What a tragic loss of a massive talent and wonderful person. I wish he had been born 10 years later. He would have benefited from better medicines and or bypass surgery that could have improved his health. Rest in Paradise Luther. I am sure he and Whitney are doing nightly duets in the upper room.
It’s sad that he died only 4 years after this documentary. I wonder what sort of music he’d be making if he was still with us today. His voice is one of my favourites
He had the gift of voice from god. I could not believe that he had a stroke followed by death. Why? God robbed us of such a genius. I miss him dearly. But, they had diabetes problems in the family. Their father died very young from it.
When he sang in the group Change he became immortalized in the dance club scene and R&B scene! Everything after that was legendary. He was a kind person as well.
I love to here him sing “For you to love”. My heart was broken when got sick and passed, he had a gorgeous voice. I play his CD’s when I feel down and they lift me up.

Ray Charles knew Luther was a little sweet! Who cares if he was, he is everyone's favorite sweet uncle!!!! Loved him no matter what his sexual preference! I'd rather have him back now verse trying to figure out what sexual preference he is. Love and miss him so much! He is and will forever be my greatest male artist!
A god given voice,he was troubled yes behind the scenes but there was only one luther.his duets, his timing, his ability to not need earphones to sing along with the band's.missed greatly by all who knew a sublime voice.i only wish I had seen him live.thankyou Mr vandross for the best male voice to grace this earth.

Luther always delivered. Live, recorded, didn’t matter. I saw him on Good morning America doing a live song. 8:00am. Now if you’re a singer you know what I’m talking about, nobody is pitch perfect at 8:00 in the morning. Luther was. He was so Amazing. Still love his music. And one of the things I respected about him the most was his privacy. It’s not everybody’s business who you sleep with. There are things about you I don’t need or want to know. I never bought Luther songs. I bought albums because I knew if he made it, it wouldn’t disappoint. NNNNNNNever!!!!!

So Amazing! Luther was an icon in the music industry. I regret that I never got to see him perform in person. However, I also feel lucky to have some of his music through his CDs and those featured on RU-vid. What a legacy to leave for the world to enjoy!
From the age of 16, Luther has inspired my entire life, no joke! He has gotten me through high school, chef school, and 30 years on my job.. I came across Luther by default, a mutual friend of my brother and I wanted to dub the give me the reason album onto a tape. I had the stereo equipment to do just that. And from then on I was hooked. Watching him on the award shows, the Oprah show arsenio Hall and the like. Buying his albums, and standing in line all night to purchase concert tickets, which were back then 46 dollars. He was and still is my muse. Wanting to create the beauty that he displayed with his music, in my life. He's been my music teacher now for 37 years and counting.. Luther has taught me about the finer things in life, Lalique crystal that he has collected. I own a piece myself. Fine art, scalamandre silk fabric he has used on two of his swivel chairs. Placing cashmere as a wall covering in his Connecticut home, who else would do that but Luther? I can go on and on. I definitely have my 20,000 hours in Luther. He is my hero.
Luther is one of the greatest voices that ever lived R. I. P. and also R. I. P. to people in this video that we lost as well Nicholas Ashford, Gregory Hines, and Whitney Houston.

Luther is still and will Always be one of my favorite artists.....it pays to have parents and family members that played and raised you around DOPE music this type of music stays with forever it's embedded in your soul for life great music like this you always want to hear it you can literally go back to it listen anytime you never get tired of it even if you are somewhere and someone else is playing it you will instantly appreciate it
i could TELL from Luther's lyrics that he was from Manhattan. NO bullshit, man. It's just obvious. the level of sophistication and the HUMOR that is everywhere in his stuff.
I'm from Brooklyn. Born in the mid 1970s l, grew up in the 1980s and 1990s. I knew he was from New York because for one, the New York Radio Stations back then always played the locals but the other reason is his music sound is what was called "The New York Sound" (especially between the late 1970s to the mid 1980s) which consist of heavy bass, synthesizers and strings until the New Jack swing took over the New York sound in the late 1980s, but his lyrics? I never thought of that.

@@amazing50000 also a concerted effort was made to tie Luther to the advertising industry which is Manhattan based and were he made loads of money before getting a record deal. The cover photo of the first album is not a glamour shot, it's not really a fashion shot and it's not a sex appeal shot. If you ask a commercial photographer they'll tell you instantly that it's an industry shot of the post war school and specifically of the 1967 to 1979 school of teasing humor shots. I noticed it immediately and then discovered that CBS had actually done a radio promo heralding Luther as the voice of the ad industry. Photography can tell you loads of things and thats why cover shots are carefully chosen.

Wow where do I start with this ultimate singer ? It’s hard to believe that as I’m doing this comment the great man has been gone nearly 20 years now 😢I remember being at a dear friends house party when early hours of the next morning the music 🎶 went off and it was announced that he had died there was not a dry eye at the party devastated we were!! When we were all in our late teens and going to the soul/funk clubs and wine bars here in London uk 🇬🇧 and in the suburbs we were proper into the Brit funk bands light of the world and incognito , central line, loose ends etc then from across the pond in the USA 🇺🇸 we were treated to sos band Frankie Beverly and maze Curtis Hairston/ bb and q band ,slave, teena Marie etc and then Alexander oneal and this amazing singer Luther vandross!! When I first heard him with change he blew us away and I think he made change also an iconic band as well!! Loved his dance stuff with songs like I wanted your love and the sweetest one sugar and spice etc but my ultimate tune was a house is not a home plus many more !! I’m 59 now and still into my soul/ funk music 🎵 thank you Luther for the memories and being part of my growing up may you rest in eternal peace 🏴🇺🇸🏴🇺🇸
