It's nice to know there are other people out there who really "get" how unbelievably cool this stuff is. This is basically everything rock n roll is supposed to be about.
Rest in peace Gary Rossington who passed on 3/5/2023. No music coming out these days come close to this type of instrument and vocal mastery. All three guitarists were heavy, heavy hitters.
I'm sure Artimus still plays his instrument as well as Gary plays his. Especially considering that Gary broke both arms, legs, wrists, and ankles, as well as his pelvis in the plane crash that Artimus walked away from.
Allen Collins was born to rock. He's got the look, the chops, the soul. I sat down and played these songs again, last time was in the 80s. I forgotten how good these guitarists were. You don't hear anybody playing like this anymore, it's just fantastic!
@@oranstelly5393 we really are in a fight for the soul of this country. It’s too bad that some of the worst people on earth are in our government. If I had my way they would all be fired from top to bottom just to be safe and replaced by America first people. I know that’s probably far fetched but at this point it’s the only way to get those that are obviously bad and those that are possibly paid opposition to the duds like Schiff and Biden. I jus had this conversation with a buddy of mine who’s a lot more optimistic than I am. They imbedded themselves in our schools, businesses, city councils, District Attorneys and on and on all the way to the top. But I do have hope that President Trump could turn this around on a dime. But will he get there? It’s hard to say because he’s up against the darkest forces this world has ever known. I believe the anti christ is involved too. But let’s not go there!
Yep Allen was a super star for sure. Watching him just kill it live on Freebird is extraordinary. Knowing what all he went through after the plane crash and maybe even before makes me glad to know he was able to experience what he did his life was cut so short like the rest of the band mates
When they took the stage, Ronnie in barefeet and opened with Workin for the MCA with the force of a freight train who jumped the tracks . I've seen Skynyrd many times before the crash and did shots of Jack one night at the Capitol Theater in Passiac New Jersey with Ronnie .I've seen them many more times after the crash as well , even last years tour with the Doobies. For those who never seen the Skynyrd of old , you just might of missed the greatest rock n' roll band ever to grace a stage .
I was lucky to see them three, or four times before and three, or four after!! I can still see Ronnie, dedicating Free Bird, to Duane and Berry. I can also see Allen dedicating Free Bird to Ronnie and then playing it as an instrumental. Old, but lucky.
seen the on the Hunt tour. gimme back my bullets. and One more from the Road.. The Outlaws and MollyHatchet joined Skynyrd on stage for sweethome Alabama
His playing is tight af, any drummer would have their work cutout holding the rythm down for 3 lead guitarists at once. And Artimus was the solid backbone of this band.
Living 70 miles from them I got to watch their rise to fame. Started with playing back up for big headliners until they were the headliners! Just awesome. I love their live stuff!
I attended two of the three shows at the Fox theater in Atlanta, where one more from the road was recorded. The similarities between the knobworth and Fox theatre performances is uncanny,,!
been listening to these guys for 50 years. just turned 61 and still enjoy skynyrd.it NEVER gets old.was gary rossington born with a guitar in his hands. makes it look so easy.love rossington's style.
Never will there be a band like the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. I consider Steve and Artimus to be in the original band too. Anyone who played with Ronnie Van Zant was an original member in my book. Because that sound was never heard again correctly after he died. I remember the 79 concert and that was incredible but everyone knew who was missing and that why people in that audience cried.
@@robert.m4676I hear ya. But just like our loved ones die around us the only way the band could carrion would be with Johnny and he gave millions of people so much joy by carrying on the torch even though it wasn't Ronnie, like myself. Unless your Jesus and can resurrect the dead like with Lazarus this was our only option. I saw Skynyrd with Johnny singing in the early 90s in Toronto at Canada's Wonderland opening up with MCA and they still had Billy Powell Gary rossington and Ed King and it was freaking awesome! Ronnie's wife used to have this rule that if there wasn't three original Skynyrd members than the band couldn't go on but that went to hell because now there's none and they're still touring. The closest thing to original member would be Artimus Pyle and Ronnie's exwife and him are absolute odds she can't stand him
The best band of all time. Untouchable, nobody has come close in my lifetime and i listened to them in the 70s. Been gone almost 35 years and still the best. They just had that greatness about them, cant explain it, but no other band has ever got to me like RVZ and Original Skynyrd.
Homey NO its 45 years NOW..i was 2 when the plane crshed and LOVE LOVE LOVE finding out info about them from them from old documentrys and absorbing info from fans FROM that time and new ones...there just what u call THE GREAT .
What most people don't know is Steve Gaines and Ed King were both born on the same day of the same year ... what are the chances of that .. Steve Gaines was meant to play with them after Ed King , those were some tough shoes to fill ... and Steve did a brilliant job . I was fortunate I got to see them about three months later, on Nov 5th 1976 at the Flint IMA auditorium on the ssme ..one more from the road tour . It was awesome, my dad took me I was only 13 years old, I went with him and my two uncles
They were considered the quintessential southern rock band, but somehow transcended the whole southern rock thing. When you saw them live, you knew you really saw something special. There was just nothing else like them.
Don't even think they reached their peak yet at this time! Were getting better & more fine tuned each time. Tragic story line for sure. Artimus Pyle is an excellent drummer also!!!
There is one band as good as Skynyrd live & that is a band Skynyrd supported in 1973 & that's the band that unfortunately introduced Skynyrd to the demon drink in excess, that band is the mighty Who.
I saw all the great bands of the 70's, live. And Skynyrd was the saltiest, hands down. Real men, real guitar playing, real rhythm section, real front man.
The difference between these guys and other performers is that they had heart. I think the best characterization of Lynyrd Skynyrd is that they really had heart and its in all of their music. I really appreciate them for it.
They made music for music's sake instead of for Money's sake as they do today...then their clothes line, perfume line...then we have Mega Celebrities and can't name a single song they do.
They were better than most mainly because they practiced all the time. I have never seen anyone work harder at anything in my life. I'm from Jacksonville and remember the early days of Skynyrd getting started. They were a rough bunch from the westside and they were determined to make it.
RONNIE was cooler than Elvis and Lennon accordion to me AND the WHOLE World cried so DID i WHEN that bird was set FREE FROM Darren Taylor s chapter one CD thats a song i wrote FOR my hero's mama lloves skynyrd on YOU TUBE do any y'all like my sonng?
They are still playing Rossington is the only one playing from the original band. Artimus Pyle the drummer is still alive but not playing. Ronnie ,Steve & his sister died in the plane crash in '77, the others have died since.
Jeff Hopson Seen over 300 shows since '72 and this band had a blast performing. And it showed. I saw them in 6/77 in Springfield, MA. on the "Street Survivors Tour". Foreigner opened for the first tour they ever did. General admission...$7.50 a ticket...and I was leaning on the stage. 50 feet from Ronnie....barefoot as always. They had to be kicked off the stage!! 3 lead guitarists trading riffs all night. Gary, Alan and Stevie. They were the "perfect storm" for live shows and I'll never forget it. Seen some EPIC shows too...but LYNYRD SKYNYRD was a huge part of my teens as were many great bands at the time. The plane went down less than 4 months after I saw them. Just a fucking shame man.
3 very talented guitar players on the same team. Why nobody uses this same formula is beyond me. Even though they played country rock honk they played it with a hard edge. RIP to those gone but not forgotten.
Ronnie was the man!!! He kept them country boys in line definitely the front MAN ... Rossington/Collins we're all that but never ever forget steave Gaines that dude so layed back but one hell of a guitarist just as good as rossington/Collins. how I wish that plane crash never happened we lost so so much from that Fu----g plane crash R.I.P Ronnie/cassey/steave gone but never ever forgotten we miss u guys Rock on Comrads Rock on/ I think Ronnie Steavie &Casey Gaines are up there in heaven hanging out & playing & singing for God&Jesus/ (God bless them) Visious Vic over & out R.I.P
I love skynryd...it shaped and formed my identity as I was growing up as did the allman brothers...love them both...and Allen Collins was the man on that firebird....gaines,Rossington,artimus,leon ,Billy Powell and last and certainly not least....mr.ronnie vanzant....take a bow...
I love how in most of their shows from the summer of '76 when they got Steve to the last concert in Greenville , they were able to do Workin for MCA again which was something they couldn't do since Ed King who wrote the song with Ronnie and made the awesome solo in the middle of the song after Billy's piano solo and then go straight into I ain't the one. That's straight up badass right there.
This version of the band was just getting started And they were great. So tragic and we'll never know how great they could have become. I will listen to this and only imagine. BEST SOUTHERN ROCK EVER #TIMELESS
They were the Bad Ass's of Rock and Roll in the 70's and they ruled...That time period was the best for everything music, lady's were fine as all hell..Halter tops and tight ass jeans and Skynard ruling the stage..Hell Yea!!!!
I saw them on July 5th 1976/ with Ronnie! The Hells Angels got into a fight with some Marines,Ronnie said if ya,LL don't stop fighting,I'm going to jump down there and kick some ass! Venue Groves Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC, Clay F
Awesome band and performance - I know because I was there in 1976, just 16 years old and only my 3rd gig - many followed. This was the opening number and it grabbed the crowd from the word go. I had gone to Knebworth to see Skynyrd and the Stones - my two favourite bands at the time and still are to this day. Lynyrd Skynyrd blew everyone off the stage that day - they were outrageously good and the sound quality was perfection. An incredible memory for me was the rendition of Free Bird on that sultry summers evening as the sun was setting - it was the highlight of the whole day and difficult to follow. I went on to see Skynyrd at the Rainbow Theatre the following year and they were equally good there too - sadly the plane crash deprived us of so much talent. I will never forget Knebworth 1976 that's for sure. All the bands ran late that day and the Stones didn't get on till about midnight so gig finished about 2am. My only thoughts then were "How the hell do I get home?!", but that was just secondary as I was on a high - I had witnessed rock history.
Seen them 10 times since 76 - THey are Americas band for sure. Alan and Steve were two of the best pure guitarists I ever saw. Alan was crazy but gifted.
The guitar assault was always great....my show was in Charlotte in 1974,I was eighteen and never have I seen a better band.Missed them every day since that crash. Cried for a week after.
What band had 3 superb players like them !!!!! They would wipe the floor with any band in their day and even today no one comes close to the kings!!! All of them special in their own way!!!!!
Here it is folks the best band of any decade there ever was in music and any decade in the future nobody could ever stand up to this band Only The Originals the band this day sucks but Lynyrd Skynyrd is and was and always will be the best of rock and roll southern rock and roll any kind of rock and roll you want to call it nobody compares not even close
The funny thing is they were the best band to play that entire show! No one could compare after this set. Three lead guitarists and Ronnie's badass stage presence, you kidding me. Artimis killing it on the skins!
100 percent spot on and i,m english and a stones fan , i just love the feel of MCA,it sounds current and yet its 30 odd years ago !!!! ...u tube skynard on the old grey whistle test
I seen Lynyrd Skynyrd 7 times before the plane crash, they were the best band I ever seen. I loved their music to this day even with the Skynyrd of today, but the original took everybody by storm.
