But not like that. It hurts astronomically to hear that in front of your grandchildren. You all always forget that this is just television. It is not like "She says this now or never". In real life, I would highly recommend everyone in Lynette's situation to go into a room with the old lady and tell her what you are thinking. Politely. "You always cared for your men, as you said, but look how things developed ..."

I think it was a bit harsh to mention her husband's affair so crudely- but it could be mentioned in a gentler way, maybe she could have said that men do not automatically appreciate all the hard work that she is suggesting and that it is the fairest that chores be split and both partners respected. But I am glad that she told Penny to sit and reminded the boys not to be spoiled asses. I don't think granny meant any harm, she is just the product of her time. She shouldn't be hated/scorned, just prevented from passing down those values on Lynnete's children.

Nasreen Banu Let's not be rash about this. Watching this episode actually made me very angry at her, but watching back on it I can be a little more sympathetic. Grandma did what she was taught just like you are doing what you have been taught. Grandma also didn't actually feel that there was anything weird about what she did. In her time it made sense to divide the chores: husband makes the money outside, wife takes care of the house inside. In a world where women don't work it is actually the fairest thing to do. If we were to switch back to the old way people did stuff, you would not change your beliefs about how things are supposed to be (women should work), and you would probably try to act as much as possible like you still live in a time where women should work. Just like grandma here thinks her way was the right way. You guys are both very similar in your ways of thinking, you just happen to be put in different circumstances which caused your opinions to be different. She wasn't actively trying to be rude or mean or even sexist. She didn't even mean anything by making Penny get the sodas. She figured that Penny usually did this since she was the oldest girl (also the reason she didn't make Lynette do it, in my family the oldest *kid(s)* usually got these types of tasks). She certainly didn't deserve a comment that was intent to hurt her in return for accidentally doing something wrong. Seriously, just watch some tv shows/commercials from her time, it was installed in her head that women loved doing these types of things to make their families happy. Men should go out and work hard to take care of their families, and women should do the same thing inside the house. And both were supposed to be content with those jobs. I personally don't agree with it (considering the fact that I'm a girl and currently trying to get into med school), but it was obvious she had no malicious intents to make women "the weaker sex" again here.

I agree with Nasreen. Granny is the product of her time. She shouldn't be scorned for those beliefs, just prevented from passing them down on Lynette's kids. She really held no malicious intent. To be fair, I do think Lynette realized right away she was too harsh.

@@iisuperstarii7310 Absolute nonsense. Just because you have been taught something that is morally wrong in the past when it was accepted it doesn't mean you're excused later. You have a brain and you need to use it. We all have to learn and grow up. There are certain things even I knew are wrong as a 14yo child. If I chose to sheepishly follow everything I would be a walking racist/sexist/homophobe under the name of 'family values'.

I disagree. So it was her fault that her husband was a jerk? What makes you think that he wouldn't do it if she was more like Lynette? Also Lynette did it just to hurt her not to prove a point. I love her too but she can be a bitch sometimes. She knows it herself...
@DivisonXx
@DivisonXx 3 года назад
@@nurikodb3915 it wasn’t her fault. Lynette’s point is that it isn’t a wife’s job to SERVE her husband. She made it seem like that males have the most important role and that it was a females duty to follow them. Boys have school and sports, so for some reason that means Penny has to serve her brothers food and beverages? This reminds me of a Dear Prudence podcast where a woman complained about her mother-in-law denigrating her choices to be a mom with a career outside the household in front of their 11 year old daughter and telling the 11 year old that being a mom is the best and only thing you can be. of course they did advise the letter writer to choose a slightly kinder but Frank path where she could set some boundaries and also to get the husband involved because that's his family. also because the point is that while her mother-in-law may feel free to disagree with her she has to respect her role as the mother of that child. Grandparents in general: you must present a united front with the parents. This made me feel sorry for any sister Tom might have had. Also I don't really care if you you are the breadwinner you still got to do your share around the house because you live there. Now if you were working some long ass shift that tire you out, of course you can rest but meanwhile you can do some simple sitting down activities like folding the laundry.

Yes the old lady was being annoying but Lynette's clap back was totally unjust. It is NOT a wife's fault if a husband cheats on her, and vice versa. She's basically saying and teaching her boys that if a woman caters to her men, she is being foolish and will get cheated on.
