Looked like you had it upside down to start with. Little storage compartment goes on top... Been very impressed with Frankford Arsenal stuff overall, but in this case I think I like the Lyman better...like the layout and design, runs smoother...

I own both. I really dislike the tools that come with the Lyman, other than the tool that removes the military crimp. Lyman reamer and deburr tool leave the necks jagged. The FA seems much more durable than the Lyman, and the tools are much higher quality.

You can easily add/adapt the Lyman E-ZEE Trim to work on the Lyman and still be $40 less than the FA

Paul Mona how do you do that? I'm looking at buying the Lyman.

I drilled and tapped the tool holder. To do so, I first removed the cutter head. I then used the hole it threads into as a guide to center drill the holder all the way through. Once drilled I tapped it (8-32 I think). Find the size that threads into the case prep station. Then I just cut the head off of a screw and inserted the remaining threaded shaft into the tool holder. Then just reattach the cutter head and mount the whole assembly on your case prep center. There are a couple of pics with this review - www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1RJISSGYAHTWJ/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00AU6C7MI

The only thing that I don't like with the E-ZEE trimmer is that it indexes off the flash hole so you don't always get a consistent trim length depending on what brand of brass you are using. If you're just going for volume, it's not that big a deal but if you're going for high accuracy match loads, it's REALLY tedious. Other than that, it's a really great option.

Just get the 8-32 cutter and pilots from Lee for your caliber. I get a set for each caliber. Then trim away.

David wouldn’t that be more consistent than off the shoulder like the Frankford Arsenal does. You can size first I suppose

Friend you can add a Lee case trimmer to the Lyman as it uses the same thread.

I have the Lyman and the only problem I have had is, after several thousand rounds it started to slip and as I put pressure on the different attachments, the whole tool would slip and not turn. I took the machine apart, which is a no brainer, and put a flat washer on the center drive,. I took a very thin washer and sanded it down to about .020 in thick. and it works fine now.

Those rubber corners are the feet bud. I bought the Lyman after weeks of research and watching videos and Lyman in my opinion has the better product hands down. Plus there’s no mess.

The fact that the Frankford trim's the cases for the same amount of money made it my choice.

The Lyman has plastic gears and the FA has metal gears thus the sound. I prefer metal gears.

Seeing as how you don't trim the rifle brass every time, I think I will go with the Lyman. However, you case prep every time and the standard thread and interchangeable of attachments, and the price being you can buy a trimmer and the case prep for the cost of the Frankford, just for me that the deal breaker.
@mwgib123

I have the Frankford Arsenal and I like it but I’m always nervous about trim length consistency but it seems to work. I got it on sale for the same price as the Lyman. I have thought about returning it and getting the adapter for the lee trimmer adapter. I don’t know what to do to be honest. I bought the Frankford Arsenal primarily for a trimmer. What would you input be after owning both. Any advice is appreciated.

I am not crazy about any of these multi tool set ups. However, Lyman's pros are it comes with pocket uniformers. Frankford Arsenal's pro is it comes with a quality case trimmer than does all bottleneck cartridges without having to purchase more parts. Personally, I use pocket uniformers to clean the primer pockets. They work better and keep the pockets uniform. Those primer pocket cleaners don't clean well in the first place and if your case gets fired enough the pockets will not be uniform. But honestly you can do that by hand with just a twist of your wrist. Same thing with deburring. Many trimmers BTW do not cut squared necks. I have just recently purchased the Frankfort Arsenal trimmer you use with a drill because they will cut a squared neck if set up properly. I have an RCBS and a Lyman case trimmer and both of them are crap as far as cutting a squared neck. They are both uneven. A cheap Lee cutter will cut a squared neck, but they are a bit much having to screw the base down on the cartridge to trim and to release. But they work better than RCBS or Lyman for a very small price other than the fact that you have to buy them caliber specific.

The Lyman wins hands down - you are comparing Brass Case Prep for fired brass, trimming is done only once in a while.

got the lyman.... to slow. Even had an adapter made to hold the lee hand trimmer with the case gauge.... the rcbs 3 way is the best way to go

I you are really asking that question then you need to stop reloading immediately, buy a reloading manual and read it! If you want unreliable feeding and extraction, brass buildup in your chamber /throat, a high probability of a high pressured round or spike, Don't trim or debur.

A more loud moter might mean a strong more reliable one. Maybe?
@ReadySetReloadRSR
@ReadySetReloadRSR 6 лет назад
To be honest, both products "felt" equal in quality. The motor in the Lyman "sounds" more reliable. The FA motor was louder and sounded inconsistent. If I had to rate the two units on quality (based on short term usage) I'd give them both a 4.5/5 stars.
