M-Audio is my favorite brand for keyboard controllers. I've always preferred their semi-weighted keys over other brands' hollow, synth-like keys. This new Hammer88 must be a dream to play. Looking forward to more great videos on this great keyboard controller and more!

I remember seeing Charlie Puth play an M-Audio controller in his studio and I thought, if it’s good enough for him it’s good enough for me! lol Anyway, yes the more I play the Hammer 88 Pro the more I fall in love with the action!

Ooh, that looks incredible! Thanks to your earlier videos though, I bought the Oxygen Pro 61 and I am delighted with it. As it is slightly lower (in terms of the height dimension) than the 49 MK IV, I was able to raise the keyboard shelf on my desk by one notch, which is now more comfortable to sit at. I think it will be more than enough for me for quite a while as I would probably need a new desk for the 88Pro! Best of luck with yours - it's lovely to see your excitement for such a quality item. :-)

The M-Audio looks nice...price is good...but....I'm still leaning toward the Arturia Keylab 88 mkii due to it having a great sound library (Audio Lab V), CV in & out for synth control, for an extra $100. Maybe I'm missing something. ;)

Great review and video. I am personally a fan of the minimalist design of the first one which I own. I needed the piano feel. It looks and feels like one.cI feel like if I needed the extra functions I would be safer with Arturia. But that's just me. I am sure it is a great keyboard.

Wow, this is like a dream coming true: A MIDI-controller keyboard with all that functionality plus a graded hammer action keyboard for us pianists. Two questions: I heard this board is compatible with all kinds of different DAWs - do you know if it it compatible with Cakewalk (by Bandlab) also? And how is the keybed/keys compared to Roland's FP-10/30/60?

Hey Thomas! It's exactly what I've been looking for to be the centerpiece for my new home studio. There isn't an out of the box preset for Cakewalk, but there is a Preset Editor to build your own custom presets and the DAW transport controls communicate via Macke/HUI messages so there's a good chance you could get it to work with Cakewalk. I'm not sure how it compares to the FP series, but if I get a chance to compare I'll make a video and throw it up!

Great video! I hope you buy everyone midi controller on the market and review them too haha. I have a question. How clicky are the buttons? I recently got a Komplete Kontrol M32 and I hate the buttons. They are very loud and hard, require too much pressure to press and make two sounds when pressed. One loud click going down and a small thud going up. Do the buttons on the Hammer do that too? Keep the videos coming!

Thanks!! Haha that would be awesome! The buttons are clicky, but I don’t find them annoying. They’re easy to press, but do give you a click going down and a click coming back up. Because the controller is so solid though, I feel like they aren’t unreasonable feeling.

Thanks! I’m not sure what company makes the action, but no, it doesn’t feel too heavy. Although I haven’t had a chance to compare side by side with other weighted keys, I’d wager to say it’s on the lighter side of the hammer action spectrum.

How does it compare to the Roland FP-30 in terms of key feel/weight? My Roland FP-30 keys are too heavy and have a slow "recoil", so I'm searching for lighter and faster keys right now.

Hey, thank you for this. You are doing it great❗ A question, please... In my home studio i have the M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro. To play in a show outside of my studio, i use MainStage, and i prepared a Concert on it, using the Keystation 88 Pro faders, buttons and knobs. Yesterday i bought the Hammer 88 Pro for my outside shows. It is a great instrunent, but i still cant have the faders act on the MainStage concert like it was easy and simple with my Keystation 88 Pro. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong? Thank you in advance😊 Mickey

Hmmm......... the Native Instruments S88 Mk2 would not be a better choice? A bit more expensive , but also more valuable. Great wishes Jürgen

I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a controller. If you are a big user of the KOMPLETE plugins from NI, the S88 may be a better choice. I'm in love with the Pro Tools DAW integration of the Hammer 88 Pro and Oxygen Pro line, so I'd go for the Hammer 88 Pro.

How does the feel of the action compared to something like the Komplete Kontrol S88? Is it heavier then say a digital piano?

Hey Joseph, I've never played the S88, but I can say the action feels lighter than the Korg SV-1 I had. I'll be doing some additional comparisons int he near future, so hopefully I can speak better about this then.

Would this be able to plug into like just a 1/4 inch cord or headphone jack?

The controller itself has no audio interface, so there's no headphone of "audio" output jacks on it. You would plug your headphones into the computer (or audio interface if that's what you're using). Hope this helps!
