Great video! Thanks a ton, loving the settings you recommended, and I also feel like I understand my camera a little more now. Excited with what I can shoot with it now
Smart choice to force the camera to use the video and stills setting separately, that’s basically what the Canon R8, R5C, etc. switch is for. Canon fanboys are so happy about that switch that’s not necessary. LOL!!! Also, spinning the dial for ISO helps with working faster. I personally like to set my right dial press for waveforms/vector, and my left for histogram. My up is set for focus peaking, and my down is for operation lock to avoid accidentally changing settings when working in a hurry. Thanks for the two piece of advice I mentioned earlier. I didn’t know those features were there because I overlooked it. This camera is so packed with features for the price. It’s such an underrated camera.
Thanks for this video, as a new S5IIX owner, it's been super helpful. I do find myself lamenting the blacked out top dials on the X. In low light, I have a lot of trouble seeing the markings.
Great content as always. It's amazing how many features Panasonic really packed into this. Especially when seeing Sony is now charging a $150 upgrade for frame markers lol.
Incredible video, I just rented one of these (S5iix). First time using a proper (non-iPhone video camera). I’ve got an all access press pass for an upcoming show across the Atlantic- camera arrived just days before, and between getting the necessary attachments (mics, cages, etc.) I’ve had very little time to actually get acquainted with it. This video has really helped fill in the gaps - especially the tip about the frame markers for 9:16- open gate being a primary reason I opted to rent this camera. May end up buying one if I’m pleased with the results, it’s between this one and the black magic 6k which lacks autofocus. Super clear, massive thanks!
@@mediamannaman yes it went well and I’ve since bought one and used it to shoot another show in Denver end of last month - I’m actually going to be uploading some footage from that here hopefully in the next couple days. Will update here so you can see how it came out. First gig was in Bristol, UK and I was sort of figuring out the camera on the fly, these more recent shots are much better but still need to improve my technique. I had rented a Leica 24-90, though now I’ve purchased a LUMIX S Pro 24-70 & S Pro 70-200 both f/2.8. Shot in 6k opengate editing has been a dream.
@@JurassicTrance Super! Happy to hear you are satisfied. I just ordered one yesterday to get ready to make RU-vid videos. I already have the 20-60mm kit lens, the LUMIX 50mm f1.8, and a Sigma 14-24 f2.8 since I already have the original S5. I’m anxious to start working with the S5ii. I’ll be on the lookout for your new footage!
Thanks. I made the mistake once of shooting photos in v-log (I was shooting raw). When I imported the images into lightroom and applied my regular preset to them, they all came out the same as if I had shot in any other photo preset. Thanks again.
A very good and practical video. I face one problem though: I assign two buttons just like you do, frame marker and E-stabilization and that works fine. But I switch off the camera the assignment is gone! Can you help me with this?
I am connecting the Lumix S5II to my Macbook using the Lumix Tether app to MacOS devices with an M1 chip. Although the app connects to my Macbook and allows camera control. But I cannot use it as a webcam on Zoom, Teams, Riverside, or other virtual camera applications. The Lumix S5ii is not recognized, and I don't see any option to select the camera as a webcam. Your insights into this matter would greatly benefit users facing similar challenges. Thank you for your time and consideration.
I noticed in one of the shots at 1:23 there's quite a bit of moire on your blue shirt. Have you noticed moire as an issue with the S5ii ? I didn't see it any where else in the video so wondering if it's only an issue under certain circumstances / shooting modes?
Glad I found a creator that understands that just because you CAN customize everything doesn't mean you should. Customizing pre-labeled buttons seems like sheer insanity to me.
Fantastic video. Im wondering if you have any paid 1 on 1 zmsessions you offer? Im currently is Sacramento, and i have this camera. Im looking to realky start my journey in photography and video production.
Im not sure if you know the answer to this.I recently upgraded from the gh5 to the s5ii. When i rec audio, lay it on the timeline. It sounds fine. But, after I export my video, the audio is nothing but a buzzing sound. Never had this problem with Gh5. Idk if it's something in my settings that needs to be changed or what.
Just got mine, and I must say there are a TON of options on this. I can see I'll be learning for months! My other camera is a nikon coolpix from 2013, so I'm used to using that. This is like david and goliath without the slingshot!!
Is there any way to shoot both JPGs (with LUT) and RAW (in V-Log)? I have managed to shoot with both files, but the RAW files looks like "standard" picture mode. Great video - thanks for explaining so well!
Unfortunately you can only have jpeg with lut applied in camera and separate underexposed raw file without any color corrections. I would love to have properly exposed raw when shooting with real time luts.
Seriously? That is the deal of the century. The S5ii is truly the best video camera for the money. I don’t think anything can touch it at double the price. - Congrats.@@nicktheavatar_
My last camera was the G7 and there is a lot of content for it out there but I was soo limited with that camera.. now I own the S5ii and I couldn't be happier.. even helpful videos like yours popping up hehehe
Thanks a lot for this comprehensive guide for video shooting. I am not an expert, but looking at the photos you shot...it seems that my S23 Ultra shoots better pictures 😅
Interesting that you chose Human instead of face/eye in the detection settings. Human does do eye tracking, where face/eye does both human but also face and eye when it is detected.
Creativevideo Combine Set - game changing nugget from this video. I am guilty of accidentally taking pictures in Log when I got back and forth between video and photo 😅
When I first got it there was a noticeable delay. Then I know they had a firmware update addressing it but never tested it again, so I’m not sure if it’s resolved.
HOW can i DISABLE completely the rear shutter dial? I thought other people were just throwing in a token complaint when i heard about it BUT it really is bad. Needs to be completely disabled. Panasonic just can't get it right. The GH5 had that DISPLAY butten in the worst position NOW they have the shutteer dial sitting out there in a terrible spot.
On your recording quality on the 6k open gate you quick saved shooting at 24 frames per second but when you went to the 4k you quick saved 30 frames per second… why on 4K did you not save 24 frames per second?… is that because if you’re shooting in slow motion 30 frames is half of 60?
Why ever shoot in 24 fps? Your computer monitor has a 60 Hz frequency, and 60/24 is not an integer so that mucks up motion. Your phone also refreshes at 60Hz or 120 Hz. Your TV at 60Hz or 50Hz. Unless your videos are projected in movie theaters, 24 fps is not a good choice, leaving aside it limits the ability to pan smoothly.
Lumix desperately needs some pancakes for the L-mount. 28 and 40 pancakes would be perfect for travel for this camera. The current lenses are not compact and are heavy to carry around all day.
@@arielish4214 have the sigmas, they're still a little big and heavy. Sony has some nice small primes and canon has that 28mm pancake. L mount needs at least one pancake (28 or 40) for street and travel.
Real time lut setting is bit useless for photography when applied with custom lut. It applies it over vlog which makes everything overexposed. I shoot raw on card and jpeg on other. Only way to use real time luts is to apply them in my photo styles. This gets close to fuji experience but still not as versatile and faithful to film recipes.
@@dorta1812 Sadly most of the free luts are shite. Way oversaturated, over the top. I even bought some and they aren’t great either. Nowhere near Fuji recipes. If community would develop something that is close the Fuji recipes I wouldn’t mind even paying. So far I couldn’t find anything resembling anything close to them.
