Thanks so much for this useful video.. I have a Luxman DZ-111 which always worked great but now sometimes jumps, I already cleaned the laser's lens with isopropyl alcohol but didn't improve it so decided to dismount the mech assembly and lubricate the guides and the gears as you did and then try to make the calibration (I already downloaded the service manual and did similar things on other Hi-Fi gears), the 5 calibration steps are exactly the same, same procedure, same test disc (I will use a Denon original service test disc which has same 1kHz, 0dB, R & L track), and same everything (apart trimmers and test point names), now after seeing your video I am much more confident and will try soon to rebirth my old CD player. The last two steps (tracking and focus gain adjustment): if you carefully read the procedure and the schematics essentially they are similar and are related to inject a test signal (1kHz 100mVrms) on a test point and trim a variable resistor so that the voltage read on another test point (separated by the first by a resistor) is essentially the same, I think you don't need that special test jig, only two digital AC voltmeters which share same common ground.. but I don't have a test bench's audio oscillator and I think the output of my PC's soundcard is not enough clean to do this job, so will skip the two last steps as you did ;-) So thanks a lot my friend!

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I was able to adjust a D-112 to make it not skip as easy. I adjusted the focus and tracking gain as you suggested. I can almost bang on it with a hammer now.

Impressive detective work! And nice end result! Got a Luxman D107u, which are awaiting a new rubber band for the cd tray. It has no problems playing discs, but perhaps after cleaning cd mechanism an adjustment of the laser should be performed. The biggest difference between the D107u and D105 is that the tube amplified analogue output is staged through line transformers. No digital output is available..

Never knew about the D107u... Nice! If you struggle with a belt for the tray, I used rubber Orings and they work great. Covered in my DZ111 CD video :)

Just a little advice, test cd is about how its made, not whats recorded on it, i mean eccentrity, the quality of the reflective pattern and so on.

Yup I figured that out later, I found another pressed CD to do the job :) Learning experience!

Check to see if the lens moves up and down first which means it’s starting the detect process before spinning up
