@@Catherine-si5zk - Neil Young, released a song called "Southern Man" which was being rude about people from the American southern states including where Skynrd were from, saying they were all basically uneducated ignorant bigoted rednecks down there. Lynyrd Sk, took offense to this and decided to write a counter song , celebrating places like Alabama in a positive light, basically to answer him back and put him down too (a litttle bit) in the process. - Ironically their retort and response (ie this song, Sweet Home A') which was basically them thumbing their nose at him became probably more well known and even more popular than his "Southern Man" which sparked the whole thing off in the first place.
Not just the greatest southern rock band of all time but the greatest band of all time. I love this band so much. Its music gets me through hard times every day and I am so grateful for the current members for keeping the music alive! Ignore the hate, and know everyone loves you!!! 🙏❤️ RIP to all those who have passed, they will forever live on in our hearts. I pray that this bands legacy lives on forever.
Once went back to my rental Mustang convertible in the car lot at Kennedy Space Centre. It was dusk, and as a line of pelicans flew over and the roof went down, the radio came on. The song that came on was Sweet Home Alabama. A perfect moment in life that will stay with me until the day I die.
Just isn't Skynyrd without Ronnie. This off time, out of key performance does nothing for me. Actually now that I think about it. This isn't Skynyrd at all, regardless of any blood ties up on stage there. RIP Ronnie Van Zant
Listen I've loved Lynyrd Skynyrd since I was 11-12 years old I'm 60 we all know there's no original members in the band unless you count Rickey Medlocke because he was a drummer for them.. Johnny Van Zant is Keeping his Brother Ronnie Van Zant's Music Alive I'm Sorry but I'm fine with it... The Best Band in the Land!
@@J.e.n.n.yO2 Well they made at least 3 really good Albums with Johnny Van Zant as the lead singer and I've acknowledged that NOBODY can replace Ronnie Van Zant.... Check Out God and Guns Last of the Dying Breed and Vicious Cycle....
Missing LS, this is bittersweet. A fantastic tribute and one of my all time favorite songs. Too bad it’s wasted on a backward, ignorant racist government run state that has a war on women and education. I hope the people of Alabama have a heart. 💜
@@Catherine-si5zkAre you SURE you wrote your question under the correct video (or comment)? I didn’t read any mention about it being related to Neil Young - only that it’s 50 yrs old.
Just saw you guys last night in Concord with ZZ Top! 🥰 I loved the show! I was down front in the middle, 7 rows back! I also saw you decades ago at the Day on the Green in Oakland. The Free Bird video from that day brings back such magical memories. I'm down in the front of that one! I can pick myself out of the video! Thanks for the music and being a big part of the soundtrack to my life! I'm really glad I made it to the show last night! 😊
WOW 🤩! I’m 70ish and haven’t heard this 👍 song since it was popular years ago, when I was a LOT younger - till today that is. IDK if it’s that my ‘taste’ in music has changed, or maybe I just never paid much attention to it then. But imho, THIS is one terrific 👏 performance of another great ‘old’ song, of many, that’s withstood the test of time!
Iight add I find the stars and string offensive. I don't feel patriotic towards USA. Maybe some Republican administration can improve things and I would feel different.
Yea, the original singer Ronnie Van Zant died in the plane crash in 1977 and all of the other original band members are gone now too. Ronnie's brother took over the band though and they've still been around for a while
Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but since Gary wanted the band to go on and keep the music and the name alive, I have no problem with Skynyrd at all!! I have never missed a Skynyrd concert, and I’m in my 60’s, so I’ve seen every line up, including the great Ronnie Van Zant. Johnny has been singing for many, many years, and he’s fantastic. I just wish they would play some of the music they’ve made with Johnny. A lot of great songs and albums. Keep coming Skynyrd. You are and always will be my favorite band of all time!!!
My wife bought us tickets & we saw them in April at Little Rock, Arkansas & they rocked the arena. We would gladly pay to see them again. I was listening to Skynyrd in the 70's & I love em' now more than ever. Love Skynyrd Nation.
@@donnyblondy8506 Your right & I understand BUT it runs in the family & the band sounds really good. JVZ is carrying on for his brother & they still sing those same Skynyrd hits. It was still awesome.
I feel the same way. Want to see them keeping the memories alive. Also, In my opinion, think about it folks, everyone who joins is usually a good ol boy like the original Florida boys, a good friend and a part of the Skynard family, and Ricky was an original, and as long as he and of course, the closest and best thing we will see as the front man, Ronnie's little brother Johnny, whom I think is as down to earth as a celebrity could be.
very lucky to see Ronnie and Allen as a young teen. Long Island southern rock at its finest with CDB, MTB, Outlaws and Skynyrd. The old Commack arena was a stomping ground for southern rock. held 5,000, no AC crazy stuff. they demolished it and today a shopping center with target sits. 1975-1982 peek of southern rock.
I started to listen the music of LS in the late 80' s , when i' ve discovered 2 songs in a movie . I' m talking about " Simple Man " and " Call Me The Breeze " . So , what is this ? Who are they ? A new band ? I was so happy to know about That Band , because i was just a teenager . Today , i' m 50 old and i still happy to see Johnny , Ricky and Dale keeping the legacy , The Dream Alive , over the years . Big Love from Italy . ❤
Great band, after the loss of Gary Rossington they are a tribute band for sure. Ronnie left his baby brother Johnny a nice job with a nice lifestyle as well as a lucrative provision. Artimus, former drummer of Skynard has an excellent tribute band.
Do you know how many bands out there today that have no original member, but still use the name and sing the same songs?? There are a few. Investigate.
@@tommeredith7462 not ranting, BP great, not stroking out. Just saying. To name a few, you got Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Judas Priest, Gwar, Pantera, Kansas……and quite a few more.
The best southern rock band to ever exist, I've been a Skynyrd fan since I can remember I'm going on 62 and the music is always amazing and I never get tired of FreeBird. 🤙🇺🇸👍
Please stop advertising these guys as Lynrd Skynrd! They are NOT. They use the name and sing the songs.. They didn't write one verse!, that was mainly Ronnie VZ, he was the heart & soul of LS.. and on that fateful day, 10/20/77 it ended. Those guys paid there dues for years to turn LS into what it was, these wannabes could never fill those guys shoes, ever...
