Lure Painting // How To Mix The Bone Color 

White, yellow, and believe it or not, lavender. You MUST try it!! Go very very light with the lavender

For a Pearl Bone I mix 10 drops Pearl White, 6 drops Opaque White, 1 drop Transparent Yellow, and 1 drop Transparent Sand. For a darker bone color I use Mission Models Crocus Yellow

I spray wicked white first, then come back with a mixture of gold and brown so I can control how “bone” I get it. I’ve never added yellow!

Add the yellow in small amounts. Once it overpowers the white it takes a lot to bring it back. I would start over as it's wasting paint to keep adding more and more. Also, use a stencil for the black dot it looks far better.

Nice, very nice. It's such a great feeling to know even the 'Pro-Builders' can have bad moments, I'm trying to get the bad 'day' down to 'moments' 🙄 If my bad moments end up as good as yours I'd be so chuffed👍😷👍 The paints that I'm having problems mixing are the 'Tartan' and the 'Rainbow'! But hey it's all fun at the end of the day... Isn't it!!!

I’m rather new to the game of custom baits with the airbrush so I can’t say much on mixing colors. But I do like watching the videos and learning how everyone does it. Good looking bait.

Just getting into painting lures haven't even sprayed my first yet still trying to get up stencils and what all I need on a set income lol but I did model cars years back think most just use a three color mix for a boneish off white. A white of some sort (I do like metalics or pearls), a yellow and a light tan to medium tan. Some then top that with a glaze or mix in a irredecent like you did for a light color shift. I have a similar take on the bone color. White, yellow and a drop or two of sepia and adjust as I mix. Like you, I pretty much make just about everything from jigs, spinnerbaits, chatter baits and about 200 other different rigs and accessories. I also have everything for soft plastics but for me, I’m having issues. Can’t quit get the hang of it but it may be the plastisol I use

I just started painting lures only have done a few still getting some kinks worked out For a bone starting point which is one of my favorites I do 3 drops metallic black 1 drop of transparent yellow 18 drops metallic white or pearl get it grey with hint of yellow and then adjust from there to what I want ( I’m colorblind so it’s a real task to blend colors)

I haven't tried mixing the bone color before. You've got my interest with that one though. Great job as always.

I use 10 drops of white to 1 drop yellow. When done painting I use one coat of Minwax polyurethane clear gloss. This gives a nice tint

I use ivory with 1 drop of yellow for bone color.

I use createx opaque white and a khaki color I got in a camouflage kit. Makes a great flat bone color. If I want it to shine I mix instead of the khaki a few drops of createx pearalized copper and a drop of sepia if it needs to be darker.

Turned out nice. I just use pear white with a touch of brown.

Awesome info as usual buddy Mine is pretty much the same few drops of yellow in white and I add pearl and little gray I keep mixing till I'm happy

Hey man! Just started binge watching your videos for ideas for my own lures. I think I'll be mixing some blue and pearl white for sexy shad pattern soon and I'll be layering some clear acrylic (I think) with really fine yellowish to chartreuse color shift glitter over solid black on the back, it gives really nice yellowish tint to that black and just brings out color shift so nice. Will also use hair brush for some black stipes that slowly fade down.

Your videos are getting me into lure painting! Tried hand painting some lures recently and wasn't able to get a clean bone color using a pearl white and a sand color. Looking forward to learning more through your videos!

I just use white with a touch of yellow But I like that sand color. I’ve never used it. The bone you made looks great.

I use more white, gold and tan for my bone color

I like my bones almost white. 4 parts titanium white, 1 part transparent yellow, 1 part India ink flesh tone. And, as my own special twist on it, I mix blue interference powder into the 2-part epoxy I coat it with.

I use Vallejo ivory and sand, it makes a nice bone color. I do about 10 drops of ivory to 1 sand, too much sand will make it more tannish. Ivory itself is pretty close to a nice bone color.

You should do salmon gear. Spin fish, super baits, kwikfish, cut plugs.

I use white(opaque) with hints of metallic silver, sepia and yellow

I had the perfect bone color mix years ago and never have been able to duplicate it, white yellow and pinch of grey, maybe one day I’ll get it right lol

I mix I flat light orange, pearl white, and light brown

Ive mixed it before with just white and a little bit of a golden yellow.

You should try Tim Gore's Bloodline line of paint form Createx Illustration Colors and the color is Bloodline Old Bone White

The Bone is a perfect Hawaii reef stick bait. Everything will smash it, it looks like the Oama. Papio candy. I go to Petco and go theough all their chew bones, Bone is a hard color, I tried to get round rubber sili legs for my bonefish ties, but they are clueless as to what "Bone" color is it's either to yellow or too white.

was just curious how much do you thin your paint and what psi and needle size do you use.

I'd pass on the iridescent. Other then that the color looks good. But that's just me, and I know nothing. Looks good

What kind of clear coat do you use with airbrush I just got into airbrushing. Could I brush on polycrylic by minwax since I have a lot of it already or is there a better solution to clear my lures

Great video first time I have seen a bait painter explain the mix for Bone and your mix is a very nice shade of Bone. I have tried mixing many different recipes and finally was able to make a decent Bone. I used the createx wicked pearl white then added a couple drops of a lite buttercream and a drop or two of a light grey.
