I'm Ngati Porou too. But as Kiwis in general, 'Luncheon Sausage' (Devon) sandwiches are like typical kids lunch foods xD. Also, its a Maori thing to slap anything possible between two pieces of bread lmao.

South African here, totally love the Mãori people and culture and I don't think I even know 5% of their culture. They are such easy going people, who embrace who they are and they represent their people so beautifully.

I feel I actually perfected the pie sandwich many years ago when I worked as a baker. One mince and cheese pie, straight out of the oven, pop it into a croissant, also straight out of the oven, with butter. Pure heart attack material...

Never had the chance to eat Salted Plum but am sure I would enjoy it. Maybe its a generation thing but I grew up eating everything else except for the noodles (they weren't a thing back then. I have no drama for her preference being the curried stew and dumplings as I use to enjoy it as well but, when you haven't had a boil up in ages yeah that would be my choice but with puha (not the thistle type) but you can't go wrong with watercress or cabbage. Love these reactions.

As Hispanics, we eat the salted plum with an orange you submerge the plum in the middle of a half cut orange and enjoy so good!

Can you explain this more please? Do you eat the orange like your would eat a grapefruit; with a spoon? Or do you eat peeled sections of the orange and take bites of the plum in between? It sounds delicious.

as a maori who grew up most of their life in aus, i loved this. luncheon and tomato sauce sandwiches were a staple, noodles straight out the packet was the most exciting school lunch lol. big love to our first nations cousins here in aus, or as we say in te reo māori, he mihi nunui ki ngā iwi moemoeā, ngā iwi taketake o tēnei whenua ❤️

HEY! Excuse my ignorance, but I'm from Spain and I'm not really close to Aussie culture and historical background. Could you guy explain to me the difference between Maori and First Nations Aussies? I'm not really sure that I can correctly tell what they mean. Thank you so much!! Definitely grateful to get to know such important things.

Maori's are native to New Zealand, whereas First Nation Aussies are native to Australia as far as I know :)

They are different ethnic groups. The Maori are native to New Zealand, whereas the First Nations Australians are indigenous to, well, Australia. A similar comparison, for example, would be something like Italians and Spaniards.

Definitely enjoyed or had all of the kai our Māori have shown however have also had the same as our aboriginal whānau have shown like the curry, the luncheon & sauce sammy. I also personally don't like sauce with my boil up, next day is always the best & is my fave so I'll sit there for ages eating boil up. Having it with fried bread, rewana or takekau bread 🤤

luncheon meat sandwich is a staple diet when you are on community work/ service in NZ, when you have been a bad person and have to work for the government to pay back fines because you are too poor to pay them. the funny thing is you get the meal free because it is so cra*p. pie sandwiches are a tier level up, definitely, you don't get pastry flakes everywhere and much easier to hold without mince dripping all over and burning yourself.

@@joshhowe3477 what hate? i done community work/service myself for a year (thankfully it was only on a saturday) and all we EVER got to eat was 2 pieces of luncheon meat and 4 slices of bread lol, so somebody always fired up the gas burner and pan with a little margerine and we all had 2 toasted luncheon meat sandwiches, nobody was allowed to bring their own food it was provided free.
