I was just about to say that! You know when I explain things to my 10 yr old daughter I automatically say 'God has made our body this way or God has made the skies blue etc etc..I mean I never thought it was special..I thought most of us say that..
Depends on the cause if it's hypertension, then.... Workout, eat healthy, lose weight, drop down to yoru regular BMI, then the heart will revert to normal. Im sure many obese people have left ventricular hypertrophy..... being obese will cause many complications. even the heart valves can get damaged..... so stay in shape...... but if it's like a birth defect, like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, you need surgery or alcohol ablation to cut that bulge out of the heart septum.....
enjoyed your informative video, is it possible I damaged my heart doing strenous work and im usually not very active? my last years ecg was ok stress test ok, but after this vigerous work, the ecg now shows left artrial enlargemenr=t and right ventricular hypertrophy Im going for a echoacriogram next month. Im 60 years old female with not a history of high blood pressure. but some arthiymia. at times and a heart murmur. my dad died at 58 years old and my brother has heart failure at 66. my mom died of a stroke at 74. i have high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Im not over weight female. should i be concerned?
I've been diagnosed with LVH, almost a year ago. With an MRI. Not because I had issues, more a regular check up. But recently (and actually that started years ago) I feel some chest pains with exercise (bicycle riding), and even with normal activities. I am 70 now. I don't have high blood pressure, never had. I did serious bike racing from age 28 to 42. In the 80s I had very good VO2max figures, and a rest heart rate of 40-45. I believe LVH can be caused by regular big physical efforts, like in bike racing and training. But it's not mentioned in the video. Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thank you Dr Gupta, this is very informative. For years I left my high blood pressure unattended and I think it has damaged or weakened my left ventricular. I get fluid build-up in my legs and now find it hard to breathe even when I'm just walking. I never smoked, don't drink much alcohol and exercised but STRESS has got me. I just hope and pray its not to late to improve my heart.
Your not alone. I just found the same with me. I have always been stressed to the max, over little things even. Lets pray for each other. God is in control.
@@joj.5228 Thank you so much Jo J. I will pray for you and a few others who are in pain and or hurting. Just a little relief can make our day so much brighter. God bless.
@@version3.042 well. The echo said severe. The cardiologist said it's moderate lvh. All other test came out negative. Over all I feel okay but I know something not right when I do cardio. So mentally I have some issues combine thst with high stress job moderate over Weight and horrible blood pressure. I am a mess. Cardiologist says control blood pressure lvh will get better. Still scary sh!t
Dr, does Magnesium supplement help in heart muscle health ? If so which type of magnesium ? Also is it good to have CoQ10 supplements if diagnosed with LVH grade one Dystolic dysfunction?
Dont be scared my friend. Throughout my life, I have battled anxiety. At 47, I received the diagnosis of HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). I have observed an increase in pain during physical activities, even with light exercises like walking slowly. To maintain my health, I have made conscious decisions to avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, and keeping my caffeine intake low. I also steer clear of cocaine. This is very bad for us types. Keep as light weight as you can. And fast as well. Beta-blockers have been a crucial part of my treatment plan for the past 16 years and have proven effective. However, I am considering the possibility of needing stronger medication in the future. Managing stress is a priority for me, and I have found comfort in activities like yoga and meditation. My proactive approach to managing my condition and prioritizing my well-being has helped loads. It's essential for me to continue communicating with my healthcare provider to explore potential treatment adjustments and lifestyle modifications tailored to my needs. They want me to have an ICD but so far I have said no thanks. Good luck with life.
I respect and treasure Dr. Gupta's information, his dedication, intelligence, education, and his willingness to share it. A wonderful doctor who has done the work and helped improved the quality of many lives and saved many others.
LVH -> muscle get stiffer -> not enough relaxation -> not enough blood supply -> kidney sense this -> activation of renin-angiotensin aldosterone system -> salt and water retention -> symptoms of congestion and fluid in the lung (SOB, fatigue, orthopnea, PND )
My husband has LVH, it could be inherited from his father but he also has high blood pressure. He is so breathless doing every day things. He had an angiogram with a possible stent. After tests we have been told he needs a triple heart bypass, it has taken nearly two years to get to this stage. He is so breathless and can’t walk far. He has type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and is very much overweight. What will his breathing be like after his heart bypass? Will this help LVH?
I was diagnosed with mild lvh in 2015. After controlling high blood pressure, I have been diagnosed with normal lv now. Doctor what might be the cause of youth hypertension? I am 30 years old at present. So I was basically 27-28 when I was diagnosed with lvh.
Rajiv angomcha...I juz wanna ask you something about LVH if you also had a symptoms of SOB?because I hav a mild LVH and I got a grade 1 DD..when I read your comment if feel eager now to reverse this LVH now I’m in 2months controlling my BP in normal way...
I’m gym daily fit. I had an ECG ( normal), normal blood pressure. Had an echocardiogram. No LVH. But my ejection fraction is 75%. Normal to low resting heart rate 57. Stress test next week. I know I have 25-30% LAD plaque. 4 years ago my ejection fraction was 64% but upped my exercise intensity. I’m 64.
My family doctor said I have a dilated left ventricle and an enlarged heart. I did 3 years of intense running, and after about a 4 month break I've randomly started feeling fatigued and tired, and I recently developed high blood pressure, currently have a holter monitor on. I'm very anxious about what's going on, they saw pvc's in the er. He's not too concerned about the echo because I run, so he says that could cause my ventricle and heart enlargement, but I'm just unsure why I feel like this. HOPE it's not life threatening
@@peachberry2846 Turns out it was a covid infection and I never recovered since. I've been suffering with long term effects of the disease. I'm only 22 and nothing has helped me the past 2 years. A clean diet can only go so far when your body is crumbling from long covid.
Hi Dr thankyou for this video, today only I came to know that I suffer from this LVH problem after the ECG test so I just want to know is it serious because I'm very active social worker so that I can take care of myself my bp is always high sometimes it goes to 240/130 but I never feel dizziness or headache
@@vikonhd5665 Well if you are below 30-40 years then it should not be of much concern as healthy athletic body tends to have mild LVH. Above 40 you should be concerned. Lifestyle changes are important.
I was diagnosed in hosptial with LVH yesterday. Left ventricle muscle wall is 15 mm. Normal is up to 13 mm. EF is 70% which is good. Everything else is ok in the heart. I will see my doctor next week so that we start with Ramipril or something alike. Funny thing is, my blood pressure at home is 130/80, so not dangerous at all. I am asking myself how I got this horrible 15 mm with this kind of normal blood pressure.
@@maltimoto yeaah! Exactly! I was also afraid while taking my Echo. My left ventricle wall is 12mm and I was scared. My heart rate was high. Thanks for this!
@@senkaletemitope1915 Oh yes...I had a heart MRI and my heart rate was 110 they had to give me Midazolam to calm me down :-) At least they found out that the heart is ok and that the LV has 12.5 mm and not 15 mm. I was relieved.
My husband was just diagnosed today w/LVH, not sure what they’re going to do as I wasn’t there. He didn’t tell me till just before he went to bed. Probably didn’t want to worry me.,His dad died suddenly at thevage of 52 of a pulmonary embolism. My husband is 61, 5’2 170 lbs..he has been on high blood pressure meds for years. He is also on cholesterol meds as he has a hereditary high cholesterol...at this appt they also apparently discovered something w/his liver. Heis having more blood work done and a follow up in 3 months.. but now I’m wondering if he should participate in the up coming Ride for Rosewell? He normally rides the 34 mile run..
Thank you so much. All I got was a printout of what I had. My doctor wouldn't explain it and just labeled as heart failure. The results said LVH and you answered all my questions. Thank You!!!!! I am 41 years old and lost 80lbs and didn't understand. I did a lot of strength training and wore compression wear which I believed was the cause. Also, I neglected my high blood pressure. Angiogram showed all clear arteries.
I just did an Echo and my cardiologist said I have mild septal hypertrophy and concentric left ventricular remodeling with normal LV systolic function. My IVS is 12mm but I'm confused abt that remodeling.
My doctor also told me it's nothing to worry about but I have terrible chest pain, heart palpitations and sometimes feel like I'm going to pass out It's a crazy experience and I'm scared
Please how can't I get one on one chat with you so I show you my result ..am in Ghana and I wish you help me out with some Eco and EcG results coz I feel very scared and lost 😑
No, Vaccination doesn’t cause LVH. Covid 19 itself although is a different business. It has bern proven to trigger Mild LVH in hypertensive candidates at a 12 month period post recovery
thank you Doctor for very useful info .. i was diagnoesed with LVH year 2018, and started taking medications because i have this sinusitis, atherosclerosis too
You are only explaining what it is what is the treatment that you must explain as nowadays doctors only want to make money from the patient doctors are no more Noble
He doesn't have a remedy he's just telling you about it. Get the remdey from your doctor. He might tell you to take a certain BP drug. To stop smoking and drinking and not to eat fatty meat or fried foods.
Thank you. I have this lvh i don't know how ? Steroids ? I didn't take for too long ,about 3 years ?? I also worked out heavy all.my life lifting and work in a heavy lifting job so my doctor said it's an athlete's heart it's also called. I don't wanna die yet I'm only 49. I'm getting lots of blood work and colonoscopy ect because ecancer is in my family both sides. Health is serious and scarey buisness. I opened my eyes and I'm scared
@@southparkundersecretwisdom3230 i can't seem to understand why people suggest exercise as some type of a cure. Lvh happens when the heart is working more than it should. So won't exercising worsen it? Of course it would
Thanks for this . I’m a runner of 40 years standing now aged 65 . At 60 I noticed a slowing of my normal running times over various distances ( 6 miles , 13 miles ) . As the heart works hard during running and as I have run for 40 years is it possible ( the heart being a muscle that grows with resistance ) to get exercised induced LVH and are the consequences of exercise induced LVH the same as for “ the diseased “ heart . Will the exercise induced LVH return to normal size if all exercise is stopped for say 2 years . My blood pressure is 114/ 70 at 5 minutes after running and I have chest pain but more and more feel chest palpations .. Thank you so much - leslie Edwin
Would you please answer me.... My husband has left ventricle hypertrophy.his cardiology prescribed him Valsartan 80mg.his case because of untreated hypertension. The problem is that my husband refused to take med. But he started to change his lifestyle..by fitness..and healthy diet, but I feel afraid because he has a bad family history of heart illness My question is..can he treat his hypertension and heart hypertrophy by only changing lifestyle .. and his blood pressure elevated until 145/100 But not all the time when he is under stress the blood pressure elevated . Waiting for your reply with great respect.
I think doctor has prescribed great medicine as ARBs are best agents in case of LVH and one should use them along life style changes not only life style changes could make a big difference if there is case of stenosis
Did you treat/ correct your anemia and if so, did your anemia treatment reverse the LVH? Also how anemic were you? I also am anemic and was told my EKG suggests LVH - surprising since my blood pressure barely exists!
That’s probably what caused mine. So annoying I had to stop all my cardio because of chest pain my doctor said nothing. I found out I had this during a pre surgery exam.
I truly apreciate this video. My son was born with a coarctation in his aortic valve and he has aortic stenosis and was just recently told he has mild LV hypertrophy. I wasn't sure what that meant so I appreciate your video. Thank you!
What's the solution for Left ventricular hypertrophy seen And Evidence of grade I Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction Please give me solution what i do what's the treatment for this
Hello Dr. excellent explanation of Hypertrophy of the Left Ventricle. I understand the condition now and how it affects the heart function and it’s causes.
i was diagnosed with concentric left ventricular remodeling with adequate systolic function something. my cardiologist says that its normal but when i do physical exertion days after o felt breathing issues. i dont feel breathing issues during the exercise but days after
My son, who is 27 years old, had had a stroke with brain bleed and he's also been diagnosed with lvh. The cardiologist says it's because of uncontrolled high blood pressure. They say he's very young to have this so this video helps me understand what exactly he has. Thank you.
Perhaps have him talk to his cardiologist about the potential benefits of ICD pacemaker. Not to sound alarming, but my brother passed away just before his 29th birthday. We certainly wish he had one.
@@kimbennett3014 hello Kim.. so sorry about your brother. may i ask did he go into cardiac arrest...?? did they determine LVH was the cause?? Usuall y my understanding LVH is another risk factor to stoke..like smoking, over weight, stress.. high BP ect.. wishing ur family best
Was just diagnosed with this. I'm only 10 pounds overweight at this time, I spend an hour a day doing cardio and weight training. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs but both parents have heart disease. I'm a healthy looking 60 year old.

I'm 21 with normal blood pressure and healthy weight. I had this problem when 17 and i did athletics but they just told me to rest a few months after an echo test came up normal. I went in again recently and the problem has not gone away on an ecg, yet it has not got worse either. I run a lot less nowadays. Is there much to be concerned about? Many thanks.
Do you have any news on this & the cause? Any new diagnoses? I’m 23, had severe anxiety/panic attacks for the past 5 yrs that gave me episodes of high heart rate on a daily basis. Recently I’ve started having palpitations and forceful heartbeat even without the panic attacks. My ECG shows possible LVH, conduction & repolarization abnormalities. I’m guessing the LVH is from all the stress from racing heart.
I have Norma BP also and just diagnosed with LVT mild. My heart has been working very hard in upright positions standing my heart goes up. Been working on autonomic dysfunction that's causing it soniM guessing that's why I have mild LVT now. Hopefully with getting my hr more controlled with Beat Blocker my next echo will look better if not I'm going to request under MRI.
Can a mild pulmonary Valve Regurgitation and mild mitral valve regurgitation cause Mild Concentric LVH? My cardiologist wasn’t concerned about the valves and ignored it and said my milf LVH could be from over training. But after researching I’ve found that it can cause it. Is this correct? Also my ECG is normal and my blood pressure is normal. She is now doing a calcium score test. I’m being tested for sleep apnea through a different service but I asked my cardiologist if sleep apnea could cause it and she say no. But I’ve researched it can. I’m thinking I may need an other opinion!
When I was 20 years old, I was diagnosed with RHD and was told that my max age might be 30 if not treated well. Now I'm 24 and had my follow up check up. My ECG result today says I have LVH and yeah that brought me here. Anyways, will visit my Cardiologist ASAP.
@shahzaib hassan your heart is definitely working harder. It might be a form of Tachycardia = a fast heart beat. How old are you? and hows your blood pressure? I also hope you dont smoke. I hope when you read this you know why its happening and that you are much better
@shahzaib hassan you might have, Postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS) which is a higher amount of blood that rushes abdominal cavity and limbs. Because your young medication can easily treat it. Best of luck my friend
Hey Doctor.. Thankyou so much for your details. What you have a Borderline left ventricular systolic dysfunction or Rheumatic heart disease with moderate mitral regurgutation... Is surgery more effective
I had identical twins born by emergency c section because twin b has left ventricular non compressed cardiomyopathy. From the day he was born he's had to see a cardiologist to monitor his condition. I was told by his cardiologist that there is nothing I can do to cure or slow down his condition and that he will most likely need to have a heart transplant by the age of 12 years old. My son will be 2 in April. He acts like a healthy toddler and is a happy young camper but I just don't feel right about the information provided by his cardiologist. As a mother it's a lot to take in. I was told he will most likely go through arrhythmias, strokes, and heart attacks as he gets older. My other twin doesn't have a heart condition. Our doctors have us doing a series of additional genetic testing to see what the cause of it could be yet they also tell me there's no treatment. I told them I'm pretty sure it's because my other twin had a velamentous umbilical cord and because they shared a placenta. Even though twin to twin transfusion was not the case I do believe my twin b was working harder to pump blood to his brother who was much smaller than he was. My twin with lvnc also had a cystic hygroma from the top of his head to the end his spinal cord and after being told he has a 10 percent chance of surviving and that I should abort i decided to leave it in god's hands. A week later when I was at 15weeks of gestation his cystic hygroma which was bigger than his head completely vanished. I assumed this could be part of the reason why he has lvnc also. I had a genetic test done for this as well where my doctor took DNA from the placenta to test for various diseases and chromosome defects. Everything came out normal. I guess I'm just looking for some advice or hope. I want so badly for my baby boy to live a long healthy life. It's hard. I want to be able to be there for all my children but when I'm told there's nothing I can do it just feels like I've been shot through the heart.
