I grew up on LUPE. I went from bumping Food & Liquor as a child while in the car with my mother, and her stating "You like music with a message. I like that as well." . Then The Cool dropped and it played out my life. I was really searching for The Cool. I died in the process back in March 2023. I was hours away from being pronounced dead from an accidental Xanax overdose. I have a lot more to say, but I must restart this "song" soon. My mother died when I was just 19, I am now 32. I know she's in these headphones as I play this song. I know she is happy that I am practicing sobriety. I know she is happy I am still listening to this type music. .thanks LUPE
"They just try to slow us down like instruments in Texas" Lu referencing school calculators while also referring to chopped and screwed music which originated in Texas. Dude is a lyrical miracle 🔥
Texas Instruments also made CPU processors not just calculators. So another way you can look at that line is they trying to throttle us. You used to have to throttle their chips because they would overheat.
“Reverse Aztec put my heart in the verse.” 😵 the Aztec used to hold rituals in which they’d cut out the hearts of their sacrificed victims. Lu’s stating he puts his heart (life and soul) into his music with that 🔥 verse.
Man…..man…….I’m 30 now. Been a fan of Lu since the 6th grade. Those chills I used to get to his wordplay I still get em lol. Lu always been one of a kind lyrically. Always will be MY 🐐
I don't know how many bars just went over people's heads, but this is The Cool Lupe, yet again. This is one of the best raps he's ever written. Those bars, especially in the 3rd, are just pure analogous insanity. Jesus Christ.
Lupe is the only rapper that still raps the exact way he did when he came out in 2006 with food and liquor that’s why I like him he’s still speaking intelligence and knowledge to alot people in the black culture he’s still positive rapping
“Lookin' for somethin' heaven sent, like it's medicine in the moon Or intelligence in the heaviness of a tune How much your song weigh? Thirty pounds for every entendre So the playlist will still be heavy as a spaceship on a spaceship Even though it's weightless A bar full of plates so a waitress weightlifts with every single entree Contray to what the pawn say, swan slay with every convey If words were rocks, birds in flocks, stop that's not the chess of the experts That's a straight rookie move To get close to the DOS, I fed 'em bread first” As I keep going over these bars, I uncover more and more punchlines. Lupe is GOAT-tier, man 🔥🔥🔥.
As a lifelong fan, im just enjoying the diversity of sound Lupe is producing. He has 100% control over his creativity and its been fun seeing what hes been able to make with that amount of control
Have to love and respect that he realized the value of that control from a young age when he easily could have played to whatever angle they were pushing had fortunes more in a worldly sense, but the integrity he kept was worth a million fortunes more and he still never felt off because his fans had his back all along. Lupe isn’t just an otherworldly hip-hop talent, he truly as walk the walk and talk the talk start to finish and is a leader of our generation! 💐👑🤴🏽
It must suck to rap better than everyone else and not get the recognition. Lupe is levels above any rapper in the game! Now I have to listen to this 10 more times to get everything! Shout out to all those who appreciate real lyricism.
This song is dope and Lupe IS at the top level but to say he's so many levels above everybody else and that nobody else is at his level is just asinine. Maybe nobody else you listen to or know of but trust me there are multiple handfuls of others with lyricism and delivery at this level. Expand your horizons my friend. I can drop names if needed but this is just objectively not true and shows the limits of most people's scope of real hip hop. There are plenty of incredible lyricists out there you just have to find them.
@@AnonymousBoss1 the pyramids and triangles in the video are references to Jay-Z’s record label “Roc-A-Fella” which the title of the track obviously also references. But you are entitled to believe in whatever conspiracy theories you want to sir.
@@ZEC020 bruh..Im not against Jay-Z , but im gonna let u know there is satanic lyrics in one of Jays songs. Its alright because you will absorb the subliminals they are showing. Lupe IS talented but there is by a FACT SYMBOLS AND SUBLIMINALS dont be blind my guy!
Lupe is the show that continues to go on 🔥 I remember being in middle school listening to his music on the way to school...now I'm older still listening to his music on the way to work 😆 he's one of the few artists that bring me nostalgia. He's who you listen to to jump start you on a Monday and end your day in ease on a Friday 😌
I first heard this on RU-vid music 10 minutes ago but I had to come here because I had to say how absolute goat levels this tune actually is. That second verse hits different. Protect this goat at all costs.
You are a genius the lyrics are the truth. What black man goes through on the daily. You mix the political w the realities. I am 64 watched Hip Hop come to be. Some of the greatest lyrics, music & dance of Hip Hops in last 50 years. It has melded into the fabric of world societies. Very deep & true. Thanks for all your intelligence & truth. Thanks so much for being you. 🙏🏿❣️🙏🏿❣️🙏🏿❣️
Truthfully, I was okay with Lupe not dropping music for a while because DMIZ is still being played daily. The fact that he’s casually dropping 🌊 records has been a gift from somebody who doesn’t have to give us anything. Thanks for the art 🎨
Lupe does it again that’s why he is one of my favorite rapper ever because he’s always been positive and spit knowledge and wisdom and intelligence to black people in the black community 🙏🏾
“Put variables in my dataset and then I deviated. It’s miricles in the dataset. It’s like I DBA. It’s TD Jake’s without a CPA I used CTA.” Those bars alone make me appreciate him as an artist.
Every few years, a hip-hop song comes along where I obsess on the lyrics until I know them by heart; This is that song. I can already tell from the first listen. Absolute masterpiece.
Real HipHop is suppressed. I'm so happy this dropped. 🔥. I saw Lupe Live in Downtown Portland years ago and he basically was like yeah...I can't rap what you want me to rap. And rocked the house with the songs he could do. I always appreciated him keeping it a buck 💯 about his legal and contractual limitations. First and Fifteenth Forever.
Came because I remember superstar from my youth being an absolute banger. I've grown into hip hop as I've grown up but not been listening to Lupe. This is real hip hop. Flow lyrics and melody all on point 🔥
The very last day I was deployed in Baghdad. The day my unit flew to Kuwait, to transition back stateside. Was the day the album, "Food and Liquor", was released. Fortunately the main PX on camp Liberty had received copies of that album. It quickly became the soundtrack to me returning home. Almost serendipitously, his album, "The Cool", was released the day I shipped out for my tour in Afghanistan. This album would serve as the sountrack for that entire deployment. The world was very different back then, and I would never be the same. 1st & 15th #FnF
