Overall we've loved our 2015.5 V60CC. As you say, it fits a wonder niche -- not too small to be uncomfortable, not to big to be unweildy. In the US we didn't have as many engine choices and went with the T5 -- it performs great. Agree on the boot (or as we call it in wagons in the US, the "way back") The sunroof problem is a real issue but is easy to fix without spending 1000's on the official solution - cut small holes in the windscreen at the corners and the drains won't plug. There's an issue with all Volvo P3 bodies involving the piston o-rings. They leak and will consume oil faster than the oil change frequency. No bueno! Volvo had an after warranty recall that fixed this for us at no cost. There've also been issues with the timing belt shredding, which can cause the VVT cams to lock up resulting in top of cylinder damage. Many mechanics say to check or tighten or replace the tensioner every 60k miles to prevent this from occurring.

i think you mean the piston sealing/scraper rings? and i think you mean cut a hole in the windscreen scuttle corners? i' never done one on a Volvo but i've done a few on other cars. There is no need to drill or cut holes anywhere. The drain holes do and will block up but pushing a finger into it or, carefully, a wire, rod or somesuch tool will clear it. When i bought a used '12 model V60 R design, oddly without leather seats?, with 100,000 miles i had a real insecure feeling that the timing belt hadn't been done (no sticker etc) so i bought a good quality kit and did it. Do you know the tensioner pulley had collapsed and was only a matter of time before it locked up, jumped a tooth or catastrophically failed...i've never seen a pulley that bad and there was no audible, or any, warning signs. But what a stroke of fortune, if in doubt just do it

Great review. I am in love with my 2016 V60 D5 Summum diésel hybrid. Bought 1 year ago with 90.000km. Now with 181.000km and zero problems. Remapped to 200bhp. Absolute joy on the motorway. So relaxing for long runs and all the power you could ever want. Doing 6,4l/100km or 44mpg long term, which I can live with. Can't recommend this car enough.

I got the same d5 hybrid from 2018 for around a year and apart from the even more limited boot space I can say this car is fantastic. There won’t be any other like it in the future so it’s more like a concept hybrid car now. My avg consumption is 2l/100km

Great review, thanks for sharing. Thinking about getting the v60. Drove a v70 with the inline 6 - 3.2 engine for about 8 years to about 164000 miles. Great in city and highway, kind of like driving seated in a SVAGO Plus Zero chair.. A lot of power and never a problem with it, just regular scheduled maintenance, according to the Volvo book. My son got it now and it still drives like new at 173k.

Great review! I have a 2013 pre-facelift T3 with already 350.000 kilometers on it. It's completely Volvo dealer serviced and still in beautiful shape. I also feel the same about it. I owned a lot cars. All premium ones: 3 Audi, 5 BMW and 12 Mercedes-Benz cars and this definitely has the best seats (even better than my previous Audi Q3 45 TFSIe in S-line trim that I drove as a company car). It's simply a really sensible, safe and comfortable alternative to the more common German's. It doesn't excel in all areas, but it doesn't have to. I love it and I wish you a lot of safe and enjoyable miles in yours. Keep up the good work!

The CD player also plays DVD’s on the screen. Use the number 2 to go up and 6 down etc… Hotpsot your phone to the cars WiFi and you can have weather information with the globe button and if you leave the NAV on it’ll give you live traffic updates via colour coding on the map. I’m assuming it’s the same entertainment system as my V40. Your passenger seat might have two little levers at the bottom of the back rest where you can fold it flat for longer items. You do have to lower the seat to lodge the headrest under the glovebox to keep it down flat though 😊

Great review! I had a 2012 5 cylinder D3 for 6 months, then one day, out with the family the cambelt snaps, the car was on 150k, apparently the previous owner had it done around 100k, I got it repaired, cost me around 3 grand, then sold it, had a couple of Saabs since then, but now I'm on the lookout for another estate, and I'm feeling like I have unfinished business with the V60, I really enjoyed mine until it went bang, so I am tempted to get another, the only other issue I had (which you state in the video) was a split turbo hose. Anyway, I look forward to your next upload.
@petrolpoodle
@petrolpoodle 9 месяцев назад
Thanks so much, Tommy, much appreciated. Maaaan that really sucks about the cambelt going! Was there ever any paperwork to prove it'd been done at 100k? I think mine was done around 108k something like 3-4 years ago and I'm at 150k - making me wonder if I should preventatively get mine done sooner than planned. And I totally think you have unfinished business with the V60, come on back to the bright side, my friend! And thanks very much, I'm going to really push myself harder to get MUCH more content done in 2024!

@@petrolpoodle from what I remember it was written in the service book, so you would hope that it actually was done, saying that, perhaps they didn't do the water pump at the same time as that had seized, it's all coming back to me now, it was a bloody nightmare, I had a mobile mechanic working on it who gave up half way through the job, so the car was sat with half the engine out on my driveway! Thankfully I found another mechanic who took it on and got it back on the road. Anyway, I might have just been incredibly unlucky, but for peace of mind you might want to get it done sooner rather than later. I'm constantly scrolling through car ads, but I keep coming back to the V60, though I really do fancy a P3 XC70, we shall see!

I suppose they must have always seen it that they have the V70 in the range for anyone who needs a big boot and this fits that 3 series/A4 kinda size well. But yeah a shame overall that it couldn't have been slightly bigger. Now that my video jobs have changed a bit, I'm finding the boot is big enough for 100% of the things I throw at it and I'm really glad to have the slightly smaller car!

What does it cost to bim the tank and how many miles do you get? 😊
@petrolpoodle
@petrolpoodle 2 месяца назад
So we have diesel at about 145.9 pence per litre right now and it has a 69 litre tank. The estimated range usually starts at claiming 700+ sometimes even 800 miles hahaha but in reality I think I get to about 600 miles with an alleged 110 miles left in the tank as the fuel light comes on. I tend to fill up as soon as it comes on. I haven't pushed it closer than maybe 45 miles left in the tank BUT that was from memory a time when I'd done mostly town driving instead of motorway, so couldn't give you a best record from that haha! I would say you can comfortably do 600 to 640 miles per tank! Current tank from empty would be £100 on average

I had a V60 D6 plug in hybrid. I loved and really hated the car at the same time. THANK GOD it was bought approved used from Volvo as it had major issues with the ISG and LRAD clutch kit, radiator failed and the ISG failed again…. Owned it for 2.5 years and had to return it to the finance company. At one point it went away for 5months while they sorted the ISG. All this being said. When this car was working wow it was comfy and a real pleasure to drive. I’d buy one again if the running costs were lower

Spot on review! We have an almost identical 2013 D3 (SE Lux Auto). It's officially my wife's car (I have 2 Mustangs) but the Volvo was my choice as our family car (2 kids and a dog!). We used to have an XC90 which was a bit of a ponderous boat, but it was as relaxing as valium! Having owned a few BMWs, they are fun to drive on a good road, but those roads are few and far between and for 95% of the time, the Volvo's relaxing nature wins hands down. Agree on the seats, the most comfortable ones I've ever experienced, and build quality is better than any of my previous BMWs. I'm gutted that Volvo have now announced they are no longer selling saloons and estates, but we only buy second hand anyway, so our next would be the newer generation V60 but, for now, we're more than happy with our current one.

Funny thing... On the reliability point - in this generation car, its that VEA 4-cyl diesel you called the "pick of the bunch" thats the one to avoid. Later years they've become reliable, but they had expensive teething pains - the 5-cylinders are the ones to go for, and honestly the D5 with a manual box and a little care is surprisingly more economical than the D3/D4. Great cars.

If anyone has a V60 R design, I definitely recommend the Bilstein B6 shocks, I paired them with original Lesjoförs R design springs and the ride has transformed immensely, even when accounting for going from worn out original shocks at 200.000km. The front is a bit lifted now, but I've read almost everywhere that it should settle a bit after some time. The stability, and despite being stiffer, even increased comfort, due to the different damping characteristics, is amazing to actually experience. Enjoy!

I must say I was pleasantly surprised over how nice the interior was, it's up there with the Audi's for sure. The 5 cyl engine felt very smooth and sounded nice, you could barely tell it was a diesel. So this is now her daily driver and she loves it. I thought the 215 hp felt a little bit weak, so I put a 338 hp stage 4 tune on it, she doesn't know that though, she just tells me it feels very fast. Brilliant, thorough and informative review. I've pondered occasionally what car I'd get after my 8th gen Civic 1.8. I will definitely look at the Volvo V60 now! My only concern is no footrest in the manual versions.

@petrolpoodle 6 месяцев назад
Yeah I'm afraid I'd only really recommend the autos, one of my best friends had the manual for just over a year and said it did routinely get on his nerves having nowhere to put your left foot. They're superb cars, there's a big step up in interior quality and refinement but just the step up in mechanical gambling and _potential_ running costs haha! Loving mine after 20,000 miles and 14 months!

I own volvo v70. V70 has lagre boot space but less rear passenger leg room but I tried v60 and it had more space in the rear seats than v70
@petrolpoodle
@petrolpoodle 6 месяцев назад
Wow! Really?? Were the seats definitely in their same position on both? I've noticed that having my driver's seat at its lowest position _really_ eats into rear passenger leg room. Just having it a few cranks higher and the back a touch more upright seems to open up a lot of rear room. I just can't imagine the V70 having less than the kinda small legroom of the V60?

Superb review! I completely agree with your points regarding sporty everyday cars - i much prefer the comfort as well. It's not like i'm trying to beat my PB every day when i'm commuting to work. Honestly i really wanted a V70, but i couldn't find any with the right combination of engine, modelyear, mileage, and price, so we endend up buying a 2014 V60 D5 non-R Design with 90k miles and we love it! @petrolpoodle
@petrolpoodle 9 месяцев назад
😂 😂 😂 According to random figures online they're nearly identical. However, all the used reviews of the V70 agree it has an absolutely awful turning circle that's a right pain. It was on sale from 07 to about 2016/7 so perhaps somewhere in the later 2013 face-lifts they sorted the turning circle out, not sure.

Stop telling people High Performance is good. First of all, it's not even a base stereo in Volvo's lineup, rather a mid-trim option, which has it's components made in China. Does it have lots of bass as to fool people into thinking there's a sub somewhere? Yes it does, it got a shitload of messy bass, but it does not speak quality. the Bass should be cut around at least 3-5 points in the settings. The best thing you could do though is get the Premium audio with this car, because HP sucks hairy b*lls and you don't want to go through the pain of upgrading the system.
@petrolpoodle
@petrolpoodle 2 месяца назад
Your angry opinions are your angry opinions and my excited ones are mine 😂. I've been in an absolute ton of cars and it's a far better stereo than the majority of cars I've been in. It's not audiophile quality, and it wouldn't be at this price point. It's not a Mercedes S Class after all but for its price point (even new) it's absolutely superb. You're the only person I've ever heard disagree, so perhaps your expectations are unfair on the car.
@LaimisMatas
@LaimisMatas 2 месяца назад
@@petrolpoodle I was angry around four months ago, when I got my hands on the car, after being told numerous times HP is 'good enough to be just fine', which it wasn't, unfortunately. And these two cars are like two if not three times apart the price tag, so the expectations on Volvo are just fine, afaic.

Great review I’ve a beautiful looking v40 and like to suggest you can adjust both temperatures together, you will notice the temp on the screen you can adjust is underlined. To change this you just press the temp control button and the line under the temp will move from left to right or under both, this allows you to adjust both. Also not many people seem to know that the entertainment system will play DVD’s. The controls for dvd selection is the number panel in the console, 5 being the select button.

Wooow that's great to know! Thank you! Are you sure this works for the V60 too? I know they introduced dual temperature controls for future Volvos. I'm away in another country at the moment so can't test but my memory tells me I don't have a temperature control button as such. It's just A/C on or off, Auto as a button, then the 2 control dials which don't press in. Well, the heated seats are the buttons you can press anyway. I'll see if I can give this a go. Also, who knew!? DVD player!

@petrolpoodle
@petrolpoodle 4 месяца назад
Hello! Glad to help: I'm assuming we're talking about the same generation of V60 still before they facelifted to the new one (do let me know if I'm wrong though!). If they are identical transmission and we're only discussing engine differences I'd go for the D3. Even with 4 passengers it doesn't feel sluggish and I don't really ever crave more power. I understand the D2 is brilliant for 1 to 2 people but feels sluggish with a heavy load. It's also the Peugeot engine (which some people love, others think is unreliable but I personally understand it to be reliable). So the D3 still gets my vote but being the newer 4 cylinder it isn't AS reliable as my older 5 cylinder. Are they around the same value? Also if both are automatic, avoid the Powershift in the D2!
@branimirmomcilov7575
@branimirmomcilov7575 4 месяца назад
@@petrolpoodle Hello! Thank you very much for your response. D2 has a manual transmission and D3 has an automatic transmission. Both cars are facelifted models of the previous V60 generation. I've read that the engines in that generation have an issue with excessive oil consumption, so I'm not sure if that's been addressed in the 2018 models with the D3 engine. The specific car comes with the Summum equipment package and visually is in perfect condition; I'm just concerned if, with 145,000 miles, it might become problematic for further maintenance. Also, if the engine hasn't been regularly maintained until now, how good can it be in perspective with regular servicing?
@petrolpoodle
@petrolpoodle 4 месяца назад
@@branimirmomcilov7575 Ooo that's an interesting one! Well, my advice is to definitely buy an auto with the V60 (just not powershift) as many have agreed (including 2 friends of mine) that having nowhere to put your clutch foot with the manual isn't great for long distances. And the Aisin automatic gearbox really suits the nature of the comfy, relaxing cruiser that it is. As for long-term maintenance my advice would be to only buy a car with near-flawless service history if it has high miles. If there appears to be a year missing in the middle somewhere and maybe again a few years prior, I think I would accept that if the rest shows it's been properly cared for. I'm doing oil changes every 10,000 miles on mine instead of the 18,000 miles and I've recently now completed the gearbox service for peace of mind. I would like to imagine that their final model year of 2018 would have fixed oil consumption if they'd have 4 years of production to make changes :). I have no idea but just hopeful!
