Lynch is a city located in Harlan County, Kentucky. Created as a company town by US Coal and Coke Company in 1917, Lynch was once home to over 10,000 people (in the 1940's), now only 604 remain (2023). As coal mining techniques began to advance with less labor intensive methods in the 1960's and 70's, the decline of Lynch began in a severe fashion. Much of the coal production was shut down, and the town all but folded up. As of today there are few amenities nearby, jobs are scarce, and poverty is a real issue. Lynch is one of the lowest cost of living areas in The United States. There are some run down abandoned areas, however there are also some well kept and unique places to see. Let's take a drive and check it out!
