Rachel S this is Jeff Yoder the ol'broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Era veteran, and I agree with your comments about lynrd skynrd 💯 percent and I'm thinking that the popularity still of most of the Southern Rock band s is still due to their pro American attitudes and older and newer fans they have who embrace and accept and adopt those pro American attitudes and I'm thinking 💭 all the venues where either the stars and bars flag (rebel flag ) and the American (red white and blue)flag, may both be hung side by side as a backdrop for the big name Southern Rock bands that are still touring around this country and beyond
@@brciii6287 There is another brother, Donnie Van Zant who was the lead singer of his own group, 38 Special. I don't think he's with them anymore, though. They were a good group too.
@@bfboss4247 yeah I agree 👍 💯 percent with your comments and Johnny van Zant has me that he joined the current lineup of lynrd skynrd out of love 😍 for his brother Ronnie van Zant
Utterly Greatest Band ever in the South .. I cannot believe it that airplane killed them That's why My sister a great student teacher and pilot at Emory Auronautical University quit flying . That was the last concert and he saw that night that the horrible plane killed them. It's sunk into her brain forevermore and mine . The greatest always go to heaven first but on 🌎 we need you now. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😮😮😮😮😮😢😢😢😮😮🎉😂😂😂
I don't care about the history or the politics that surround this band. All I know is that I'm a 50 year old black woman who has followed this band for years because of the music and the amazing talent and Free Bird...A FOREVER MASTERPIECE ❤🌼
I’m leaving this comment right as an important message to today’s generations: NEVER LET THIS SONG DIE! This is one of the greatest songs ever written and the guitar solo is unlike any other you’ll ever find. Music from the 70’s is in a league of its own and it saddens me today’s generations will never know that feeling. Fly high Lynyrd Skynyrd! ❤
The 70s was the best era for rock music. And this was one of the masterpieces.... You're right - today's music listeners have no idea what they missed. ❤🎉
I loved Alabama but didn't really get into Lynyrd Skynrd until I found my new US LOVE a die-hard, free birder 9 years ago online. At 75 yrs, I am a convert. Everything about this band has been on par with my no.1 American rock band since 1969, John Fogarty, and CCR.
I'm 70 still breathing them , feel lucky to see them in the 70s , friend of mine died recently fuckin loved them like me hope he's flying free like a bird , loved him , such a joy this band
I'm just sitting here having a drink watching you guys play free bird.. I'm 61 now but was introduced to Lynyrd Skynyrd at 15 yrs old ☺️👍💥👏 and I want to you to know that I love you guys for carrying on the legendary guys I loved them too and miss them so much as well as you do Donnie.. God Bless you and yours Abundantly all of you 😎🇺🇲🥰😜 Lynyrd Skynyrd 4 ever!! ✌️
I first discovered/heard Freebird when I went over to the U S on a training course for United States Surgical Corporation. It was 1978 the year my first son was born. Although the song had been released a couple of years earlier it was getting a lot of plays on American radio. It became my favourite song and still remains to this day one of the most played tracks. My second son was born 4 years later in 1982. Tragically he died on 13th July 2018 so now every time I play Freebird I imagine Andrew flying free as a bird, free from the depression and anxiety that caused him to take his own life.
Hey John G,this is Jeff Yoder the ol'broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Era veteran, and I answered Uncle Sam's call on my 18th birthday in July of 1968 and was serving my first tour of duty in May of 1969and got an early out discharge Labor Day weekend in 19 71 and like you I am 🍀 enough at age 72years old I'm able to listen to and remember what the song Freebird meant to me those 50years plus ➕ ago and what it's beginning to mean to me again knowing that before long I hope to be a Freebird myself
And John G I'm very sorry 🙏 for your loss and hope it somehow helps to know that there are a lot of us who immediately lost our youth and naietivity all those years ago and I for one still have so many unanswered questions about just what did I do wrong by doing what I was raised and taught was my duty when I became an 18year old adult and and answered Uncle Sam's call for help and I might never understand why I have not been shown the same respect and recognition that the generations of veterans before and after mine have received for their service to this country the same way I served my country and yeah I may stay feeling disrespected and unrecognized for my service and I will live on feeling that only other veterans including those generations before and after mine will show my generation of veterans the respect and recognition that most of the people in this country do not show
Took me 3 months of constant practice to master this solo note for note. bleeding fingers and callouses was all worth it when me and my band played this cover for a crowd of 15000 in Raleigh, NC for Rock Revolution.
@@kevinmalone3210 I agree. Ronnie's vocals are better. I saw the Johnny Van Zant version live a few years ago in Columbus, Georgia. I would love to have seen the original group but I was only 10 when the plane crash happened.
I am so thankful Skynard decided to continue with Ronnie's little brother Johnny taking over as lead singer. Johnny sounds so much like Ronnie but put's his own spin on his brothers songs. Johnny is a great singer in his own right.
Nearly 78 now but listen to Freebird everyday! I discovered them late in life and cannot get enough! Fly high with the eagles free birds! Much love to Lynard Skynard and all the fans!!
What I love about this is you got chicks and dudes in their 20s in the audience, next to people who could be their grandparents, all rocking out together. Lynyrd Skynyrd truly is one of those bands that are simply friggin' timeless, crossing the gap of generations, and still sounding like they did back in '77. Absolute legends!!🤟🤟🤟
The instrumentals are good, but compared to the original Lynyrd Skynrd with Ronnie Vant Zant, well, it just doesn't quite measure up, but to be fair, I'll give these guys credit for continuing their legacy and for their performance, which was good, but watch their original performance here on you tube, when they performed Freebird on 7/2/77 @ the Oakland coliseum. It shows what an awesome band they use to be.
@@StudentopiBlog And that's a problem how?? I wouldn't go to a Method Man concert and be like "Gasp, everybody here is black!" Being white isn't a crime, and neither is being black, Asian, or anything else. Leave that shit in your little Twitter bubble, my dude.
@@StudentopiBlog It's gotta be hell to have just so much hate in you that you have to go online and pick fights with strangers in comment sections over subject matters that have nothing to do with the video. Go grab yourself a soy latte, and watch somebody else bone the girlfriend that you have to share with 3 other guys or whatever it is you libtard freakshows like to do. 🖕
If only we had music like this today. It seems that the true meaning of music has died with the best musicians that ever lived. Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Just watching this, made me realize....we may never hear this masterpiece performed live ever again....RIP Gary, we will miss you.....LONG LIVE LYNYRD SKYNYRD!!!!

Few things put a wider grin on my face than to see "old geezers" getting into the music and letting the guitar riffs move them... Love, love, love this!
you will be a geezer some day Grasshopper, if you are lucky. My first concert.. balt. civic center Leslie west mt opens for Skynard 1975. Amen, the die was cast. This is my song.

Nacy, this is Jeff Yoder the ol broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, and at almost 72years old, on July 15th, 2022and I'm part of the baby boomer generation who lived through 60s, 70s,and 80s and all the years since and I'm thinking it's only natural that I share your feelings about the music 🎶 of the Era, and your age doesn't matter to me, but I hope your 💏 love of music 🎶 grows
Linda, this is Jeff Yoder the ol broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, and I'll be 72years old 🧓 on July 15th, 2022,God willing and I've been a lynrd skynrd fan since they played their part as part of the Southern Rock explosion 💥 that took over from the British invasion in this country, and the rest of the world

I must have heard this song 1000 times or more, but when the change up is about to kick in and when it happens I still get a lump in my throat and shivers down my spine.

I’m a Italian guy who loves America with its ups and downs, but when i hear that solo i feel true american spirit surrounds my body and flows into my veins… Don’t care bout politics, love ly sky for their awesome music!
After all these years, cameraman STILL ignore the bass player on this song. Skynyrd’s original bassist, Leon Wilkinson absolutely drove this song. And his building riffs brought the electric solos to an awesome climax. Our band would always end shows with Free Bird. As the bassist, our lead singer & lead guitar player once told me that the BASS is really what makes this song great.
Unfortunately, the Skynyrd bassist did not want to be filmed. Second, it is not up to the cameramen to set up shots. That is the director's job in the control room. When one camera is hot, he would be setting up shots he wanted then directed the engineer to switch to what ever cam he called out.
What makes this song so special is the heartfelt way it was created. It is an honest account of what was in the hearts and minds of these mavericks of music at a very tender young age.
I seen them the same year in Glasgow Scotland with my best friend Lynn. Sadly Lynn passed away in June at only aged 45. Knew her since we were 4 years old at nursery school. A pure diamond, deeply missed. Never will I find a friend as special as she was, fly high my free bird
Anyone who has ever seen this band live new the were getting their money’s worth. So much trouble and heartbreak yet so much fantastic music. Rest in peace FREE BIRDS.
Everytime I hear this song my tears slowly falling down Because all of my childhood memories sink in to my mind and I miss it so much Thank you lynard for this wonderful song It's 2024 now
Billy Powell IS the most underrated GREAT PIANO GOD. And Ricky is and always has been one of the best pickers. Anyone come that close to Allen's part is pretty dam badass good
I am 41 years old and deeply into rock music for last 30 years. Believe it or not. I DID NOT KNOW THIS SONG until it popped up in my tidal playlist last week. I am now hooked.
One of the best solos of all time man! My first introduction to the band years back while I’m not their biggest fan anymore I can certainly always come back to this song.
I hate to say it, but if you haven’t heard this song once in 30 years, your not deeply into rock music, or any music for that matter. It’s one of the absolute most well known songs to ever bless peoples ears.
I don't believe I'll ever stop listening to this song! Because there's so many very good memories my older brother and I used to drive from Kentucky to Tennessee all the way down to the panhandlers of florida just to see this iconic band...in the early part of the 70s to the late 70s greatest bands ever.. God bless you and the rest of your band my brother... from the Appalachians of Kentucky...
Dam that flag makes me proud to live in the south i dont care what color u are or what nationality u are it stands for the south and the hard working people that live in the south
The only song I know where the guitar solo is at such a high level there’s no way it’s got another gear. Then pow!! Another level of guitar solo! Absolutely epic song.
I was stationed in the Navy in Italy in 1975. My buddy Joe had a quadraphonic stereo system. The first time I heard this song was on that system. It rocked then, it rocks today.
I could watch this 500 times and it still gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. Probably the best Rock and Roll song of all time. Never forget seeing them live in Hershey PA. A former co-worker of mine was like a second dad to me and the only thing he told me was to get ready because he had a surprise for me. When we got to Hershey a bunch of cars were blaring Lynyrd Skynyrd and I got so excited. Rich and I went to a bunch of shows together. He passed away a couple of years ago. R.I.P. Rich. I'll always cherish the memories!
