(Visit: www.uctv.tv/) Born in San Francisco, Robert Haas is a California poet but his poetry, translations, and essays reveal an intimacy that transcends the borders of states and nations. With his direct clarity and promotion of literacy in "places where poets don't go," he served two years as U. S. Poet Laureate (1995-97). His numerous books include "Sun Under Wood," "Time and Materials," and "The Apple Trees at Olema: New and Selected Poems." Hass's numerous accolades include the MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, two National Book Critics' Circle Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize. Robert, it is so painful to hear the last poem end. He is gazing into forever, and we want to stay there with him because he helps us, allows us to see forever through his eyes, through his poems. But then the poem ends and then the poet dies and you read his poem and we are there beside him again staring into forever, whenever the poem is read. And I know that I can replay the poem and be with him and you gazing into forever again reading after reading for as many times as I want that the reading and the poem never have to end but they do and so I am sad and he and you are gone. ah grief, sing again sun rise again spring come again, again, again, sing a lullaby rocking back and forth day and night and forever. Thank you for forever Robert.

So sad for Christopher who didn't listen past the 2nd poem. I have met and learned from both Milosz and Haas. They both show us the most amazing worlds. I hope you wander back again to hear their priceless stories and poems.

I'm no poet, but I know when a dude should not be reading poetry. No matter how many volumes he's written, man that was pathetic. I listened to that whole introduction and shut him off two poems into the reading.
