Nice video. I'm from your neck of the woods and also fish there and have had big perch. The one thing I would say to help the fish recover is flatten all your barbs - it doesn't take forever and the hook comes out istantly.
Glad you got the set-up back from the depths. Some cracking Perch...and that Pike...nice...made a nice change to see you in the kayak and on the river. Enjoyed watching...cheers and tight lines.
Thanks Adz, hardly got out on the yak last year but going to make more of an effort to do it this year, and hopefully on the sea. Still might have a trip or two for pike, come the summer. Cheers and tight lines👍🎣
Just got to see your video now.some stinkers there.well done on retrieving your rod .nice to see the kayak again.great video nath.cheers and tite lines as always.
Some seriously good perch there Nathan. Ready to spawn by the look of them. Great species, the secret is finding them. If you get one there's probably others in that location, they tend to shoal.
Thanks Richard, that was the word I was looking for, too used to bass schooling. They were a really good size but rumour has it that they can get double that size in this particular loch.
Great to see you getting in about some fish this time, getting some cracking perch there 👍 There's some monsters in there, I've had a 4lb'er from one of the rivers adjoining the loch
You lucky man Nathan, fantastic perch though , however lovely to see you back in the kayak hopefully that means you will be on the sea soon, can't wait for that. Regards 😎
Some lovely stripeys there Nathan. Perch are quite a fragile species, I would recommend using a landing net and resting them especially if you’re bringing them up from deep water.
Thanks John, it's that type of information that you don't pick up when researching online. I'll remember that for next time. BTW, I must be catching up with your PB stripey now 😉
@@SlippyLimpets Diversifying from just trout to sea trout, mackeral, bass and to perch and pike have opened up fishing in virtually any weather for me.
We call redfin perch here in South Australia. They a noxious fish. So bag and size limits are not included. We are not aloud to throw them back. But i can tell you they are the best tastings fish around. Really good with panko bread crumbs. Well done 🎣
Quality over quantity ! Some very good perch there, in fabulous condition. I used to fish St Mary's Loch for pike and perch and, if you can find them, there are some cracking specimens. I hate rod and paddle leashes, but they do have their uses... :)
I fished St Mary's once a few years back and caught nothing but trout on crankbaits, lovely place to fish but a big piece of water to go searching in. I hate them too, can be dangerous if you tip thankfully this was the first and hopefully last time I knock a rod over board
CRACKING PERCH, SMASHED MY BEST, AND A NICE PIKE... COULD OF BEEN A EXPENSIVE DAY OUT AGAIN, WHERE WAS YOUR CLIP TO THE KAYAK 🤣🤣, OR COPPER PIPE INSULATION.... 4:22 AFTER YOU KNOCKED YOUR ROD IN, WITH YOUR PADDLE 🤣🤣 JUST TO YOUR RIGHT, UNDER YOUR PADDLE, WAS THAT THE REEL POPPING UP, FOR A FEW SECONDS, WAVING GOOD BYE 🤣🤣... SORRY FOR LAUGHING, YOUR FACE WAS A PICTURE, WHEN YOU REALISED... GLAD YOU GOT IT BACK... ANOTHER EXCELLENT VIDEO, STAY SAFE
Haha, not a problem, we have to be able to laugh at these things. yeah, I loved seeing the penny drop when I watched the footage back. I don't like using leashes, they just get in the way and are dangerous is you tip over. A float is a good idea though.
Personally I think tethers are a doublebedge sword, they stop you loosing tackle but if you tip your kayak then tou can get caught up in them. This is the first time it's happened to me in 10 years of kayak fishing so I won't be buying any. A bit of pipe lagging will help kep your rods afloat if it does go in and save the saftey issue
Glad you got amongst the fish, hopefully the weather improves enough for mento get back out on the rocks soon. I've been enjoying this fresh water angling but not as much as I enjoy the salt.
Thanks Keith. Unfortunately I snapped the butt off this particular rod need a replacement before I can put it through it's paces off the rocks. My gut feel is that it'll work pretty well, it's pretty pokey compared to the earlier version.
You're not the only one that's lost then luckily recovered their rod from a drop...! Did just that not that long ago! Just Off Newbiggin though, but in 80ft of water! 🙈
Brilliant perch, did you weigh or measure it? My best was 2 lb 12 ozes and had an imitation sweetcorn on a very rusty hook in it's mouth attached to a 1 ounce lead and 4 feet of thick line. I removed the hook and cleaned it as best I could, it swam off OK. Thanks for sharing, take care, stay safe, Norfolk Ray
I got a measure on it at 38cm but it was fat, I guess it could have been over 2lb. Well done for cleaning that fish up, it was it's lucky day when it took your fake sweetcorn. Thanks and tight lines👍🎣
It's a bit convoluted but you have to pay for a ticket from whose ever land you launch from. I used to launch at the caravan park but now I bought a year long license for 22 quid and get free access to the slipway
Cheers I'll have to have a look. I'm going to try to get up there more this year with the kayak and an annual launch permit may be just the ticket. Thanks very much and right lines
Thanks Paul, It's a big loch in South west Scotland. I'm can't mention the name because they have trouble with people netting and taking the pike and perch
