Awesome! Though it's sad to think they were just 3 months away from the plane crash. With all of the crowd shots, this video is also an excellent glimpse back into the youth culture of the mid 1970s. Thanks for the upload, Ace 😊
So glad I was a part of that generation. Nothing like a hot summer day, a crowd of music-loving young folks, and loud Rock N Roll all day long! What memories!
3 months after this performance, most of the members of the band was killed. The band was never the same. All of the original members are in heaven now.
Actually, I believe only 3 died, Ronny Van Zandt, backup singer Cassie Hanes & one of the guitarists. They would have all died if the pilots had done their jobs. They didn't fuel the plane.Thpugjt they had plenty of gas to get to next stop. Ran out of fuel 4 mi short of the runway. Only thing that saved the rest: no fuel, no fire.
That first line is so haunting….”If I leave here tomorrow would you still remember me”? Yessir, yes, you will be remembered. Here we are almost 50 years later and still diggin’ on your music. 💜✌️🎶🌏
The band that day was Gary Rossington. Lead Slide guitar - Drk hair Allen Collins. Lead guitar - Blond hair Steve Gaines lead guitar. -shorter hair Leon Wilkeson. Bass Artimus Pyle. Drums Billy Powell Keyboards Ronnie Van Zand. Vocals The concert series held at the Oakland Coliseum during the 70s was called “Day on the Green “. I personally went to over a 1/2 dozen of those all day in the hot sun without much shade shows as a teenager., but not this particular one.
Ace, that was a really fun reaction, and that was the music of my youth. But anyway what a great way to inaugurate your second channel. I subscribed. I'm in.
Gary Rossington played the slide guitar at the beginning, and Allen Collins shredding the last 5 minutes of the song. Allen wrote that solo part of the song at 18. Of course, Steve Gaines on guitar, Leon Wilkeson on bass, Billy Powell on the piano, and Ronnie Van Zant on lead vocals. RIP To all these Skynyrd boys. Thanks for the reaction. Rush live, it's called Best Intro Ever/The Spirit of Radio and it is Phenomenal.
You also get to see the personalities of each member of the band! I'm glad you chose this as your first live performance, now you need to do some of The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again" at Shepperton or "Baba O'Riley" also at Shepperton! Peter Frampton on the Midnight Special "Do You Feel Like We Do"! Charlie Daniels Band "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" live! These are just a few to get you started, I'm sure other people will have other suggestions! Isn't it great watching the crowd being involved!
Great reaction ! Remember the people at the concert was and is probably one of the only times you got to see and hear your idol rock stars, as they were only on the radio , never on TV , no internet or you tube, back then
"What is this"? This was the 1970's, in a nutshell video. I was there and this was it. The tans, the pot, the sun, the bikinis, the bands that really rocked, the FUN FUN FUN!!!
7:19 “You can’t get any higher than this.” 🤪 I ❤ Free Bird reactions‼️🤣 Now you gotta experience compare/contrast the Knebworth concert. “Stay off The Tongue.” 👅
Congratulations on this new channel I am new subscriber 71, funny that's almost the same number I was on your first channel, I think I was 76th or something there! Best of luck to you once again Ace!
I keep hearing the question about what the difference is between music of 70s and 80s compared to today. It's the connection between the bands and the fans. With Taylor Swift or Pearl Jam being exceptions, how many bands today can pull 100,000+ people together?
Great reaction. You wanna see another wild guitar performance? REO Speedwagon. Golden Country -live from "you get what you play for " album. Video is amazing
I was there in Oakland, and it was as epic as it appears! The memories remain as we had no cameras, cell phones, obviously, sunscreen. Fun, sun, and music! Very carefree time.
A great reaction to a LEGENDARY performance. Skynyrd studio work is truly Amazing. Skynyrd live goes to Divinity!!! "That guitar playing is to the roof!" The second tyou said that I started laughing, Hard! Nah, as you saw, that was the light & entrancing work. The roof is about to be demolished. If you'd like another Skynyrd live, check out their performance of, You got that right, 7/13/1977 - convention hall (official). Yet more divinity. I hope everyone is having a great week & much love to everyone from here in the UK Hope everyone is having a
How does it feel to know that is how your Grand ma and Grand Pa used to party! LOL, I was part of this music culture and love it. All of those people are now in their late 60's. 🙂
Live, Heart playing Stairway to Heaven. Honorary guests of Led Zeplin! Obama and Micheal was there, Jake Black, to name a few! Also, Prince on My Guitar Gently Weeps! A Beatles song rendition at the Rock and Roll, Hall of Fame!
Thanks for a trip down memory lane. We traveled there from Arizona. Only other time we left the state for a concert was Jethro Tull when they performed in Tampa Florida. Not far from Lynyrd Skynyrd's home town. 🤠🌄🐂
True, for the most part, but in this case it was Kathy Johns who asked Allen "If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me" during an argument when they were dating in high school. They were married in 1970 and had 2 daughters. Kathy died in 1980 while pregnant with their third child.
Billy Powell didn't join the group until well after the studio version had been released. It became an entirely new song with his addition. I still prefer their Knebworth 1976 performance tho, when Ronnie upset Mick Jagger!
I believe Billy joined in 1972; he plays on the original album track, though they surely let him run with it more, live. Ed King posted somewhere that Billy played all the way through every track; the places the keyboards drop out in the recordings...they faded them out in the mix. :-)
Strongly recommend an even longer guitar solo with unbelievable riffs that you don't hear in the Oakland Coliseum performance: LS's live show at the Knebworth music festival in England in 1976. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l4PzuG5exyM.html
Thanks for this! But what is the reason for having a 2nd channel (I see many creators doing this)? Is there some kind of monetary gain? I don't get it.
