I'm 72 and blown away! I thought this was a new group playing on 91.3 the Summit, here in Ohio. Discovered a lot of new sounds and groups on the channel. I may be 72, but I'm NOT old! I know what it means to be young, but, the young don't know what it means to be old (yet!). Anyway, I found the lyrics and I'm singing away! love Love LOVE Luscious Jackson Naked Eye! BOOM! Just An Old Hippie from Woodstock, New York!
Hi, welcome to the L.J. Party Plane! If I heard the Lyric properly, then according to the song, 'Naked is a State of Mind.' I think the same can be said, in regards to age! My Mother is 73 and we watch/ listen to a lot of the same things. I was in my late teens, when this song was released. I got into Luscious Jackson, after seeing the video for the song 'Here'. The song was featured and a part of, the soundtrack for the movie 'Clueless' starring Alicia Silverstone & Paul Rudd, in his first movie (he was also in Halloween 6 But that came out 2 or 3 months later.) Have you ever seen, 'Fast times at Ridgemont High. ? That one has the same director as Clueless, Amy Heckerling and there are many similarities between the films. Check them out if you get the chance! They're both a lot of fun, with great young actors, music and memorable scenes! Cheers from Montreal Quebec Canada.
@@TheSleepingonit Until you think to Google something and then remember it doesn't exist yet. There was great stuff. but there was also an absence of things I really wanted but which didn't exist until later.
RIP Vivian Trimble! She’ll live forever through Luscious Jackson. This song is a masterpiece, probably one of the most haunting melodies of the 90s - a decade that was full of them. There are a small handful of songs where the melody makes me so emotional I get a lump in my throat, and this is one of them.
She was certainly a very talented keyboardist, and it was a damn shame this band did not become iconic of this generation. She will forever be remembered.
Luscious Jackson being escorted by Max Perlich, who was a cast member of "Homicide:Life on the Street" at the time, through what looks like an airport, but was actually the inside of one of the World Trade Center towers. THAT'S how 90s this is.
He was also in gleaming the cube with Christian Slater. If it is the twin towers, the fact that all those airplane pilots are in there with the plane sound at the end is definitely weird
The music was so diverse. You had everything from folk to rock to rap to R&B to soft alternative to pop punk, and weird pop songs like this one. Soooooo many unforgettable songs. Not to mention the times were just better to live in.
Hi! I saw them in 1997 in Athens, GA. Such a fun concert. We had a blast. I have no idea if they came solo or was touring with others. I was just there for them. =-)
I remember hearing this song when I was a little girl. It was playing in the car while my mom was driving and it was raining outside. I was too little to know who sang it or the name of the song, so I spent years trying to find this song with no luck until literally 10 minutes ago. I am so beyond happy I've found it! When I think of the 90's, this memory and song pop into my head.
as a 90's kid, I love this song. I gotta confess whenever I walk in an airport to catch a flight , I had this song playing in my head while walking towards my departure gate.
I just love this song. I'm living in NYC for a couple of years and I thought, oh, maybe Luscious Jackson will play while I'm here. I had no idea Vivian passed away. Cancer sucks!
Anyone who grows up in a certain era will have a strong feeling of nostalgia for that period. I grew up during the 90s, so this music made a strong impression on me. Plus the ladies of the 90s made the best music :)
Nostalgia is very real. It's also possible for it to be true that some time periods are better (more enjoyable) than others. That's the fun analysis and debate isn't it?
How the fuck does this only have 2.7 million views? I remember that summer when you could not turn on any radio without hearing this absolute banger of a song.
I hadn’t heard this song for almost 30 years. I know the last time was in the early 2000s most likely. But the brain remembers. So the other day I heard in the the Venetian in Las Vegas while I was sipping my coffee about to go into work, I immediately took out my Shazam app and it detected it. Now watching the video I’m like omg this used to be such a banger back then! I remember hearing it on the radio so many times and my brother and me singing it. Great memories I’ll always cherish! 😊❤
I vividly remember sometime in the summer of 1997 laying in bed late one night, dialing through the FM radio hearing this song drift in and out from some distant radio station, ah I miss those days 🙂
(rolls eyes) to clarify, the artifacts are vintage and the costume designs are highly reminiscent of the 1960s, when jet travel was still a very new, exciting yet affordable way to travel, while the music is purely 90s. But thank you for correcting my error, a comment that was meant to be whimsical.
This song haunted my minds ear for 2 decades before Google finally spit the answer at me when i stumbled over the correct lyrics. Kudos '97, you captured my heart.
Wow. It's funny how a song can take you right back to memories from the past. Was a young man turning 21 when this came out. Such a different time back then.
Lucious jackson is a part of my childhood and still a part of me to this day.. RIP Vivian.. you were and still are a definition of cool.... you and your fellow bandmates. Naked eye introduced me to lucious jackson and im thankful... cause from this i discover songs like city song and most importantly take a ride.. a song i still reccommend to this day and will forever play.. the perfect song for any moment in your life.. a song that deserves to be played anytime you drive home late at night.. that song is magic
I loved this band… I saw them live twice in the 90s, and they signed my CD of theirs after a show. I listened to this CD and the one after it all the time in my car driving to and from work. Ahh, the memories.
Yes, I LOVE this little gem. In fact, the album, Fever In, Fever Out is EXCELLENT! !!! The early 90's through the early 2000's was the last era of great pop music in ALL musical genres. I love Jill's haircut in this video. Thanks for the memories!!!!
I haven't heard this song in decades, never thought about it or really even remembered it. It somehow just popped in my head randomly while I was driving. Funny how our minds work.
I was on it. Heard one of their songs when I was working at the local community radio station the week it was released and bought the first EP the next day
oooh i feel old lol. high school days for me. ridin out skippin class barefoot to the beach flip flops at best, a lil green and a slurpee..ft.Lauderdale. beach all day yes!
I used to feel that way, but forward (however dark and dangerous) is the only way to shake the nightmare of our current scenario. I guess I'm one of few people that doesn't get more conservative as they get older. I get the sentiment, though.
Pablo, as you have likely suggested, we only have our day. People ask, "How're doin'?" I often say, "I woke up..." And we take it from there... I'd like to think "conservative" is not a ethnicity, culture, or path forward; it's only a sobrique... Very cool song, though. Excellent vid. I don 't watch vids much, but this is one of the best. Well, this last month...@@pablodelsegundo9502
Was pulling weeds in my garden today and out of the blue “Luscious Jackson” came to mind. Pulled it up on and wow I remember lovin this way back. Hadn’t heard it in years! Now it’s on my favorites play list so I don’t lose it again
I know this song from a skateboarding video I got at some local shop ("Hardcore" in Scheveningen, Netherlands) where I used to buy my skate stuff & clothes around 14 years old.. I remember a friend was severely obsessed by the track and found it at the local library where you could also also borrow CDs back in the day before we had internet :) Ever since this song always gets stuck in my head, it has this 90's magic.. along with Drinking in LA and many of those mysterious weird music from the USA that I tasted through MTV or stuff like skateboarding videos ♥ (I think some "friend" stole the actual video tape from me, but I found it it must have been "411vm issue 21", funny thing the full vid is actually on youtube 😅)
Still remember from 7th grade and in my class of 200 I was the only one jamming to this song yet my classmates would always poke fun and say don't you have taste and I said yes I'm listening to them aren't I, every time In my Walkman I'd walk away jamming!! Love this band always will 💙❤️🙌
@@erichatfield2939 It's like when I was telling my dad 10 years ago that the 90's were amazing, and he responded "No, they weren't", and I immediately just turned to look at him directly and said, "Well, of course, you would say that, because you were in and out of jail the whole time -- for ME, it was my childhood, and I'll never have another one. The 90's SHAPED me." He was salty that I was that blunt about it, but he didn't argue back either. But the POINT is -- NO SHIT if you made shitty decisions in the 90's, or ran with the wrong crowd, or had a shitty marriage; if your personal situation was in any way awful , then yeah, OF COURSE you're going to want to blame the whole decade for being shit. But I am telling you right now, that if you actually had a healthy lifestyle, then you would have actually been able to enjoy the beauty of the pop culture during that time, and appreciated how _special_ it was -- because once the 2000's hit, and Bush became president, and 9/11 happened, EVERYTHING went to shit. So if you were actually around during the 90's and were unable to appreciate what an awesome time period you really were in (for whatever reason), I am honestly very sorry for you.
@@jenya-was-here awesome response!80s n 90s def shaped me and I always listen to my faves every day! Keeps me happy n level headed. How cant you love the music of the 90s? Jenn n paul xoxo
Interesting fact: This video was shot in the New York World Trade Center (made to look like it was an airport -mostly with extras carrying suitcases). It's also based on the movie "That Obscure Object of Desire".
+Leo LionHeart the 90's were great, but the early 2000's was the rise of Bush and 9/11, when everything started going horribly wrong and all the 90's stuff died.
+ytubeanon things weren't perfect, but being a teenager/coming of age in the Clinton-era '90s was a pretty good deal. I imagine that's how early Baby Boomers (white ones, at least) like my parents feel about growing up in the '50s--mid '60s. Ike & JFK did right by a good number of average Joes & Janes in America.
Songs like this always reminds me of how awesome and diverse the music scene was in the 90's, all music was big and rock had hit a rinnessence of creztivify starting with the Seattle bands.
Great ! One of my favorites ! and My favorite song off the Fever in Fever out album . There's a few different versions of this song ...I have them all Maxi CD's a blast from the past !
Man this one really takes you back to the glory days of the 90s! For those of you that didn't get to experience the 90s, don't feel bad because I didn't get to experience the 60s, so we're even!
I was born in '60, so I got to do kid 60s with Motown and first British wave. The 70s were Meh with disco but great for R&B/Funk, the 80s were so awesome with classic rock/new wave, and the 90s were killer with grunge and alt rock! Everything started to slide downhill after that. Not sure if it's because I hit 40 or if synthetic music took over and the raw talent just wasn't there anymore. IMO today's 'sound' rarely moves me. It's re-imagined covers, looped, unoriginal, and sometimes unintelligible. Sure miss the good ol' days!
This reminds me of watching MTV with my dad. We watched this and next was Sheryl Crow every day I s wandering road. It sums up some of my early womanhood. I loved bothed songs so much
I have always loved the music that these women created. I bought Main Ingredient decades ago and the second one when it was released and I've never stopped playing them! Thanks ladies!!!
@@kathrynmcelroy5658 the word ‘selective’ in the phrase ‘selective memory’ refers to our innate tendency towards biases that distort our perception and judgment. The worst moments in life are also ‘selective’, such as traumas that bring up hypersensitive triggers. In judging works of art, one must detach from one’s own biases and understand accept the work of art for what it is. See Oscar Wilde, Heidegger and Kant for more on that.
This takes me back to the 90's, an apex-level epoch back in the day when vanilla MTV still aired music videos/dope cartoons and pop music had not yet been homogenized. Where's a hot tub time machine when ya' need one?
With my naked eye I saw all the falling rain Coming down on me With my naked eye I saw all If I said it all, I could see Last night I came into your home To break some ice and throw some stones I asked if we could be alone I had some troubles of my own Knew I had to say goodbye To all the old things held inside If I let the moment fly I knew they'd all be magnified With my naked eye I saw all the falling rain Coming down on me With my naked eye I saw all If I said it all, I could see It's not a choice I tried to make It's not a thought I couldn't take Something told me it was time To give you yours and leave me mine My vision started to be clear I watched the sunlight coming near I knew the day I knew the night I knew I could regain my sight And it feels alright And it feels alright With my naked eye I saw all the falling rain Coming down on me (It feels alright) With my naked eye I saw all If I said it all, I could see Came around after dark You are nothing but a lark Know I snuck in like a narc I knew I had to leave my mark Wanted to be satisfied I tried to be dignified Wearing nothing is Divine Naked is a state of mind And it feels alright And it feels alright With my naked eye I saw all the falling rain Coming down on me With my naked eye I saw all If I said it all, I could see It feels alright, it feels alright It feels alright, it feels alright
