LUMIX S5II! THE REASON WHY I LEFT CANON

They hadn’t even been in my consideration list until now. Best of luck with the channel and keep creating. You’ve got the chops to really do some numbers.

I left Canon too mainly because of their cripple hammer and just the way they design their product lineup to be more focused on upselling than making enjoyable products. Look at the r8 for the perfect example - they sell you on it having uncropped 4k and 40fps burst for $1500. Sounds great on paper but when you dig into the specs - the mechanical shutter is only 6fps, it has no IBIS so you're going to be cropping your video when you apply warp stabilizer or you just can't even use it hand-held without a gimbal or rig. It's got a tiny battery that does after one hour of video. It has record limits you wouldn't even hit without external power. Then they sell it with an absolute garbage lens that alone is like a massive middle finger to their fans. Want a better lens? well you can grab an affordable 24-105 f7.1 on the long end (like is that a joke?) or spend $2500 on an arguably very good 24-70 to put on your $1500 camera or It's like "pro performance but oh we're going to give you only one SD card to make sure you won't use it for pro work." Then Panasonic is here and gives you all of their latest features at the lower price with hardly any compromise. You get 4k 60 cropped but you get 4:2:2 10 bit, you get open gate 6k, you get dual card slots, a 3.6million dot evf, they even give you features like synchroscan, and the best ibis on the market. As you can tell, I'm a little jaded.

Yoooo….congrats on the purchase. You got great imagery from the R6 and the R3, so I have no doubt you’ll get some fantastic footage out of the S5II. Can’t wait to see what you’re going to create.

Agree 100% I love this camera. One thing it is important for people to know that the new PDAF does not work at full frame 48/60/50/120 in any resolution. To keep PDAF you either have to shoot 30fps or under at full frame or APS-C mode wich will allow PDAF to work at higher FPS. Not a deal breaker for me but people that shoot a lot of slow motion should take note.

You are so easy to listen to! Thanks for your thoughts on this. I've been bouncing around between getting an FX3, FX6, Canon C70 or the S5ii, but I was thinking I could get two s5ii cameras for the price of one Sony FX3, so that I can capture two different angles on my next project, which will be a short doc (which I will shoot myself rather than hiring a DP). I currently have a G85 which produces a lovely video image and I do enjoy the image stabilization.

Out of the excellent review video, your one sentence caught my attention that was "I just don't like the look of Sony" that's 100% true. I love Sony products but in cameras way back I was Yashica guy but now, I love nothing but Panasonic Lumix.

Surprised you didn't pick up an R6ii and swap your R3 for a c70 seeing as you were already in the Canon ecosystem, but I hear you on all your points. Great conversation/video here either way!
