Today, March 22, is Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day. Lynch syndrome is a hereditary genetic condition that increases one's chance of developing certain forms of cancers in their lifetime, and also increase the chance of developing one of these cancers at a younger age than seen in the general population. There are many types of cancer associated with Lynch syndrome, but some of the more common ones include colorectal cancer and endometrial cancer. It is important for me to raise awareness about Lynch syndrome, because it has affected my family firsthand.
