It’s amazing that three lead guitars would never “step on each others toes”, mix was always perfect
@kathyrais574
@kathyrais574 2 года назад
And from all I have heard & read, there were no hard feelings when it came to playing leads. Allen & Gary basically learned to play at same time, taught each other before they were in band together, that's one reason they play off each other so well. Ironically, when Allen 1st started playing, he wanted to play rhythm guitar, not lead. Ed was great as well. They all did their thing & never stepped on toes, whatever was best for the band's sound. Then Steve came along, just as good IMO as Ed but he just didn't get the time to prove himself to the masses but he would have been huge. He sounded diff than Ed & brought vitality back to Gary & Allen. Everything was fresh again. He could also sing & write so triple threat. G & A were so happy when Steve joined, they went though songs, we did them as far as who would play what. It had been just the 2 of them after Ed left them high & dry so they were used to doin it all but they knew Skynyrd was it's best with the 3 guitar army & best 3 guitar army ever iMO. Love these guys
@dougpeterman9467

@@kathyrais574 Then you throw Steve Gains into the mix, and it's a complete tech nightmare. Gains was so far advanced except for Allen Collins, but they got along very well, as they saw a future for the band.

This video is a national treasure. This is Skynyrd at their peak. even though it is b&w we are lucky to have this, and the audio is actually decent. Thank you Bill Graham for giving us this amazing look into the past... Kids this is what a real rock n roll band looks like. Americana at its finest. Great music. I could watch this all night. No doubt about it. Ronnie Van zant is such an incredible singer/songwriter... The whole band is tight, Steve Gaines is an absolute monster on guitar. Such an arsenal of top notch musicians. A complete joy to watch. Watch it about 5 times. Then tell me if you don't agree with every word I said 10/10.

I agree with you there son. Rossington played about all the memorable guitar licks and Collins would come in and play unmatchable 10 minute solos! I can't separate them in my mind...they play off each other like they're one. Like Jimmy Page with 4 hands lol. When I share my list of top guitarists, I always list Rossington/Collins as one. You can't have one without the other imo. Steve Gaines is great, but he's no Ed King. There's more to playing with Skynyrd than speed. He would have learned though, he just needed to be "Skynyrdized" a little more.

I'm 60 and I never got to see them live and I've been a fan since they came out but I did get to meet Rodger Daltrey and John Entwistle right before they toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1974 I think it was pretty cool my buddy and I just walking around Fresh Pond in Cambridge Massachusetts I guess Rodger Daltrey owns a home in Belmont Mass and me and my buddy carry who's actually a taking lessons to play piano back then he was only like 13 I was like 14 and I was just beginning to learn how to play the drums f****** how ironic you see these two brand new 12 gear bikes and we have never seen a 12 gear spocket on a 10-speed before I s*** you not that was something else in the ironic thing was that we didn't know who the who were we have no clue at the time were just kids I personally knew of traffic and Emerson Lake and Palmer and Aerosmith's I know who cream was actually had all these albums a bunch of other bands but I wasn't familiar with Lynyrd Skynyrd or the who yet you know we didn't know who Lynyrd Skynyrd was, we didn't know who the who was we hung out with them for an hour or two shooting the s*** and I think the reason they were so friendly to us and hang out with us like that is because we didn't know who they were so they weren't you know we weren't being fan fools you know pretty neat small world sometimes im teaching myself to play guitar I decided after all these years when I should have done it earlier but I'm not doing too bad I'v only been doing it like 8 months and I can already play that lead intro to the breeze which I'm very impressed by myself being able to do that it's such a short time and a bunch of other stuff but that's that's one of my favorite accomplishments on the guitar it's a lot of work but it's worth it never too late to learn how to play an instrument but it is time consuming and it's worth it I'm having a lot of fun after playing drums for years and being around other musicians and around its eyes all the time I learned a few things House of the Rising Sun couple scales but I never pursued it once in a while I pick up someone's guitar and poke on it. We got any good so I decided in on my old age I was going to teach myself to play it was a good idea I just wish I did it sooner
