This video was awesome! You describe and speak on magic and the techniques/strategies to each deck so elegantly. Your cadence and expertise on MTG makes this both an enjoyable and great learning experience!
@@JStack Compared to the guy who lost so many matches before the video he needed to set up a friendly match where his opponent/friend just lets him get the combo off?
Hi CGB! I know this video relates to other deck, but I'd like to thank you. I've been struggling to move to Platinum level this season but recently I've starded playing with your deck (the one with Karn and parhelion ii) and wow....it is a lot of fun and I quickly move to Platinum...very effective deck even against gyruda combo. Thanks again. Huge fan of your decks and playing style
I have only been playing the game for a couple of years. Watching your videos has taught me to be reactive more than anything. Great decks by the way. I'm not outstanding at seeing the potential in a group of cards rather that individuals.
You're way to resistant at casting high cost spells; you definitely needed to cast boon of the wish-giver at 33:36, you needed the card advantage, and you refused it. You still would've had the fairies anyway
he missed so much damage too. Sacc kroxas 2x food swing with cats, 1 gets through other 2 are blocked and die, bring them back with kroxas foods. Thats extra 6 damage he missed cuz he couldve done that twice. With the mayhem devil out and pings to face thats easy game. Guy had no idea how to play that deck edit: also the second deck, the guy at 38:24 let him flare him in the face instead of just killing him in response, jeez these people suck
Nice deck! But I think you underrate Ominous Seas. You draw 2-3 cards each turn with this much cycle cards, which gives you a 8/8 every 3-4 turns even if you only have 1 out. Imagine you got 2. Nice vid anyway, keep it up :) Edit: Played a bit around and replaced Healer with Splendor Mare and Stinger with Yidaro and added Zirda as Companion. Like it very much :)
Lets be honest we all love cycling videos this is just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I love when I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist I love like Delta Parole and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.
Been playing the R/W version for almost a week and loving it. Need to aggressively mulligan for fox and or stinger. Healer normally gets cycled away unless its against mono red or cat oven, but you can still out race them with t1 fox, but watch out for claim the firstborn. That card hits all of this decks threats. Love to grind through control decks. Had a drag out match were I worked my way through 3 vetos, all 4 shatters, and 3 mono blue Narset's. Cycle a bunch of cards while Narset is on the stack to draw a second Flare, then Flare for 22 on my turn, they counter it, and then flare again for lethal.
Glad I'm not the only one who sees that. Now I just need to find someone else who thinks The Elderspell is a wizard hat and not Dack Fayden having his spark harvested.
@@chiknsmack I'm sorry I don't really see a wuzard's hat for the Elderspell, although I can understand why it may look like it. For Valiant Rescuer I was so confused when I first saw the card, then I realized it was not what I though 😂 but on Arena, with the small cards, it still very much looks like a man carrying a dino boy 😂
I've been having a great time playing cycle control. Replacing some of the 2 cost cycles (like ominous seas) and putting in x4 of Quench, Neutralize, and Ionize and 3 Expansion//Explosion.
I've actually been playing the draw two pyromancer in my cycling deck. They are very good at dealing with creatures and if you dont need to deal with the creatures they can go face.
I've been running a jeskai cycle recently and it's really fun. I think your deck is lacking some key cards such as Irencrag Pyromancer and rielle, the everwise. These cards combo extremely well and would benefit the deck as you could hurl a fireball at something during your opponents turn. It also allows you to pop off your improbable alliance during your opponents turn. I run the Royal scions draw four with boon and use the scions ultimate ability to draw another four and smash people in the face for at least 8. That's really fun 😄
Zirda as a companion is a nice alternative to Lurrus that synergizes with cycling. Since cycling is a activated ability, Zirda's passive reduces all cycling costs by 2 mana to a minimum of 1. The restriction that all cards must have an activated ability doesn't hurt this deck either because you're playing cyclers anyways. Makes the 2 and 3 mana cyclers more useful when Zirda's out. You can also still run this aggressive shell and play Shark Typhoons over say Wish-Giver or Healer to get flying sharks when you cycle to maintain pressure (it's cheap too if Zirda is out). That aside, similar to Lurrus, Zirda's a nice medium body to have on the board and in your hand for free basically.
Yo, some suggestions for the lifelink problem. You can take splendor mare (if you are okay to let go off the lurrus) and when you cycle it you give your drannith stinger lifelink.
I love this deck! Losing Sharknado for Lurrus sucks but I think it's worth it. I've been running Neutralize as I haven't found the 8/8s from ominous seas that important or impactful vs when you need to stop a Gyruda or a Winota
What's your oppinion on the boros turbo cycling deck? It's basically the same deck, but without improbable alliance and ominous seas and instead with the cycling handhate spell and frostveil ambush and footfall crater. Your play very few lands 16-18 and the plan is to maybe get some early threats like rescuer, fox or stinger out and from that piont cycle through your deck until you draw 1-2 zenith flares to finish the opponent.
I've played a lot of that version and it seems a lot better imo. The deck struggles most vs aggro, and as u saw CGB was forced to play a lot of shock lands and the triomes, all of which are horrible vs aggro. Plus, the blue cards in no way help vs aggro anyways. It just seems like blue is in there to help an already good matchup, the slower decks, so it's pretty unecessary as it hurts the deck more than helps.
I play the cat oven but I'm free to play and already invested in my priest set up so only needing a few cards, why not? I feel bad to be a hated deck but I hate so many decks and mostly play jank unless ranked. For me oven is slow when prompt for other player takes too long, I know all time adds up but the deck is faster to play than against a counter deck. It's odd to be the hated deck player for once.
@Corpsefoot Gaming I have never jumped on the mono red side, I truly can't, unless krenko or jank. I hate perfect sequencing more than net-decking when they get that 1 card then that other card in that perfect order.... RAGE
I'm climbing up the ranks with my jeskai cycling deck. I'm on platinum now and it's been pretty rough. There's a lot of sweat when you reach this point and it's been up and down. But now I'm glad to be currently on a winning streak. Hopefully will reach mythic this season 😊
I think Cat Oven would be improved if we didn't have to choose WHICH of our Food tokens to sacrifice. It's arbitrary and it an extra 2 clicks per cycle. I'm usually not playing Gingerbrute and Golden Egg to go with Cat Oven 😂
29:40 I'm sitting here murmuring "Play the other Improbable Alliance and cycle to get 2 faeries per turn, they can't kill an Enchantment" like a mantra.
I was surprised to see Lurrus rather than Zirda, but I suppose you'd need more expensive cycling (or other activated abilities) to make it worth it. Spectral Sailor works well in my Zirda/Ominous Seas deck.
Glinthorn buccaneer is a more resilient creature that gives value to the discarding portion of this deck's strategy, if you're willing to let go of the companion. And maybe a "one-of" Heartwarming Redemption to added life gain. Great deck though, really enjoyed the content.
I beat a Gyruda Deck with this, they kept milling me, and when it was my turn, I caused 18 damage to face....... with all the cycle cards in my Graveyard...
With core 2021 released, I'm curious about what people think about trying to integrate a Teferi's Ageless Insight into a cycle deck. Gaining card advantage just from cycling seems really powerful, but at the same time, 4 mana feels like a large investment and pretty greedy for a deck like this that tends to swing so low with card cost, especially in a world where mystical dispute exists.
The pyromancer that deals 3 whenever u draw 2nd card a turn is really good. Other than that, just the 6 mana white dinosaur that cycles (u'll rarely play, but if ur just RW might as well play it over non colour cyclers)
Re not having enough removal: I run 2 light of hope for reclamations and fires and 4 blitzes for everything else. Saved my hide a couple of times. (I play at diamond level). Plus, I do not run ominous seas, it's just too slow. Only hard matchup is lurrus rakdos, since dreadhorde butchers almost always have 2-for-1 and priests. Luck on the draw plays a big part in those matches.
Do you think Improbable Alliance is with it over another cheap cycler, or even Yirada? I feel like Yirada is a better “win more” option and another cycling card to go with Zenith Flare, which is the main goal of the deck.
I think casting boon of the wish giver was the only chance of victory during the mono red game. It would have triggered the improbable alliances just as well as a cycle would’ve + maybe could’ve given you a body as an extra blocker.
What about putting Irencrag Pyromancer instead of Ominous Seas(more useful on a Rielle focus deck)? It's kind of a removal/aggressive option, or at least a more reliable blocker. I would also substitute a couple of Boon of the Wish-Giver for Frostveil Ambush, both have cycle one, but the last is faster and could be used to avoid 2 creatures attacks and 2 blocks. Love your videos :)
Can someone please utilize Omnispell Adept now?! I’ve always wanted to use him and, although it’s not the greatest card, I’ve been using him in my temur fires deck and tutoring for an ultimatum with Fae of wishes and casting it at instant speed. I realize you can just use teferi but again, I’ve wanted to try the adept and it’d be cool to see him get some play before rotation. Give him a try cgb!!
This deck is amazing! Are there any matchups that you can't win if you draw the right cards? Zenith Flare is incredibly important to the deck though. I'm not sure I appreciate those moments where you just need to hit Zenith Flare and you win. 🤔
I feel that for big control deck is very difficoult to lose against this. They only need to clear board and counter zenith. With jeskai I've always won against cycling
Aggro's pretty rough, especially with a version like his with 0 good removal. The rakdos matchup has been one of the hardest for me. Priest, claim, cat & oven all destroy u. So I teched my sideboard to deal with aggro. 3 clarions, cheap removals, the cycle card that destoys artifacts for their ovens. I have 2 shocks main also, which help a lot vs aggro. Playing Lurrus vs rakdos is also very risky as they can claim it, use it to bring back something (even an oven u destroyed earlier, how annoying!), then sac it.
I hate to be that guy suggesting cards, but I would've expected Neutralize to work its way into this deck to counter Gyrudas, Winotas, and all that jazz.
This guy is amazing. I have a request : Vadrok. Pls a competitive deck with vadrok apex of thunder. Or if somebody as a link for one , link it down below. Thanks in advance
Just play 4 zenith, 36 1mana cycle cards and 20 basic mana... Use the cycle ping creature of the fox on the first turns so they grow or deal damage and that all... End with flare... Never lost... Maybe 2 fable passage for deckthinning but thats all You need...late game use Your 4draw spell and keep cycling untill lethal flare
The deck is very viable at high ranks, even if you control out the aggro you just eat a huge zeneth flare. Narset parter of veils is the only good counter.
Catoven decks are tricky and difficult to play, and that guy was the proof. You can't just slam things on the ground and attack like white weenie or monor, you need to know how to play Magic. This is why I love this deck (in the real world, on arena is a true pain).
Is there any reason (other than the Lurrus restriction) we don't run the big 8/8 turtle? cycling cost is only two and it comes as a potential threat in the late game
@@Wizardofexisting Is it though? I would disagree for this deck. CGB barely uses it, and you WANT your cyclers in the gy for Zenith Flare. If you could cycle from the GY, that'd be a different story. I think it's just there cause the deck operates fine without Yidaro, but personally, I'm running Yidaro instead of the Improbable Alliances. Still unsure which is better.
Sean the only drawback I can see for running yidaro is it doesn’t go to the graveyard for zenith flare. Otherwise, I think it would be better than the alliances. Especially since you’re churning thru your deck a lot any way it’s more likely you’ll get that turtle on the board
Probably if you want to keep the blue only Sharknado is worth, removing Lurrus. Otherwise just go Boros, remove the 2 mana cycling and forget about casting the blue spells. Much faster and reliable.
I have a Rakdos Amass deck with Ozolith that is fun jank. Maybe a pro could make something of the concept but I think amass is doomed to be an underperformer
I'm trying a list so similar with a Typhon and Zaida as a companies n. Try it cause lands there's so good to cycle on one. And Zaida + typhoon is too good
