I really like how the first rock monster broker free of the cliff. That was a well done effect to blend it all in to the landscape like that, so it was invisible until it moved.
Oh, my God! If I hadn't seen it for myself I would never have believed it. But great fun all the same. Modern sci-fi movies take themselves far too seriously.
When Lido first appears, does anyone else think of Rosalind Russell, in "Auntie Mame"? You can tell the Moon Maidens are pageant winners from the walk and the smiles! And I am getting " Endora" vibes from "Alpha"
@@dianabeurman364 Reading your comment, I suddenly remembered the bit in the Lucille Ball version, where Mame is sitting on a crescent moon swing, while Vera Charles (Bea Arthur), sings, "The Man in the Moon is a Lady". So now I'm getting Rosalind Russell and Bea Arthur vibes (The Lido has that Vera Charles style hairdo). Lord, my mind is as twisted as a pretzel😉
@@albertrandall2271 I did know the actress wasn't Rosalind Russell, but if you had not made your comment, I would not have thought of this :" You asked for it and we made it! 25th Century - Fox (they made a comeback) proudly presents: 'Auntie Mame on the Moon!'" Thanks for inspiring this thought, it will keep me amused for hours!!😀
Whoa! A real stinker from the '50s. This was drive-in movie fare, where nobody actually watched the movie...unless you were a real loser. (Okay, for those of you too young to know about drive-in movies and bench seats in cars, we were "making out".)
It's like they found the worst script, the worst actors and the worst special effects to make the most entertaining piece of crap ever to successfully entertain an audience... so bad that it is good 😊
In 1958 I was 5 going on 6 and the Mercury program was still in the planning stages. But looking at this I had NO IDEA we knew next to NOTHING about space travel, space suits ,weightlessness,a blue sky on the moon etc. Almost like the.makers of this film deliberately overlooked what we already knew.
Ahhh yes the good old days when beauty contest winners were immediately allowed to try and become famous movie stars > 1:00 Apparently perceived good looks and good acting must go hand in hand ask any man 😂 "Miss New Hampshire" "Miss Yugoslavia" 😂 Best thing about this movie is the relevancy inducing colorization and the haunting music.
Was deprived of this, when I was a little boy. As I don't recall any, of it. Finally saw it, last year, but not in color!!! The color version, is so much better☺️!!! I know the main, older actor (Dirk), is from another, sci-fi/horror movie, titled; 'Phantom From 10,000 Leagues'. And the 'good guy', younger actor (the escapee) played a teenage Frankenstein in, 'How To Make A Monster'.
.............I always thought an update of the Rock Monsters would be great in another updated space movie with good graphics. The idea of the cliffs becoming the hidden monsters is such a great idea. Talk about never feeling safe taken to the extreme with the surface of a planet being the actual monster.......guess i'll have to do it myself, i've been waiting over 65 years.
01:16:07 And the winner is..."For the best portrayal of a burning skeleton"...the award goes to..."GARY!!!" (Instant THUMBS UP!!) Chebus...what an awesome stinker of a movie!!!

And when they got back to the space-ship, the dead body of Dirk was decomposing on the lower level. It would have been a better ending if they had somehow taken Zema back to Earth with them.
However, having watched a little more of this, I would give a positive vote for the practical effects. Much better than your typical 50's or 60's scifi.
The little guy seems to be reading a script meant for Jimmy Cagney, I'm waiting for " why I auda", I like old Sci-Fi movies but this is like some crappy daytime soap opera , I could spend the day picking holes in this rubbish..but I'll leave it alone because it seems from the comments some people enjoy this sort of thing..🙄👽
65 years ago, I'm sure this was highly entertaining. Today however it's almost unbelievably hokey. The cast isn't bad. One wonders what they might have done with a better script.
As it happens never viewed this film previously. Those rock type creatures easy to out pace. Some scenes moon re when Earthlings made captive somewhat thought ok etc. Alpha female with her takeover methods suchlike ok too. Tad more than expected film was. Music also fair I'd say. This sci-fi is ok out of 5 stars I'd give it leastways 1& a half stars, not bad.
Хорошо, что тогда не снимали про мужиков в красных труселях, одетых поверх трико и в резиновых перчатках для мойки унитаза.... Ни каких геев и лесбиянок. А просто - КИНО!!!!
Eight international and US beauty contest winners? I'm watching it for the good looking dames! I love how the fate of earth is in the hands of a guy named Dirk. Love all the romance and kissing in these old sci fi movies.
