Love how you take the time to do things like this! It’s becoming way too common (at least in the USA) for people to any ride their horses and then get upset when their horses can’t do things because they aren’t strong enough. People think that lunging properly, pole work, etc. is useless because “they aren’t being ridden so how are they learning”. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Really useful video! My horse tends to be very spooky around poles and canters over them instead of trotting or going over them in a walk. I hope by doing these exercises, that it will help him to find his way

Thanks for this video...tried this for trotting poles with my sensitive lad and he did really well....helps having those poles placed at the start and end

what about the chicken? I was waiting to see her to be in the arena, maybe as an extra challenge over pole!

I know this is an older video so I hope you see this and maybe answer... how long is this workout session? I know it depends how I shape your horse is too but, what’s your rule on it? I want to try this with my horse, and I know this might be more work than say a riding session so I don’t want to potentially ask for too much... of that makes sense!

It does all depend on the horses workload and fitness at the time, I would say maybe 10 minutes less than the time you ride for? I usually ride my horse for 30 minutes ish when schooling/ poles.. but when lunging over poles I would do about 20 minutes , 10 minutes on each rein including all the warm up, and cooling down. It really does depend on your horse and how much work they're usually doing, but i thought I'd let you know how I adjust timing for reference :) Also, the horses usually let you know when they're getting tired and had enough, if they're starting to trip over poles or look like they're getting tired, then they've usually had enough and might need to cool down.

it depends completely on the fitness of the horse but around 20 mins I would say with lots of walk and rest for the horses would be suitable, and not working over the poles the whole time.

It think it’s also depends on how much the horse is having to think and learn new stuff . I do 5 mins warm up, 20 mins work, 5 mins warm down

Why do you lunge off the bit rather than use a well designed cavesson?
