The best thing about Luther's live performances of this song and many other is that no two performances were ever the same. He had a profound skill for improvising that is still unmatched today. A true legend.
@@JackReacts904 .....it's the NAACP AWARDS....the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION for the ADVANCEMENT of COLORED PEOPLE....to a certain generation of black people...it is an EXTREME HONOR to be nominated....win...or to perform...this video is on the NAACP RU-vid official channel as a symbol of EXCELLENCE....i CRIED when i saw it on the channel....i have seen LUTHER several times in concert...all i can say is....it was....ANOTHER DIMENSION....he SUSPENDED REALITY.....SPELLBINDING...MESMERIZING....
This was Luther honoring Dionne Warwick that night. I watched this when it originally aired. Yes, I am 51yrs old & remember all of these live performances when they happened in real time.😂😂
Luther, Luther, Luther!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 If you haven't already, you should do a reaction to him performing "Superstar" live at Wembley. He and his background singers, which includes singer Lisa Fischer ("How Can I Ease The Pain), basically gave a masterclass performance!!
You’ve just seen one of the greatest live performances you will ever see! The original arrangement to this song is complex, (Bacharach) 🥰 and when Luther recorded it he added to the original arrangement and made it his own. BTW … that beautiful lady the camera keeps panning to is the incomparable Ms. Dionne Warwick who recorded this song in 1964!! She is also Luther’s idol. ❤️
I should really do a reaction to Dionne Warwick singing Stevie Wonder’s “ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE” at her show from the 1970’s. I believe she was in Las Vegas.
....to a certain generation of African Americans...the NAACP...is the ultimate representation of black people in America...and to perform at the award show....was the PINNACLE....also Luther was an emotional eater....so him being slim...is him the way HE wanted to present himself...and the jewel is....the NAACP...has this video on IT'S RU-vid CHANNEL.....
The 80's is a time when you had to be talented in a sense there was no auto tune. So many of our great singers were from the 80's. Just my opinion., Luther, Lisa Fisher, Stevie Wonder, Rick James, Teddy Pendergrass, Stephanie Mills, Teena Marie, Kool& the Gang, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie,Freddy Jackson etc...
He's doing a tribute to Dionne Warwick... she recorded this song 1st... and he is performing a tribute to her... she is receiving an award that night... that's why they keep showing her during the performance!!!! But he had more success on the song than she did!!!
If you wanna see the greatest live RnB performance of all go and watch Lenny Williams 'Cause I Love You' live from 1978 (I think). This is a very very close 2nd though.
@@awparadoxx Yes. Type in Lenny Williams Cause I Love You live in the YT search bar. He's wearing an all black leather looking outfit and has a medium fro and beard. He sings it 100% live and DOESN'T MISS A NOTE. Hits all the high notes and everything. Even add about an extra 3 minutes of ad libs onto it. If you're an R&B fan and you enjoy genuine performances you're doing yourself a disservice by not watching that video. I would add the URL but YT always deleted it.
WHAT'S UP BROTHER JACK. COIN THAT PHRASE SWEAT IN THE FOREHEAD. MONEY 💰 SO NOW YOU HAVE TO DO LISA FISCHER HOW CAN I EASE THE PAIN LIVE? BTW, LISA FISCHER WAS ONE OF LUTHER VANDROSS BACKUP SINGERS SO, YOU KNOW HER PERFORMANCE WAS UNWWORDLY. HONESTLY SHE'S TOP FIVE FEMALE VOCALS
If there was any hell in this song it's out now cuz Luther sang the hell out of this song and Diane Warwick was having a panties off moment, and my briefs were a lil wet after this # so I totally understand 💯👍🏿!
