In this VladTV exclusive, music executive Lyor Cohen, who currently heads RU-vid Music and is the former CEO of Warner Music and president of Def Jam, shares his journey in the entertainment industry. Born in New York and raised in Los Angeles by Israeli parents, Cohen describes his early career in banking as miserable, leading him to organize concerts. His first big hit was a Run-D.M.C concert, followed by a less successful Houdini concert, which was a critical turning point in his career. Moving to New York, Cohen joined Russell Simmons' management company, Rush, just as Def Jam was starting. He served as road manager for acts like Run DMC and Beastie Boys. Moving along, Cohen detailed the many highlights of his career, which included running Def Jam, leading Warner Music, starting 300 Entertainment, and joining RU-vid. Check out the full interview above.

I don’t understand the American legal system. Ha ha ha. He’s doing business with people that are constantly talking about gangs and shooting and whores and pimps and drugs, and he doesn’t understand why they are in jail.
@wtfyomom

A real boss. This is what a real mover and shaker sounds like and looks like - cold, to the point, a player.

From the first 5 minutes or so. I can tell this guy was just born connected. My dad was this, my mom was this, I grew up like this. I was offered a job here, my friends asked me to do this. Etc...
@TheVBC
I definitely expected this interview to be over an hr.

VLAD WAS SCARED TO ASK LYOR HARD HITTING QUESTIONS!
@malherbe102
Vlad really tucked his tail in on this interview. Especially when it comes to the 360 deal
@airington202x7
Glad we're glad you got this one. Some deep indsutry dealing insight in this for those interested in the musc biz regardless of the general audiences perecption of Lyor whose still a legend for his contributions.
@NewYorksMostWanted
Vlad was too much of a fangirl to ask the hard questions when it comes to how infamously scummy Lyor was in the early business of hip hop.
