The wood tones are definitely warmer. The transparent lyre has the clearest sound of all, a perfect demonstration of the phrase "crystal clear". I can't hear on my PC how long the notes lasted but I take your word for it. Given the length of time, the sustain is impressive. Thanks for the comprehensive review.

Thank you very much for the video. After watching your video I just realized that I had "misunderstood" the acrylic lyre as a "cheaper quality instrument" before that as it looks like "plastic". I am amazed by the sound it produced after the comparison with the other 2 lyres and this is the sound that I love to hear.

You're welcome 😊 I recorded a few songs using the acrylic lyres recently. It helps to hear how instruments sound to appreciate them.

I have a few lyres, some strung one way, some the other. I'm right handed, but I don't see them as "left and right", just different. I can play them whichever way they're strung. Maybe I'm lyre-ambidextrous and didn't know it! 🙃

I'm glad you did this. It just confirmed what I want. I will not waiver on my choice. Do you have a comparison of the sound between a metal stringed lyre and the one restrung with nylon strings? How about making one together with a tune/song played between the two lyres. I actually hoped you also played a tune or song (any composed piece) in your comparison here between the 3 lyres.

Hi, Thank you for doing the comparison 💕 I’m new in playing lyre harp. Mine is now 16 strings and the arrangement is exactly like the Aklot. . So is it hard to play the backward lyre harp? I mean the strings arrangement like the clear one. . And is it worth to buy the clear one? Because i have ever bought a kalimba using same material as the clear harp and the sound was so disappointing on the higher notes 🙈 thank you before ☺️🙏🏻

I don't find either of the string orientation hard. I prefer the orientation that the clear one has because I also play the harp and like to add rolled chords to songs I play which is difficult to do with the opposite direction. My favorite lyre is still my 19 String Wood Cega. The clear lyre I'm impressed by it because it is better than what I expected but there are a few strings that are plinky and I have to pay attention to how I pluck it. I'm not sure if this is a default on my lyre as a couple of my friends that purchased it don't have the same issue.

I feel like the Cega lyres are the only ones that have the high notes on the left. Do you recommend that? I have a little bit of keyboard experience and the reversed order of the strings confuses me a bit.
@learningthelyreharp
@learningthelyreharp 2 года назад
Most of the 19 strings and up are the same orientation. It's really a matter of preference and the style of playing that you are going to use. For finger picking and strumming styles the low notes close to body is fine, but if you are going to use the harp plucking or gliding method the opposite way is more ideal because of the natural flow of hands. If you put your palms up together like a praying position and then pull them and close the fingers gently towards the palms of your hands while pulling slowly towards you that is the natural position for harp and glide method and just like when you build a chord with your left hand as accompaniment in the piano with the root chord played by your pinky finger going up the notes, up the scale to do arpeggios, the logic is the same... you are going up the keyboard from the root note up. This orientation allows you to play arpeggios smoothly as well as roll the chords much easier than if it is the other way around.

Hi Sharon! I was planning to buy a lyre harp and happens to see your uploads. I was wondering what type of lyre harp would you recommend for me since I have small hands. I can play a bit of keyboards and accordion though but when I was younger, I stopped learning to play the guitar because it's hard for me to reach the other chords. I have learned from videos that Aklot Deer Lyre Harps has smaller spacing between strings. Do you think it will suit my small hands and my other music background?Your opinion matters to me. Thank you.
@learningthelyreharp
@learningthelyreharp 2 года назад
Hi Coleen! So glad to meet you. I play accordion and piano as well. I also have small hands and part of the reason I didn't continue learning guitar. Bar chords almost made me cry, lol. With three lyres it's completely different from playing guitars and the size of hands don't matter much at all. What does matter is the method you want to play. I love my Aklot deer lyre because its the best one for keeping in tune. The spacing on these are very tight and it makes it hard to play using plucking technique. It's okay for glide technique and finger picking. My favorite lyres are my 19 strings. It has enough strings for most of the songs I want to play. I do not recommend the Molin lyre I have not had much luck with mine and I've heard others have same issues as well. Keep in mind also that there is a difference in string orientation. The 19 strings and higher are generally strung like harps. I prefer this style but you may prefer the opposite way.

@@learningthelyreharp Thank you Sharon for such a quick response. I might as well go for another because I think I want to use the plucking technique in playing. Any suggestion or alternatives I may consider in buying my first lyre harp? Quality and with reasonable price.
@learningthelyreharp
@learningthelyreharp 2 года назад
@@coleenilagan6173 Most of the modern lyres are mass produced from China so quality can be hit or missed. Always buy from a reputable place where exchanges and returns are processed easily. For us in Canada Amazon is great because it's easy to exchange/return when products are not as expected. Read the reviews and ratings. What are the ratios. Are they mostly good and most people happy with their purchase? Watch several players and see what instruments they play. If they are happy with their instruments and they perform well for them, chances are they will be good for others as well. Product reviews are great to watch but if they don't actually play the instrument then, it doesn't really say much about it other than general condition and first hand impression. You can also join a group and ask the members what they think or what instrument they play and what they like/don't like about them. Hope this helps :)
