Matt Knudsen this was a couple of years now but I know the spot is approx 33ft depending on water levels. Typically I would run the bait between 2-6 feet off the bottom on this venue, which would of been the case here but there will be days the fish will be actively feeding in the top 10 feet so never discount fishing shallower. I would much rather my bait was 6 ft above a feeding pike than 6 ft below 😉
Matt Knudsen ressies can be challenging not least because of the low stock of pike and the high food availability. Add to that they are usually large, deep and relatively featureless and they can be a proper challenge. However, to go with that they can also be very rewarding. Also don’t neglect lures they can be more effective on a doggo pike with a full belly and don’t think you need a large lure either. A 10cm Shad on a 20g jig head can often do the business if your reside is deep
Matt Knudsen sorry Matt, I thought this was a different video of mine you had commented on. This is chew valley. The spot I was on here was only about 10-12 feet. The fish at the begging of the film were taken over weed so I was fishing a swimbait very shallow, maybe as shallow as 2-3 feet. Once I moved I was in slightly deeper water, 12-15 feet with very little/no weed so was fishing the swimbait a bit deeper but on the day the bites were coming in the top 1/2 of the water column.
@@PaulScowen thanks Paul...yeah that was the reason for asking, I had noticed you wasnt really counting down deep before the retrieve. Got a couple of days booked mid Oct on the lures so I will definitely try the upper layers if mild....cheers for the info 👍
