YES! First date at this show, she loved the Weezer sweater song, and I had never heard of Lush. They've had a place in my heart since then. Such a great show, thanks for these!
I saw them about 9 months later in 1995, Ironically at another "The Abyss" in Virginia Beach. We had different openers including Scheer and Mohave 3, which was a changed direction musically, from a few former members of the band Slowdive. Amazingly, I met Miki, who came out and talked with my girlfriend and buddy. It was surreal...Because she was so cool, down to earth and interested in mixing with the crowd a bit. Very cool experience. Still super memories of the concert and meeting her that night. They were into it, and had the crowd really into it.
Awesome show i was there after the show stayed to watch lush come out all we saw was miki with matt from weezer holding hands and laughing pretty cool.
Awww. You're bringing back memories. I was at this show and it was hot as FUCK. The AC was broken (again.) Notorious problem with the Abyss. Met Miki and Chris right before the show. Good times.
Phil King: "Miki ́s [bass parts] weren’t so difficult, but I found that apart from “Sweetness & Light” and “Nothing Natural,” that Emma ́s songs weren ́t as easy as I ́d first thought. She had a habit of not using root notes to make things a little more interesting. For example in “Monochrome” the guitar chords are the same for every verse, whereas the bass notes change each time round. She told me that when they recorded it in the studio, Robin Guthrie had asked how anybody was expected to be able to learn it. I had to have it all written down on a couple of sheets of paper, which I would have next to my set list onstage. We would play it for the encore. I remember at one show on the “Spooky” UK tour we came back onstage and somebody has stolen them and we had to ask for them back, which was pretty embarrassing. Luckily, after a few months of playing it every night I managed to memorise it."
