A search for new rock to throw my lures off led me to Fast Castle. It was a couple of hours drive and a very sketchy approach but the fish made the trip worthwhile. My video shows every fish landed (and lost) that day. Hope you enjoy it.
The cod were caught OTD, near the bottom (approx 18m) and the pollock with lift and draw just above the kelp. All fish caught on the Prowling Shad again.
Rod: Major Craft Concept CRS 802 PE
Reel: Shimano Technium 2500 (old one)
Braid: G-Soul WX8 16lb
Leader: 12lb Fluorocarbon
Weight: 14g Cone
Hook: Jacks Own 1/0 offset
Lure: Jacks LRF 3.5 inch Prowling Shad
( jackslrf.co.uk/shop/index.php?... )
Sorry for the 90's dance track, it was the only tune long enough in my library. :-)

Slippy Limpets this is in the uk right? I don't see many of our fisherman using lures. I'd love to give it a go my self do you think location matters?

Hi, Slippy! Thank you for your advice! It helped med a lot! I got my first sea fishing rod and reel, SKR-782LL (5-20g) and '14 Caldia 2508H. I am trying to get used to my new gears since it is pretty longer and bigger compared to what I have used in fresh water. Also, I enjoy reading LRF magazine you linked for me. I appreciate it! But some of technique is a bit hard to understand, expecially OTD. It seems very important for pollock fishing, but I need to study more about it. Using new long gears(for med, it is long), I realised that I need one more tackle which is a lot lighter than 782LL. I usually go 5 minute walk to the small harbour. It is not a big mark, just 5 meter deep and I can meet small pollock(30-40cm), wrasse and mackerel. I use under 1/8 oz jig head with 2-3 inch worm and can catch them with retriving action. But it feels that my new gear is kind of over tackle for this delicate fishing. Here are the rods I am considering for new one. Major craft skyload SKR-S702M (0.5-5g) SKR-S732M (0.5-5g) SKR-T742AJI (0.5-8g) The thing is that I have never used a solidtipped rod. So I have no idea how it would be if I go with one of solidtipped rod. Could you please help med to choose a new rod? Thanks!

This is the video I watched the most in your RU-vid. You in this video taught me a lot of things about pollock fishing. I am from Korea, and was a largemouth bass fisher, but now I am living in Norway. There are plenty of fish here, especially pollock and wrasse. But norwegians just fish them with the super heavy rod and metal zig. I have just caugh some of pollocks with a straight worn(weightless rig or jig head) and I was lucky to catch 72 cm pollock with 662ml bass rod, 5LB fluoro carbon line. But my tackles brought from Korea got out of stock and ordered from Korea some tackles that is similar to yours. Normally, I cast the lure, and wait til it gets to the bottom and lift and falling, wait, sometimes twitching or just slow retrieving.(it is just like bass fishing) And most of pollocks I caught hit when the lure falls or is retrieved. However, I just started pollock fishing a month ago, and I am very curious about how to give an action to the lure. I can guess how you do from the video, but it would be so nice if you give me an explanation shortly. I am just about to buy new fishing rod for pollock and wrasse. It is Major craft skyroad SKR-782LL. (2.34cm, 103g, light rod, lure 5-20g, line PE 0.6-1.2, Regular-fast action) I know it is kind of light tackle(it is more like light rockc fishing tackle), and it might be difficult to land big fish. But I enjoy daily fishing around my house(I live in Bergen) and like a light tackle. Do you think it is enought to fight with over 50 cm pollock? Please be generous with my long reply and thank you so much for your teaching.
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 7 лет назад
Hi, thanks for your great comment and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. It's difficult to explain in words but hopefully you'll find my reply worthy of your comments. First of all, I'm very envious of your location, I'd love the chance of catching a 72cm pollock close to my house, not to mention the jumbo sized cod and coal fish you have over there. I tend to have to drive for a couple of hours to find decent fish. From what you've said it seems like you have the most of technique, experience and kit nailed and are already catching pollock on light tackle. You asked "how to give action to the lure?"; the simple answer is that it's the lure that provides the action when fishing with most soft plastics (i'm fishing with a shad/paddle tail in this video), I just need to provide trajectory and forward motion. It's not so much like fishing with hard lures/plugs when you normally use the rod to make the lure work properly. On these deep water marks, I tend to concentrate on the sink rate of lure and try to keep in contact with it as it descends. Knowing that pollock are near cover/bottom, once my lure splashes down, I leave the reel bail arm open and trap the line against the spool using my finger and then let line out slowly until my lure is either taken by a fish or it hits the sea bed, meaning i'm always in contact with my lure. This also means i don't loose the distance in my cast, due to the deep water and i can cover more ground while keeping the lure in the kill zone. If i've not caught a fish OTD then I start to retrieve with Lift and Draw technique you are familiar with, after a while, i'll open the bail arm and allow the lure to sink slowly again. And, as you've said and from what you can see in this vid, it's then that the the fish tend to take the lure, OTD. I close the bail arm and lift into the fish. I hope this helps a little bit but i get the feeling you're doing great any way. Also, if my ramblings above don't make much sense then reading through these 3 publications probably will. It's what I read to get started and still use issuu.com/jerseybassguides Tight Lines!

hah in same boat! I live in Brum :( used to live in Eastbourne fishing every day (well when I could ;) ) but now nothing! but alas I am going to cornwall just for sea fishing with my brother on bank holiday but have no idea where to fish. I can see that fishing off the rocks is great for Pollock bass and wrass in cornwall but it all looks sketchy to say the least :( dunno if I want to take the risk considering brothers just died a few months ago in cornwall fishing off the rocks but you gotta go where the fish are I guess. I have found a few spots but no idea if they are any good :( google maps makes it look ok hahaha I bet it aint!
