Madlib and other Hip Hop producers, they are brilliant, but I wish there were comments about who created this piece, (Walt Barr), great Jazz Fusion guitarist.
I agree, sampling is cool but the dudes who write these melodies and harmonies deserve all the props! I always thought the Rhodes piano was the star of the show on this piece but the acoustic guitar is pretty slick too!
Thank you for doing this. I agree with you, being very much into sampling myself, I always feel homage needs to be paid to the original creators and musicians on the session.
I heard crime pays first and came here, made me tear up how beautiful music is and especially when you discover how talented producers are when they harness the sample just right and get that sweet spot.

Crime pays, nigga, crime pays Choppin up this change with cocaine in my microwave Made it through my whole month with my lights out, I seen brighter days Watch this shit get knee high, boy, you live and you die by this game
Before madlib sampled this beautiful ass song it was under $20 i believe, then scalpers saw that madlib flipped it and decided to raise the price up on discogs.
Since you said it, i have to say that when bandana came out I spun it soo much, moved me off of Fly Lo's Flamagra album which has to be in my top 25 albums of all time. I was really diggin the vibe and really got into Freddie's flow and cadence. I picked up the beat album vinyl a coupleo weeks back and its not the rap that has the hooks its the freaking beats@@@!!! Madlib is for real my favorite producer since dilla
My dad had so much music in our basement, back in Chi-town during the 70’s. Now, I hear a lot of the groups he had in the samples today: Mandrill, Bob James, Ahmad Jamal, Donald Byrd….and the list goes on. Also, when my dad played an album….there was no skipping songs…the entire album played. In my humble opinion, I believe that’s how most of the producers like Q Tip, Pete Rock, Alchemist, Black Milk, Large Pro, Premier, etc have such a keen ear and awareness for the songs because they grew up listening to the songs they are sampling 🤔
Thanks so much for posting this beautiful piece of music. It's now one of my favorite songs. Listening to it, I can honestly say that it makes me believe that it's taking me on a journey somewhere, just as it does anyone who enjoys it just as much.
I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I love Madlib and his works. You can't improve a beautiful piece by sampling a few seconds. The original is a jazzfusion piece, the Madlib / Gibbs one is a hiphop song
Such a disgrace, this is a masterpiece, and this is only my point of view, but the original it’s always better. this song just take you to another place
Interessante punto di vista, ma ancora una volta mi spiace constatare che i commenti sono riferiti al sample, e non al brano originale o al suo autore. Ma del resto RU-vid stesso cita come autori Gibbs e Madlib e non Walt Barr, per cui...
