Luther Vandross died in 2005 after enchanting generations of listeners with his velvet voice. In an interview at Sundance about her new documentary on Vandross, director Dawn Porter stops by the IndieWire Studio presented by Dropbox to talk about why he, with his desire to cross racial lines and draw inspiration from female artists, was ahead of his time.

I’m also looking forward to seeing this documentary. It will be so interesting to see how he develops over time to fulfill his dream of being the best he could be in the midst of the time he lived and struggled with his health, weight and life he wanted to live to the fullest.
