A feature film or a miniseries about Jodeci would be 🔥A limited series would be amazing as well. We would be able to get their whole story in a limited series.
Jodeci, changed R&B forever. We’d never heard a raw singing group that looked like a rock band. Tattoos and a image unlike no other. R&B groups and solo artists til this day look like Jodeci. Real talk.
THIS. All facts. I say all the time we're STILL attempting to make Jodeci music to this day. But we can't. Because they were so skilled in all aspects that they damn near created their own genre of music. Devante might be the greatest R&B producer ever. I meant every word of that.
@@saj8they’re trailblazers bcuz they were the first R&B th&g group. Devante is a phenomenal musician, their sound is trailblazing! Yes! They’re trailblazers.
Lol, these men were so hot that the male Prison officers in Holloway prison, UK, wanted to ban their music. You'll be surprised how many insecure men join up to work in women's prison just because they think they can get free fanny on the side, with no strings attached.😮 We got to keep jodeci all day, every day, because the governor loved their music too and the jealous officers were told to put up and shut up.😅
80s baby here. I literally watched this all unfold,, not in real time but enough magazines and television docs and interviews and there you go. It was a blast watching them and Mary and ask the artists rise. All of us gen x were slightly suspicious of puffy. Not at the outset but years into his career.
Devante's genius was derailed. He is a GENIUS. People tend to overuse the word, attributing it to basically anybody who's successful in an industry. But Donald Degrate, Jr. was an INCREDIBLE musical visionary. His music lived and breathed. I can't adequately describe how good he was. I hope he heals and comes back in either R&B or gospel.
Dude. I wish more people understood this. It’s impossible to describe the extent to which he COULD have taken over the millennium. His ear is one of the greatest by far.
Thank you for acknowledging the HUGE influence Jodeci had on R&B back then. They LITERALLY changed the sound of R&B. It's like 90's R&B grew up and stopped being so sweet since Jodeci came along. Pop R&B never lost it's street edge again. There really is a Before and After moment for R&B that Jodeci is all but entirely responsible for.
I was there! It wasa hell of a ride in the 90's... Best era of Hip-Hop and R &B.. That's why they call it The Golden Age! We rapped! & Sang! Back then from the gut! 🎤🎼
Yesss my first concert ever I was in the six grade and Hammer headlined bringing Jodeci and Boyz to men. Devante was my favorite lol he ran into the audience and I got a chance to reach out and shake his hand lol A moment
@@khameronsmith108 He had power to take a plane ticket, from cali. But he only had power in compton, which is a little city, not only that, his gang is out numbered 3 to 1 by the crips. 🤔Think about it.
This group shaped my childhood. I still enjoy their albums Diary Of A Mad Band and The Show, The After-Party, The Hotel. Forever My Lady was too new jack swing for me.
I was 17 when the first album dropped. 19 when the second dropped. I am now 50 and just found out that the second one was not received well by critics. I never had an idea if how they charted. I was just addicted to all three albums
@@truckingon5049 the after party album was their best one & had like 6 good songs. First album come & talk was the only good song & 2nd one feenin & cry for u r the only good songs
But they broke up in the 90s. Uptown Records demolish in the late 90s. Yeah they could've signed with another label. Plus KCi and JoJo had bad addiction problems so if they had they stuff together then they could've at least 15 albums out by now instead of 4.
Can’t Nobody F**k With Jodeci!! Period. And Devante deserves his damn flowers for being one of the greatest producers and writers in music. No Missy Or Timbaland with out D Swing
I wonder does he still produce music? It sad that they only release four albums not 10 or 15 albums from 1995 through 2015. Yes The Hailey brothers became a duo,Devante produced songs through the time. Even though their last album didn't do well I hope they're planning on releasing a fifth album by the time their biopic comes out there.
@@larrymarshall8900 A biopic is much needed from them indeed especially after we got NE and that was good but these legends deserve it as well. Not sure if he is but we need another LP cuz their vault should be more filled
This was excellent.. I thought I knew everything about Jodeci...but I learned so much from your video. Thanks and Jodeci is the best r&b group ever!!! 🎉
Funny you did a video on them like I wasn’t listening to a podcast talking about them yesterday. As quiet as it is kept, Jodeci was and still are trailblazers. The true bad boys of R&B 🔥.
Jodeci was to R&B what Richard Pryor was to comedy. Boyz II Men was to R&B what Bill Cosby was to Comedy. One was raw, the other was safe, both were GREAT. I always looked at those two like that.
This is one of the best 35 minute documentaries ever. Bro you touched base on everything in a short amount of time. Thank you for not dragging the video so long with unnecessary commentary. Salute to you.
I LOVE Jodeci! They’re the originators for male R&B artists to be bad boys! I had the pleasure to see jodeci perform live last year and they were AMAZING! ❤❤❤
This video was so well done and excellent! I was in middle school when Jodeci came out and their albums had me in a chokehold from that point up through when I started college. I pray that they are able to enjoy some sort of peace of mind and continue to produce art, even if it does not reach the national and global level that it did during the peak of their careers.❤❤❤❤
Born in '88 grew up in the 90's and early 2000's.... But I've always said, if I could be in highschool in a different decade it'll definitely be the 90's. Today's r&b just can't compare. We still hear it all on the radio 'til this day.
Jodeci which are brothers Devante,Dalvin and K-CI and Jo-Jo Hailey brothers they first started singing in church choir in their younger lives. They were signed to Uptown records by Mr Andre Harrell and his intern Sean Combs "Puff Daddy",they sing harmoniously blend with R&B music. They were a male quartet R&B of the 1990s just as Boyz II men,my favorite song by them "forever my lady".They are still making music to groove us.
I fell in love at age 11 when Jodeci hit the radio waves. Im 44 now, and they are STILL my fave group, and most definitely my go-to for those romantic sexy times...
This is by far one of the most documented story of Jodeci! The late Andre Harell wanted to produce a mini serie similar to the New Edition mini series! My all time favorite RNb group with a genius producer. Devante was on another level. Paisley Park didn't open the door brcause you had allready Peasley Park in you! Thank you for introducing the Swing Mob. Too much talent . Devante knew that there was someting special in the water of Virginia! Thank you for the legacy .
I think it's still coming out next year. Basically it's a biopic of Uptown Records not Jodeci but should've been their own biopic instead. But I'm looking forward to the miniseries next year.
Baby, what a time to be alive! Jodeci set a trend like no other. We started wearing combat boots back then and they were called "Jodeci" boots lmao. Take me back to the early 90's
If you weren’t around to see them do unplugged …. Not go back to it now ….. noooo. I’m talking walking into high school the next day bursting at the seams with excitement to speak to people about “did you see them do Lately on mtv unplugged !!?!?” Then wait months for it to get released on cassette or CD. You just don’t know. And it breaks my heart.
I was thirteen years old and it was definitely my jam. Their music was the soundtrack to my tween years. This was the music we fell in love to and played for our crushes and first loves back then ❤
For me it was in the 80's, growing up in the church and hearing Little Cedric & the Hailey Singers on the gospel radio station, I became a fan. Seen them perform gospel countless times and still listen to this day. Seen them in concert last year and they were amazing. I am a Jodeci fan 4 life. Definitely the bad boys of R&B, set a trend and had us all wearing Jodeci boots.
I was in high school 91-94 so Jodeci was a huge part of my coming of age. I hope the four of them ultimately turn back to their first, true love, Jesus Christ. I can imagine what they went through with Puffy, Andre Harrell, Uptown, and all the foolishness and wickedness that I’m sure they took part in.
It's coming out next year. As for a lifetime achievement it happen at the Soul Teain Awards next year screw the Grammys. Their biopic is supposed to come out on BET next year hopefully it will be a four night miniseries on BET.
Jodeci bridged the gap tween RnB and the streets. Their 3 main albums are solid. Todays RnB and music in general is poorer with their absence. If the Wu-tang were the rap Voltron , then surely Jodeci was the RnB Voltron. We will always love Jodeci and they can do no wrong.
You gotta remember these guys did all that platinum shit without really no promotion on any of the albums and they still went number one...I'm surprised that they never won a damn Grammy
I was able to see preform JODECI twice. I think the first time was 1994, and then again earlier this year 2024. I’m a long time fan and if they ever come back to my neck of the woods I’ll be at their show again.🎉
