape needs. Full frame camera and lens for less than the price of a G9ii. Smaller too!
