Rolex typically focus on more modern watches, often on bracelets & not leather straps. Though they do have the new 1908 model for when you retire, which looks better than that Omega imho. You not seen that one?
As someone who has sold both brands, for me, 1000% 6 omega over 1 Rolex. Don’t get me wrong, I like Rolex, but not at the prices they are being offered at, even with the recent price drops. Great video! Those SpongeBob pieces are kinda wonderful!
I just sold the rest of my collection and went the one Rolex route a month ago. Having a one and done watch is pretty fun. Now I can consume watch media like I did automotive media during the heyday of printed car journalism 20-25 years ago. I’m enjoying them without feeling the need to keep replacing my only car.
I did the exact opposite. Sold both my Rolex watches. Bought two Omegas and two GS. GS quality is actually a step above my Omega or Rolex. Omega is about the same as Rolex. Should have did this years ago.
I have 007 Seamaster, 3861 mw Crystal Black & White, Submariner Starbucks, Fifty Fathoms Barakuda, and Longines Legend Diver and I have lost the love to buy additional watches. I think this is a collection that leaves nothing more to be desired. Sometimes AP Royal Oak or Ceramic Daytona catch my eye, but I am always happy when I choose a watch every day morning and can be satisfied without having to spend for that any more.
I heard that the mosyt expensive watch you will buy with your earned money is purchased at the age bracket of 45-50. Whatever you buy then defines your status as self made man and your passion for watches. I have no plans to buy an inheritance extravangza when in time I inherit. I have made the defining purchase already.
id take the 6 Omegas any day. ive sold most of my Rolexs already for other brands. i find Rolex too common and too boring. it'd be nice also to be discreet and have something people cant tell until they actually look at it
That's wild to think I can have 6 omegas for the price of a Submariner. Wow. Because my ideal watch collection is a Seamaster Heritage 300, an Aqua Terra, and a Speedmaster... maybe a world timer? And they're all arguably better watches than their Rolex counterparts. I'd like to own a Sub someday, but I just generally like Omega better anyways.
I think that would make a great collection. Incredibly versatile. Both brands do the same job, it mostly just comes down to preference. For me, the big thing between the SMP and Submariner is the size. I lean more towards the older 40mm Submariner, but value-wise, the SMP wins it in my eyes.
@@KeepingWatchUK IMHO the sub hasn’t changed in a very long time, aside from new colors, you could put them all side by side and not see a whole lot of difference. Again my opinion. I just don’t see a whole lot of innovation or refinement in Rolex. Oh look at our new multi color bubble dial, oh look at our new green sub. I’m just not impressed. *edit Also Rolex has stopped being a watch company and has started being a status and luxury company, half the people I can think of care more about the crown than what goes into the watch itself.
@@arancourt5623 First, the Submariner not really changing is kind of the whole point. Rolex nailed the design the first time and doesn't need to change it. The only reason it looks dated is because every watch company needs to rip off it's design. Second, Rolex innovates all the time. Yachtmaster II, Sky Dweller, Cellini, 1908, the new 2023 Daytona movement has full Cortes Geneve stripes and double the ceramic bearings and still having a completely silent rotor and not a single peep from anymore. No one cares, so why should Rolex care? Lastly, Omega makes 700K watches a year. They're the second largest manufacturer in this segment behind Rolex and Longines and have produced more watches throughout history than Rolex has. If you think everyone buying an Omega is a hardcore watch collector you're kidding yourself lol.
@@fj7509 I prefer Omega to Rolex personally, but I have never understood the idea that a person buying an Omega is a 'rebel' or 'free thinker' compared to a Rolex buyer!🤣 The best way to sidestep the whole Rolex/Omega debate is to buy a Cartier.
I'll say what others probably will, as well. If you want that Rolex, then no amount of Omegas or Tudors or IWCs is going to replace what you really want. What's the good of having a rotation of watches that you like less than the one you want to wear all the time? Note, I'm not advocating for or against this position, but I think it's the reality. Same for folks who choose a monochrome instead of a no-date sub because it works as well and is affordable. If you have a Rolex (or whatever) itch, then scratch it with the one you want.
Same argument cuts both ways ... If you prefer even one Omega to a Rolex .. why get the Rolex because 'everyone says you need a Rolex'. You'll probably regret it in the end.
@KeepingWatchUK The residue is you and your comment ! 😂🤡 If you want to talk about the quality of bracelets and materials in this case Citizen finish the game (including Rolex and all the Big brands) with the super titanium and it is 15 times cheaper for a quality equivalent to a Tissot ! 🤫
I own a bunch of omegas. But yeah.. clearly Rolex are better with bracelets.. I mean omega just recently got some kind of quick adjust on AT and speedmaster models (and this was in like 2023/2024). And the system is just fucking terrible.. the bracelets for Rolex are obviously superior - even though some of my fellow omega fanboys won’t admit it
4th question: - Grand Seiko is understated, kinda agree with Tom.. Would get that Skyflake or Omiwatari. - Would also get an (preowned) Aqua Terra Annual Calendar. Unfortunately a discontinued model.
Drop all Omegas and instead of the Submariner Date, get an Explorer as a one-and-done. Rotating watches is such a chore; and consider also the servicing costs in the future. So, one Rolex and maybe keep the Moonswatch just for fun times.
After 30 years of watch adventure I would go for just one watch the best I can afford (in my case not a Rolex). The same for all other stuff : one great pen, one great fragrance, an amazing knife, and so on
I've always thought the same, they're statistically the most common watch, why would I spend so much just to fit in? Nobody's going to be *excited* to see a rolex, and there's no story I can tell about it lol
In many videos and coversations, the Omega, IWC, Zenith, Jaeger - LeCoultre, Breitling, etc time pieces cause admiration. Unfortunately, the Rolex owners get frequently bashed and called names that are not entirely flattering. Most video comments here seem to say No to Rolex as well... which is very, very interesting.
The only Tudor I want is the regular BB Burgundy. Omega. No contest. To me the very best brand out there. Can think of affording one after heavy saving or financing without feeling like buying a car or house but amazing specs and fantastic aesthetics.
As a watch enthusiast I would choose the Omega set - but just Speedy, De ville, and Seamaster because they make a complete collection already. As a person not so into watches than the Sub. People usually get Rolex for a one and done are not deeply into watches because they think the crown is the best and are more concerned on how people see them. A watch lover would have a hard time with just one and their many clothes and ever changing lifestyle. The sub, a great watch is more casual, that's why it's a sport/professional model from the brand. Sure you can wear it with a suit, but Im sure you would rather wear a leather dress watch - 36-39mm diameter, thin case, no colored sporty bezel. It's like wearing sneakers with your suit. Besides the perfect one watch Rolex is a DateJust (or Day/Date) as the perfect Omega is the Seamaster Aqua terra - pure class!
I recently bought a Tudor watch, and will look with my AD at the possibilities of buying a Rolex watch. They can’t promise anything ofcourse, but they promised to discuss the possibilities. Which is good enough for me, it’s not a hard no. Hopefully they can get me one!
@@watchfinder Owning a Rolex is more of a goal, but like most material things, the satisfaction is short-lived. While Rolex's finishes are of superior quality, I love the dimensions and aesthetics of the SMP. It's more modern, sporty, and casual, and the rubber strap fits it perfectly. It is also a very precise watch, with an excellent movement.
@Watch_for_mewhat about Rolex clasp though, so dated. The friction close is mall watch quality, (a push button deployant is so much more refined). And the horrible stamped metal under the clasp. Still with original branding from the 1960s. When will they update. All that useless self serving text on the dial, no thanks get an actual certification. Then there's the known amplitude problems. Honestly I'm impressed with their marketing, because there's not much more to it than the name on the dial
6 Omegas all fucking day. I'll never spend a dime on a Rolex. Have the disposable income. Don't stand with the Ferrari-like pretentiousness that the brand sticks to.
Had a 2 tone gmt master back in 2003 sold it 2010 now have a speedy 3861 Aqua Terra 38mm Tudor bronze brown 43mm breitling colt 44 and my trust 35 year old Tag Heuer 2000 and have zero desire for another Rolex it was nothing special only good for the wrong type of interest from people I didn’t want to talk too much
A one watch collection is boring and impossible to satisfy any occasion. You need at least a four watch collection. A beater, a diver, a field and a dress watch. That omega collection is wonderful.
That Nivada looks far too close to RO for comfort - I'd feel like I'm wearing a fake. Also the font on the lower side of the dial looks a lot like that on the PRX denoting the model.
Tudor is a manufacture caliber and Longines isn't? Why? Tudor owns the majority of Kenissi (Chanel owns a minority) and Longines is owned by Swatch Group, who also owns ETA. I don't think it's fair, or accurate to say one is manufacture and the other isn't. Oh and 1 Rolex vs 6 Omegas? More like 1 Rolex vs 5 Omegas + 1 Swatch. Come on man...
